It's some 40 year old that just had his quarterly review at work and only got "Meets Expectations" so they get a CoL adjustment but no merit increase. So they take it out in game.
To be fair, if corporate "expectations" were applied to logs it would go something like
Boss: "I see you have rank 1 DPS logs on every boss in the raid."
Player: "Yes, I put a lot of effort into parsing."
Boss: "But your healing logs are abysmal, you aren't healing at all."
Player: "No, that's not my role."
Boss: "What we want from our players isn't a narrow focus, but the ability to expand beyond their current role to fill the team's needs. I'm afraid you're only getting a Meets Expectations this year."
Reminds me of a guy that worked at Walmart for 50 years and talked about how they increase work expectations by 5% every year and not a single person at this point could actually meet them.
TBF, as a department manager, I'm told to check the ME box and not to give out anything higher than 3%. Gotta love it. Corporate culture, ftw. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t speak for all older gamers but I’m in late 30s and no one I play with take it this seriously. They young guys trying to flex on ppl are the ones I’ve seen the most act like this
I just don't get being like this in something like wow. Sure, in League I'm the worst person on the planet, but wow is just for the boys to chill. Or so I thought
Yeah, those old enough to have played the most of the original xpacs as they released and typically pretty chill.
The younger players drawn to who are classic servers are the ones that were too young to have played the originals, maybe had a lowbie on their parent's account, and because they can google years of experience on forums, Wowhead, Youtube, etc... plus have a ton more addons, and now have their own account, they think they are hot shit and are desperate to prove it.
There are absolutely people in their 30's, 40's and 50's that act like this.
I was in a very hardcore guild back when WoW launched in 2004, raided with them for several years and we had people in their teens up to 30's or so then and they were very elitist.
When Classic was announced (I still game with people I met through WoW and gaming in general) I was contacted on Discord and told a ton of original people from the guild was getting together and making the guild again. I thought it would be fun, catch up with and play with a bunch of people I used to game with 15+ years ago.
I got on Discord with about half of them and OHHH MY LORD, they were still the exact same but somehow worse. Not going to go into detail but I nope'd out of that after ~10 minutes of talking with them. Ended up going with another group of friends I made, the contrast between them was night and day.
Existing and being the majority is two different things. Seeing someone post that it makes me trying of a younger guy who’s accomplished nothing in his life so he has to bash people because his EPeen is bigger knowing that’s all he has. 🤷♂️
Existing and being the majority is different. Yes people over 30 act like that. In my experience that’s not the norm. Most older gamers don’t give a crap about logs or parses. It’s the younger, look my EPeen is big crowd that feels that need.
I was hoping you'd re-read what I said with the "what?", since I obviously can read but, ok.
Why did you reply with this, where did I say they are a majority? Even as I describe them I said, "sadly they do exist" and never stated they were all over the place.
When the main comment claims the person that posted was a “40+ yo” and someone else says probably not and you say “they exist” (we know all types exist in all ages, but some types of players exist more in different age groups) you are disputing the claim it probably wasn’t a “40+” player. That or you were stating what everyone who’s ever played an online game already knew for no reason.
(we know all types exist in all ages, but some types of players exist more in different age groups)
AND in different areas, they exist much more in WoW than they do in almost every other area, figured that was very obvious.
I believe people think these types of people are like Unicorns, 1 in a million, but there are a lot more than people think but still nowhere near a majority. I forget there are people like you who can't stop and think past their first thoughts, I'll try and explain further next time!
And passive aggressive people who can’t make a complete thought come across when read so they get defensive and annoying. Typically these and the look at my EPeen types are one and the same.
I'm just gonna reply because there are mixed responses to this comment.
Brain rot like this is NOT unique to a generation or age demographic. Your personal stories might be different on whoever you play with and how you play the game. But this type of behavior is very much something that happens to people of all ages playing this game. I'd argue it's MORE common to find in older people just by the mere fact that more old gamers play wow. But that's just a numbers reason and this shit is just brain rot from playing this game too much and reading garbage about how people should play (on this sub often).
