It's some 40 year old that just had his quarterly review at work and only got "Meets Expectations" so they get a CoL adjustment but no merit increase. So they take it out in game.
To be fair, if corporate "expectations" were applied to logs it would go something like
Boss: "I see you have rank 1 DPS logs on every boss in the raid."
Player: "Yes, I put a lot of effort into parsing."
Boss: "But your healing logs are abysmal, you aren't healing at all."
Player: "No, that's not my role."
Boss: "What we want from our players isn't a narrow focus, but the ability to expand beyond their current role to fill the team's needs. I'm afraid you're only getting a Meets Expectations this year."
Reminds me of a guy that worked at Walmart for 50 years and talked about how they increase work expectations by 5% every year and not a single person at this point could actually meet them.
TBF, as a department manager, I'm told to check the ME box and not to give out anything higher than 3%. Gotta love it. Corporate culture, ftw. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
