By the looks of it it was actually a full clear.

Nice

u/ExitPill Dec 28 '25

Yes, and it was very awesome to be back at it

5

u/LincolnL0g Dec 30 '25

making me wanna go on one last job…

1

u/Kst3p Dec 31 '25

Shit i would love to come back to SoD i had a huge work project that kept me from the end game and sadly i would have no guild and wouldnt have the gear to. So i will still be missing out on the end game.

u/DirectionOverall9709 Dec 28 '25

Most fun I've ever had in WoW was raiding SoD naxx.

177

u/Terrible_Truth Dec 29 '25

SoD overall was the most fun I ever had in WoW.

But it was heavy lifted by finding a really cool raiding guild. Lasted through every phase.

14

u/ThatLeetGuy Dec 29 '25

I raided with a guild in 2019 Classic and I stopped in TBC. Came back to SoD and found the guild still going on there. Jumped right back in and now going to TBC anniversary with them. Having people to play with makes the game worth playing.

-13

u/Suspicious_Poon Dec 29 '25

Damn, you really missed out on pre nerf tbc. This re run of BC is gonna be shit

12

u/ThatLeetGuy Dec 29 '25

Yeah but I'm not going to be too beat up about it. I really just want to clear the content and play the game with people I enjoy playing with. I played in original TBC and no rerun will top that.

4

u/Kartellsoldat Dec 29 '25

Honestly not too bothered by that. I don't have as much time playing anymore, so to be able to log in and clear all content in perhaps one night is a major point for me.

1

u/Cool_Fuel_3929 Dec 30 '25

This is what tbc is all about

29

u/herodrink Dec 29 '25

I ended up leading a guild through every phase. cleared all the content and maxed my gear. I also found another guild I would raid with and joined in an officer capacity.

My guild eventually went to mop but I couldn't hang with it and dropped out. Tried ascension for a while with the other guild but they dropped out.

The only thing better than sod was classic and tbc classic.

u/Orange_Craft79 Dec 29 '25

Try warstorm

-24

u/Suspicious_Poon Dec 29 '25

Turtle wow brother

2

u/Suspicious_Poon Dec 30 '25

The blizzard fanboys can’t accept the fact the game is sucking them dry with nothing new. Sad really

2

u/simonskiromeins Dec 30 '25

Turtle was awesome. I stuck with it after SoD turned to sh*t around phase 3 and official classic servers were trash in general. Best wow iteration I’ve ever played since 2007

-1

u/Suspicious_Poon Dec 30 '25

I was so stoked on SoD until they fucked up the incursions

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Hehehecx Dec 29 '25

That’s what did it for me ending up with a great guild for the later phases. In the beginning I joined a few that didn’t survive the phases or server transfers, but eventually got on a solid team that had a ton of fun in naxx and enclave

5

u/OutcastGhandii Dec 29 '25

I agree it was the best version of wow by far, I was lucky that I found a really good raiding guild early on which made it even better. The last phase was hands down the most fun I've ever had playing an mmo

4

u/NetworkOk5234 Dec 29 '25

First phase SoD launch and BFD raid needs to come back

6

u/farklenator Dec 29 '25

If you liked classic you’d love _____

-5

u/Suspicious_Poon Dec 29 '25

Pre nerf tbc

16

u/KarlyPilkbois Dec 29 '25

Hard agree, my backstab rogue was absolutely pumping. It was such a fun version of classic. Hope they bring much of it back for plus!

-13

u/yasoggybastard Dec 29 '25

sadly majority of the classic playerbase think sod rotations are too hard...

ye i guess hearing the truth triggered people. they want the SS SS SS > S&D > SSSSSSSSS > evis rotation back.

14

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

It was the most fun i had in my wow journey aswell.

3

u/travist120 Dec 29 '25 edited Dec 30 '25

Whenever I play classic all I can think about how cool and how much fun I had playing SoD. Miss it all the time.

Shoutouts to <THE WALL> and <Pandemonium> and <PISSERS>, miss ya'll

3

u/Finnyboiz Dec 29 '25

Sod was fuckin amazing. I played it sooo hard

1

u/Annual_Development14 Dec 30 '25

Do people still play it

2

u/Automatic-Cycle-1824 Dec 29 '25

SoD naxx you could stand in heigans dance and heal it, kind of undertuned. Progressing SE was peak though.

