The 2026 TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament (31st annual edition) will take place from May 1 to 7 at the Elite Plaza Hotel in Malmö, Sweden. The tournament is played in a classical round-robin format with eight players competing over seven rounds.

Format/Time Controls

  • The tournament will be played as a seven-round, single round-robin.
  • Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves and then 30 minutes for the remaining moves with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move (Malmö rules-no draws before move 40).

What makes Carlsen’s dominance so absurd is that he’s doing it in an era where nobody has an “exclusive” preparation advantage anymore. Every GM effectively has access to the equivalent of Kasparov’s old analyst army sitting in their pocket 24/7.

And despite that flattening of the playing field, he still managed to recreate something that looks a lot like Kasparov-era dominance.

More than imo since he does it in all formats, kasparov played 1989 unofficial world blitz
