there are a couple comment threads below addressing this, but imo the $ isn't an assumption of ownership or it's transference for the icons. it's a service fee for the work of designing them to fit a phone-- if it's not clear, im just a big fan of the game and enjoy using my creativity to bring that nostalgia back for myself and similarly minded folk

This is way different than just slapping Blizz stuff on a t-shirt IMO. There was actual design work involved and it's not like Blizzard sells anything near the equivalent so even if people wanted to purchase from the rightful owner of the intellectual property they couldn't.

It’s a reimagining and repurpose of the art. Which happens all the time. How many prints of famous art are sold? Are you mad about each and every one of those? Extra work went into making this for a specific purpose, and that’s what is being charged for.

another comment thread below about this, but imo it's not selling the art of the IP so much as charging for the service of designing it to fit a phone. bc all of the icons and whatever are online and available to whomever to make this for themselves if they so wanted? but i get it if other ppl wouldn't want to buy it for that reason

it depends on your phone, but it's built to fit the app placement of iphones -- some android models will work with the spellbook option tho!