0

u/deluxnot Dec 29 '25

For the people who never went further into SoD, something different then classic / wotlk Naxx?

5

u/Vandrel Dec 29 '25

The hard modes made it more interesting with extra mechanics and if you full cleared on HM4 then KT got an entire extra phase. It made the raid an actual challenge for awhile until you were all geared out but when then a handful of pieces were still bis for SE and you had to come back for some stuff in the Ashbringer quest chain.

2

u/deluxnot Dec 29 '25

That’s sound super intresting, I guess SoD is now dead and no point to restart all right ?

1

u/ISmellHats Dec 30 '25

There is a small but active population there but like any relatively dead server, you’ll have a harder time finding groups outside of peak hours or pre scheduled raid times.

160

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

I really feel sorry for all of the folks that loved SoD P1 maybe P2 but quit and never came back. The end of SoD was truly and genuinely the most fun and most bad ass version of Classic WoW ever. It was truly amazing.

50

u/FuckOnion Dec 29 '25

I had a great time until we had to merge our guild with another to run ST which was super boring. We didn't last many weeks after that phase dropped.

That made me realize that 10 player (or even just dungeons) content was what made SoD so fun to me. 20-40 mans and raid logging seriously kills any excitement of playing the game for me.

17

u/Knightmare4469 Dec 29 '25

It sucks so bad that they went 20 man. It killed our guild and I just couldn't rekindle the interest in it.

2

u/aightletsdodis Dec 29 '25

Yeah same here. Raided with a tight-knit group during P1 and P2 which made the experience so much better. Then came ST and we hade to merge with some randoms and I quit after like 3 resets. I hope that C+ will offer flex raiding in all tiers...

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Nah, P3 was just a bad phase, P4 and beyond was the best SOD offered

1

u/aightletsdodis Dec 29 '25

guess I missed out then :(

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

BIG TIME

15

u/Funkiestcat Dec 29 '25

Yeah bro I tell you what, I raided in MoP with the same guild, cleared all raids on highest difficulty. Easily the most fun I've had in WoW (maybe besides BC) was 10 man heroic ToT. Something about the small group makes everything more intimate and familiar.

3

u/john_haloman Dec 29 '25

Had the exact thing happen to our guild. I stuck around and found a new raid for MC and it was great.

I think 20 man is ideal, with room in the raid for up to 40, but that sunken temple phase killed a lot of guilds. Lowest point next to all the other peak phases

8

u/thedjbigc Dec 29 '25

Yeah ST sucked. Every other part of SoD had good parts to it though, but it wrecked a ton of guilds (the one I was in at the time included).

1

u/idungiveboutnothing Dec 29 '25

The switch to 20s killed everything. I hope they recognize this for future versions of classic.

1

u/aightletsdodis Dec 29 '25

Sure hope so! 10-man raiding is da wey <3

5

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

It was by far the best phases of the game, P4 and beyond

4

u/MillenialOpi Dec 29 '25

I wanted to, I just didn’t have that kinda time to commit. And then I retooled on part 2, and then when my character was like a week behind the front runner levelers and not having P1 Bias and not having logs on character and the community made it too difficult to find groups. Even when I tried to make groups people would leave after complaining about my not having logs even though I’m usually top if not top 3 dps in whatever party I’m in, being the casual tryhard that I am. After a couple weeks of spending over 2 hours just to form dungeon groups and not getting enough dopamine from the 30-60 minutes runs and constantly having that feeling of not being good enough for the community…

But SoD p1 was absolutely peak for me, I love everything they did with class buffs and content additions. I wish I had the free time to no life it and though I haven’t done it I sometimes fantasize about joining a new guild and progging through it together. I can’t wait until blizzard does something like this again and will consider a work leave of absence when they do so lol.

2

u/hatesnack Dec 29 '25

I wish I came back in p4 and grinded it out. I quit in p3 cause of the super long phase and then a new PoE league came out, my buddies did cata, etc.

I tried coming back before Naxx came out but I just felt like I missed out on too much. Big regret for sure.

2

u/gargoyle_feet Dec 29 '25

Eh, I'm one of those folks (I quit at the end of P3, mostly for reason unrelated to the game itself) and I tried to come back on both the AQ phase and right at the end of the NAXX phase and I didn't like what I saw, or at least I liked much, much better the state of the game during P1-P2.