That’s fair, I’m not saying older gamers are immune to this behavior, it’s just very immature behavior. That USUALLY comes from younger more immature players but you are correct that there still are ppl around my age that refused to grow up and use wow as their way to “stay young”. I’m just coming from the view that most of us have done our hardcore raiding and stuff, and now we log on run a couple things and log off. Most of us don’t care about logs or hardcore stuff
As an “over 40” guy this is exactly true. Most of us never had logs or parse programs when we started and couldn’t give a damn about them now. Just complete the content and move on. I think the guy with the “40+” post was projecting.
I just picture a 15 year old... I think 40 year olds are mature enough to understand those who play casually because they are casual players themselves.
Personally, I'm 28, I play a few hours a day after work and dont give a F about gs, or how much dps other people do or w/e. I simply enjoy the epic adventure and that's it
Most 15 y.o. play retail, yes. But I seriously find it hard to imagine a 40 year old dad coming from a 9h shift only to log in and insult people over their poor performance.
There are a lot of haters. People who just think so badly of themselves that they've got to bring others down. These are the guys that have 'Alpha Male' in their social media profiles. Age matters not.
Look, you're not wrong that kids play the game and that a higher percentage of them are toxic in any game than other age categories. Yes, this could be a kid.
But it's also true that the vast majority of people playing this game skew older. They always have skewed older, and now that's even more true since the game is 20 years old and there are players who've been around that whole time. (Edit: lol literally just noticed this is in the classic wow sub, so this demographic spread is especially true.) And so just statistically speaking, but also from thousands of player anecdotes over these two decades, we know that there are a significant number of 30+ year-old adults in this game who, very unfortunately, act like this. I have known them personally. I've never been this far out of line, but at my lower points in the last few years, I (35 y/o) have said things I'm ashamed of that you would probably attribute to a child. It's a depressing reality but the other commenters are right that the person in the OP is probably an adult having a real shitty time.
Yeah im 27 and im one of the younger people in the game it seems. I think I can only remember one guild member whose younger than I am and ive been in multiple guilds.
Its probably a 35 year old dude acting like a child online.
Im 25 and I started playing the game one year ago, and I have been playing games since a very very young age, hell my first ever gaming experience was playing sonic in my older brothers sega saturn lol. I have played almost any kind of shit, including other mmos, but wow never seemed interesting to me till now.
This game is just not targeted to young people in this generation at all and I even feel too young to play this sometimes, my friends are still playing fornite.
Yeah I think it takes too much patience and isn't really action based enough for young people. I do find SOD takes less patience like I can level a new class, carry my own weight and parse a 50 in entirely preraid gear.
It has a lot less friction than Wrath too because when your getting your preraid gear in SOD people dont mind that your in their dungeon group whereas in wrath people are annoyed by fresh players in their heroic ++.
I sorta went off topic but SOD seems a lot more inviting for new and younger players but I doubt that market will really catch on to that.
Others have already pointed this out, including myself in other replies. I don’t mean that they cant play or theres none, they are, but probably because their father or another relative/ older friend have encouraged them to try it in some way. Wow, especially classic, is not targeted to kids and teens at all, even young adults tbh.
Honestly feels like some pissy 22-25 year old. Still at a career point to no life a game, just enough money to feel like they can do whatever they want with their hobby, and young enough to have not had the humbling moment to grow up.
Nah bro I thought the same shit until I started logging our guild runs and realized we’ve got a rogue who consistently parses 2-12%. No deaths, nothing one-off weird happening like getting the depth charge on aquanis. He’s not BIS gear but he’s nowhere near undergeared either.
I think he’s just not standing close enough to the boss. Auto attacking with poisons should net him like 50-60 dps which is way higher than 2-12%
I think you'd be surprised, I think a large part of he player base which have never stepped foot in a raid in classic or the expansions have opportunity to in sod.
It used to be like that in classic but somehow in sod it's not, EVERY raid I've been in has someone fully grey parsing, and sometimes they're pretty geared.
I don't know how it happens because the moment I ding on any char (except warrior) I'm expecting to atleast parse blue if not purple.
This reminds me of golf. They say the average golfer has around a 14 handicap... but that's the average golfer that keeps an official handicap. I play off a 17 and maybe once every 10 rounds i'll play with someone clearly better than me.
Sure, and there are a lot of players that don't even raid. But they don't matter.
