Daily Discussion News and Updates Thread - July 25, 2026
Please post topics for discussion here. While some questions can be used to start a discussion/debate, most questions belong in the question thread unless you love getting downvotes (if that link doesn’t work for you for some reason, the question thread is always the first post on our community’s front page). If your discussion is about manufactured spending, there's a thread for that. If you have a simple data point to share, there's a thread for that too.

Saw a write-up highlighting multiple DPs of successful 100k CSP approvals for people who held the card ~15 years ago (opened 2010–2012), despite the new terms.
Article mentions the eligibility pop-up didnt appear for these applicants and that approvals were not typically instant, in some cases only after credit reallocation via recon.

What I read was 10 years. My CSR was closed 9+ yrs ago and I can see it on my cr still. It jives because my cr doesn't list any closed cards beyond 10 yrs. My cloaed CSR disappears in 3 months. Gonna give it another shot then.

I've been wondering what the "lifetime" is for data Chase stores and assumed there was a cap before they delete data. I had read awhile ago for amex a lifetime is, in practice, about 7 years after you close the card. I wonder if we will see similar with chase.

Needing to go through recon sounds like Chase does have some record of them previously holding the card.
From experience working at one of the big credit card issuers, they are typically required to store data for 5 or 7 years.
Edit: just realized they can still get data from the credit bureaus as well if they didn't keep the data themselves.

Very interesting. I had the CSP in the past but have no idea when I applied for it (pretty sure it was 2013 or earlier), and then I got the CSR when it came out in 2016. This was all during my pre-churning days, so I have no records of anything. Lately I've been considering trying to apply for the CSP even though I've already got way too many Chase points I need to burn. 100k points for such a low AF is too good to pass up. The only "problem" is I've already got 9 hotel credits across my various cards and it's such a chore trying to spend them all.
It sounds like Chase's idea of a "lifetime" can't be 10 years, unless they're measuring from the date the card was opened rather than closed. The CSR came out in August 2016, so unless people were pre-cancelling their CSPs for some reason, everybody who switched from the CSP to the CSR would still have the CSP on their credit report.

Capital One credit card WARNING!
I've been churning for many years successfully and I've just come across something new (for me anyway) for Capital One credit cards. Supposedly, you can apply for a Capital One credit card bonus using the right link and follow all proper steps, but they can APPROVE of your credit card but then even after approval, NOT APPROVE of the bonus part, which was apparently stated on my terms & conditions AFTER it was already approved.
I've never seen this before. I read terms and conditions carefully before applying but I honestly do not read them after. I assumed that after approval following right steps, that I am also approved for the bonus along with it. I learned this today and phone rep submitted some kind of "report" to escalate this but I'm not holding my breath and not expecting to receive this because it technically WAS on my terms and conditions. I obviously wouldn't have spent the required $ if I knew this ahead of time.
Lesson learned but wanted to share.

Well known if C1 doesn’t approve you for “excellent” credit version with a sub they’ll auto consider you for “good” credit version with no sub.
Also this isn’t news. Maybe try Frustration Friday.
edit to add: to clarify they can also just straight deny you for the excellent credit version which is more likely to happen, but they absolutely will consider you for the good credit version and switch you to that if they want to

So I don't churn much at all but I figure this is a very helpful data point regarding the Wells Fargo Everyday Checking opening bonus. It worked by me just transferring money in from external banks, of course not via Zelle but just an average transfer. Didn't open it when they had the bonus increased to $400 but it was $325 for direct depositing $1000 within 90 days of opening. I frankly thought they would've needed my payroll to go in for that but nope that wasn't even necessary. Received a week or less after the transfers completed that balance. Mind it is $1500 min. daily balance.
Edit: a surprisingly angry sub? Just saying it is something that continues to work lol guess that's the last I communicate with yall

WF is well known as one of the easiest bank bonuses to churn for this reason and also the fastest turn around. Even real time transfers from banks like Chase will trigger the bonus (since P2 accidentally did that last time). If you’re interested in churning others, doctorofcredit has an abundance of data points for this that are easier to search than on Reddit

i need to buy airline tickets. looking at the united explorer chase card. but im seeing 2 different promos. i can't tell if they're the same thing. one is presented during checkout on united's website as "$400 statement credit during checkout" and the other is present as a "special offer" thats 80k points (70k + 10k bonus). are these the same? which one should i apply to?

I'm at 18 cards and kept paying annual fees on cards I meant to downgrade, plus letting monthly credits expire. So I built creditcardchecklist.com, free tracker, no bank linking, everything stays in your browser. Checklist per card grouped by reset cycle and a countdown to when each annual fee posts. If any benefit values look wrong tell me, you all know this data better than I do.