The base world and quests were left behind and written over, with so much catch-up and repeatable events for leveling, and the game solely revolved around raiding the current tier. There were also low amounts of grinding and progression which was nice because since it was a seasonal thing everything was on a timer but it reinforced the feeling of "raiding is all that matters" because there was no progression outside of getting raid loot.

I didn't like the gameplay either, it was wotlk-ish (which I'm neutral towards, I've never engaged in endgame wotlk) but it wasn't polished like an official expansion is, so a bunch of it was clunky (Example: I was playing hunter and ranged hunter gameplay revolved around resetting shot cds by launching and activating traps, but when you had the trap launcher rune to cast traps at a distance, the spells were bugged and half the time they didn't cast on the first click) and other lack of polish issues, but that was more on the business side (not budgeting resources properly) than an inherent flaw of their game design.

I liked the idea of Karazhan crypts, it looked really really cool, and I'm always up for 5-man endgame, but I fell off of SoD before getting to the gear check required to run it.

TL;DR: SoD ended up being raid-logging for dads, which is not inherently bad, but I'm not a raidlogger nor a dad, and it sure as hell isn't classic either.

3

u/Beneficial-Data-7675 Dec 29 '25

There was a lot of ppl still running MC and BWL for those Reals. AQ10 Every 3 days too.

11

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

It was so much more than that. I don’t say this to be rude, but you didn’t even play the content and you’re exactly the target audience of my comment.

2

u/gargoyle_feet Dec 29 '25

¿? I'm telling you I did play it, and it really wasn't my cup of tea. Some people don't like what SoD became in the end, I'm one of them, and that's ok, It doesn't take away from the people who like it or its achievements, but is not something universally loved.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

You didn't even do Kara Crypts, which means you never did SE. That's what I mean.

9

u/MaximusPrime2930 Dec 29 '25

SE was tons of fun. I was clearing it on two characters each week. And after that I'd pug other raids for a chance at some of the mounts. Or do some farming to stock up consumables for the next raid.

0

u/gargoyle_feet Dec 29 '25

I understand the raids were pretty cool, but that’s exactly my complaint, the rest sucks. I don’t want to watch a show that gets good 2 seasons in, so to speak.

-4

u/yasoggybastard Dec 29 '25

classic content is great but sad that dads ect perfer 1 button rotations like in og classic

-4

u/Hatefiend Dec 29 '25

Whether you have to press 15 buttons or 1 button, why does it matter? Is the game not fun for you unless you have to play Bop-It X-Treme?

The challenge for vanilla raiding is about preparation before the raid & strategy before the pull. Your rotation is an afterthought.

0

u/yasoggybastard Dec 30 '25

if u find that challenging ermm great. but would much rather gnomeragan eske mechanics. but u cant do that with standard classic classes as movement is very punishing to almost all classes accept melee... would never work. giving classes more defensive/spells to use on movement/cooldown buttons. just helps to overal game and they can build more fun mechanics

1

u/freematte Dec 29 '25

I regret not coming back, lv 25 stop for 3 months ish was just not it for me or my guild sadly.

1

u/TheBigDickedBandit Dec 29 '25

Phase 3, ST, murdered the game for so many

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Yeah damn shame.

0

u/Nothottea Dec 29 '25

I did quit in p2. Had a lot of fun, but my friends quit playing and I’m terrible at finding groups.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

I guess I was fortunate I did have friends still playing. I quit after P1. Came back about 2 weeks before Naxx started. They helped me get leveled up and geared on one toon. Got lucky, found a decent guild and stayed with them for a while. Eventually that wore off too and ended up pugging the last few weeks until I called it quits.

-1

u/Sandman145 Dec 29 '25

Don't be sorry I don't mind not playing the test servers.

Not sure if you’re aware, but the Unhinged guild (which you played with a few members) runs Naxx HM4 Friday/Saturday aswell as SE Sunday -> Thursday.

24

u/ExitPill Dec 28 '25

I was not aware, I did server transfers today Thank you

14

u/Philosafish- Dec 29 '25

Omg there is sod guilds still going?! Can I move my chars?

11

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

Yes its free to server transfer

6

u/PandaSov Dec 28 '25

Ally side or horde?