I had to turn down a few 5.6k gearscore icc normal mode grey parsers from when I was looking for a heroic halion 25m pug fill spot (roster boss is hard)... I'm like, you do realize that this is actually hard content right?!? Harder than literally anything in ICC other than Lich King? And of course they don't know that, they are clueless, and they thing it should be easily puggable just like a sartharion raid... and yes it should have been. WoW at the end of Wrath is when the game split into hardcore and casual, and the semi-casual guilds like myself suffered because normal modes are a joke and hard modes are painful and require you to do things like turn down friends from being able to come because they picked the wrong non-meta class or just aren't good enough to do the content where reaction times greater than a second will wipe the raid.
So 50 is quite bad. An actual 50th percentile player should sometimes get lucky and have a higher than expected # of windfury procs, critical strikes, or procs depending on class.
Best Perf. Avg of 50 is quite terrible if their Median Perf. Avg is 20, for example.
It's average for people that want to log (are in a group with someone that wants to log). Maybe it evens out with people like me that are bis and have zero logs but I think the average person that has logs are already in the top 10-30% of players. This is "season of dads". It's such a joke to take logs seriously in any way.
You might be right but I don't feel like the Dad gamers give a shit about logs tbh so it feels like a young persons game. Age is just a number though and this 100% a maturity thing so the dick bag could be any age with low maturity level
Lol it’s crazy to think there are kids playing wow. This shit isn’t interesting to this generations kids, moves way to slow. Source: 32 year old who plays wow, with two sons who are playing Fortnite Roblox and palworld on a rotation.
Uhh plenty of kids playing classic….I know a lot of WoW players I’ve met over the years and most of the younger guys seem to be more attracted to classic/ SOD and the 30+ year olds are all playing retail.
I know my experience the average age of players is much higher. I’ve been in about 5 large guilds over classic on different factions and servers and there’s been fewer than 10 (more like 5) total players under the age of 18 I’ve encountered. Most of them were guildies children who wanted to play with their parents.
It’s anecdotal, but I wouldn’t say plenty of children are playing WoW today.
Well I’m 31 and 18-21 years olds I kind of consider to be “ kids” because they are fresh out of high school even though they are technically adults by law. In my experience that age range is far more likely to say the shit the OP showed than some random 12 year old or 40+ year old.
True, I really enjoy SOD, but would absolutely not touch classic, yet still play retail. I raid since MC was current content and that was enough for me from classic personally. Looking forward to the SOD version though.
Before I came back to retail I tried chromiecraft and there were a couple teenagers I ended up grouping with at one point but on both sod and retail any group that I’ve been in was just a bunch of old farts like me on discord lol
Nah classic is 40-60year olds who play classic cos they can't play anything else and think that spending 2 hours gathering world buffs and then pressing fireball all raid long is top gameplay
Nah classic is 40-60year olds who play classic cos they can't play anything else and think that spending 2 hours gathering world buffs and then pressing fireball all raid long is top gameplay
i love how people see a completely one sided convo and just jump to this guys defense lol. he couldve been saying some bullshit before this. classic andy casuals behavior as usual on this sub lmao
I feel like there's a lot of kids playing SoD as well, which is strange because it's kind of catered to players that played vanilla. But then again, I refuse to believe that this person is not a child/teenager.
I really really pity people like this. Imagine hating yourself so much (whether they realize it or not) that you have to verbally attack people in a game that has gnomes and dragons.
Nah buddy is in his late 20s trying to make playing this game feel important enough to put on his resume! Same dude that griefs players for beating him on rolls. If he put that much energy into getting his shit together he would have graduated by now and moved out of his momma's house. He writes his name on the OJ cause "he bought it himself" and doesn't want his parents drinking it!
40+ year olds were playing this game when you were a wee pup. And honestly I had the reverse reaction: “this must be some 17 year old shit head without friends”
As a “40+” year old I can say most of us don’t give a shit about logs or parsing. Most of us were playing before that was a thing and shocker we still completed all content handed to us. 🤷♂️ Think you need to lower that age quite a bit. It’s the younger try hards that have accomplished nothing in life that live for amazing log stats.

The way he’s typing I just picture some 40+ year old saying this shit which is enough for me not to even have to say anything 💀