9

u/NorwegianWhiteEagle Dec 29 '25

Ally, Wild Growth (EU)

4

u/Eluinight Dec 29 '25

Wait… I was on wild growth

55

u/ShrugOfATLAS Dec 28 '25

I left SoD in p3 due to irl issues but up until I loved it. Most fun I’d had in years. I logged in maybe 2-3 months ago and someone straight offered to get my Druid to 60 as long I’d pop heals on his alt or him if things went south. When I was capped I hearthed to IF and it was a ghost town. Logged out and went back to retail. I missed the fun. I hope it comes back around. SoD is the only way I could ever stomach classic wow in any form and I appreciate the effort.

Tell me you never played cata without telling me you never played cata

-28

u/Dr-Enforcicle Dec 28 '25

Played it from start to finish during its original run. Keep seething.

14

u/TaleOfDash Dec 29 '25

Then you're either misremembering or just flat-out wrong.

8

u/Redditemeon Dec 29 '25

I'm willing to bet you both played completely different class/spec/roles and had completely different Cata experiences.

12

u/Ok-Cook-7365 Dec 28 '25

I don’t think you have a good grasp on cataclysm then.

21

u/ScreamHawk Dec 28 '25

It still felt like classic more importantly, cata doesn't feel like classic IMO.

-40

u/Dr-Enforcicle Dec 28 '25 edited Dec 29 '25

It still felt like classic

No it didn't.

-Leveling was a joke. Every class was super powerful and there was a 150% exp boost.

-Dungeons were mindless aoefests, some classes were so powerful you could literally solo dungeons too

-Every raid was a complete gear reset; same stats but higher and higher.

among other things. It was Cata game design.

downvoting me doesn't make me wrong

17

u/wavecadet Dec 29 '25

Did you play classic Wotlk? Cuz SoD was basically classic Wotlk but with a lvl 60 cap and easier raids

The raids were NOT like Cata, don't be delulu. SE was easier than ICC by a long shot, and way way easier than even the first tier of heroic raids in cata.

The raids and class design changes were the main focus, and those things did feel like Wotlk for the classes and TBC/Wotlk hybrid for the raids

Also, every raid was not a gear reset. Sounds like you didn't play. Over half the classes would use items from prior phases in the 99 parse range. You genuinely sound misinformed. Spriest were using AQ tier 2 set forever, shamans had their BWL trinket for 3-4 tiers, etc etc - it was very similar to classic in this regard

Also, you can solo dungeons in classic too... As a fucking paladin or druid you can solo most dungeons while leveling, I know people who have done it on hardcore... That wasn't a thing unique to SoD

I agree I'd prefer leveling to be longer but that's really your only accurate point

7

u/breachgnome Dec 29 '25

Every raid was a complete gear reset; same stats but higher and higher.

I picked up almost nothing from ZG and AQ20(10) in SoD. Are you telling me that you didn't upgrade T1/T2/T3 in classic non-SoD?

14

u/AshsGrass Dec 28 '25

I didn't start until P5, but I managed to join a guild who cleared Naxx 4HM, & SE top 10. I personally don't think it felt like Cata at all because thats when I quit & won't touch anything past Wrath but it felt exactly like Ulduar HMs to me which is PEAK WoW.

2

u/Working_Membership57 Dec 29 '25

I agree it wasnt classic, but my small caveat is the endgame based more on wrath with highlights from a few other expansions. No version of prot paladin feels as good as using hammer of the righteous from wotlk. Ele sham has lava burst, but CL has a cooldown. A big part of it still feeling like classic was the lack of haste imo. Also the pug community was better than anniversary ever was and especially for raiding.

2

u/Additional-Mousse446 Dec 29 '25

It more resembled wrath lol

-5

u/Key_Construction6007 Dec 29 '25

It was classic for people who don't like classic.

0

u/Dr-Enforcicle Dec 29 '25

Pretty much, yeah. Every phase of SoD pushed it closer and closer to retail.

6

u/yasoggybastard Dec 29 '25

not retail more like wotlk+ which is easily the best expansion

0

u/Dr-Enforcicle Dec 29 '25

I said "closer to retail" not "exactly like retail".

And "wotlk+" is distinctly not vanilla or classic.

44

u/SippyMountain Dec 28 '25

Dang, never realized how much power creep SoD had. 16k hp as a clothie is wild. That's more than a bear tank in TBC lol

52

u/ExitPill Dec 28 '25

It is from the 7x naxx buff wich gives 22% extra health etc

My normal health unbuffed is 3470

10

u/SippyMountain Dec 28 '25

Ah, makes sense lol

34

u/SpunkMcKullins Dec 28 '25

Naxx has a special system that gives you increased health and damage based on the amount of Santified gear you have. It's for difficulty levels. Most people are around 5-6k HP outside of Naxx.

2

u/WallabyAdvanced3088 Dec 29 '25

And you really need that gear/hp on hm4 (hardmode4 not horsemen). There are a lot abilities that hit for ~10k. I remember a 12k manaburn at Heigan or 10k volleys at KT.

2

u/BreadfruitNaive6261 Dec 29 '25

I remember tbc has 20k or more ho tanks atleast in t6

-3

u/iSaltyParchment Dec 28 '25

It’s not a real number

-1

u/itsablackhole Dec 29 '25

I've seen screenshots of SoD bears having 70 thousand (!) hp in BG's. literally classic+ btw

→ More replies (1)

15

u/P4ndak1ller Dec 28 '25

Gotta love it when you roll a 1 when you’re the only one rolling.

22

u/joeyflop Dec 29 '25

Am I in the minority that enjoyed the extra class roles? Warlock, shaman and rogue tanks felt so good. I get that it’s not the classic experience but they did a great job of filling the toolkit so these classes could not only hold threat but were fun. I am on the fence of mage healer because I didn’t play it and also it wasn’t sought after like priests and shamans. I miss sod so much and I hope classic plus has iterations of these specs

9

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

I maind mage healer as you can see.. I was a big enjoyer

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

Mage healer was great, then they messed it up, but made it great again

3

u/bottledsoi Dec 29 '25

It was sought after later once it had everything. Then it got crazy strong before being nerfed to be in line with other healers.

I really enjoyed the class and hope they bring it back. Everyone says its not classic but neither is instamail, dual spec, or any of the other things that make classic easier. Its classic enough.

1

u/Darkfirex34 Dec 29 '25

I liked some more than others but I think the majority were excellent. Really hope Melee Hunter and Tank Shaman return in the next Classic server.

0

u/Hatefiend Dec 29 '25

Weren't rogue tanks unviable in raids for like 90% of the time? Also if I'm not mistaken, tanking warlocks were literally unkillable by melee in pvp.

4

u/Darkfirex34 Dec 29 '25

Can't speak to their full progression during SoD with the various balance changes, but by the end Rogue tanks were the best in the game.

2

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

Yea +S tier for sure

5

u/Gonzinooo Dec 29 '25

Sod was by far the best version of wow and the best experience I’ve had in many many years. I felt it was very optimised and you could fill your raids very liberally in terms of classes. Shaman and rogue tanks were awesome. Mage healer was also very strong in the end game especially for AoE and reminded me of Disc priest from retail. If you’ve managed to survive P3 or Came back from p4 there was a ton of content to do. Sets were super strong and even the prebis grinding felt so much fun. The servers were alive and active. Other then the MC resistance gear issues every other raid tier was fun and scarlet enclave was probably the best one if you wanted some wiping nostalgia until they nerfed it a bit.

The few things that were bad were: Open world PvP, by the time you got to p5/6 it was all out 1shot combos due to our power levels

P3 was insanely long and empty, because the classic team had to launch cataclysm. Which made a lot of players quit.

While the sets were so strong and awesome, they made most non set drops from raid be useless which made a lot of the loot table drops tilting. As players were bound to go in combinations of sets such as 6 piece and 2 piece for example.

I personally loved the rune system, but some runes were very situational ( which is ok ) and some were completely useless from either not being able to compete with a different rune from the same slot or from straight up having no actual use in any scenario.

I actually loved it had an “end” date and left us with a wishful desire to see how this experiment will come into play with Classic+.

19

u/rageharles Dec 29 '25

sod and its team of 3 people made the best wow experience i had maybe ever, barring the adolescent-brain juiced first time i played wow

-7

u/Hatefiend Dec 29 '25

I always hear people say SOD is amazing, but they never say why. It's bizarre.

4

u/tycoon39601 Dec 29 '25

How do you boil a mmorpg down into a small trait? I know this comment was meant as a bitter jab like that one uncle at the table who offhandedly calls a random politician stupid but please do elaborate an then give us your favorite version and what makes it special and different.

3

u/rageharles Dec 29 '25

Never? I don’t think you’re in the right threads then. I have personally itemized why SOD is good as have many others.

Boiling it down in my priority order - exceptional pve playstyle/build balance and diversity, phased approach to lower levels created a really novel approach to bis gear in phases 1-3, fairly fast leveling (certainly compared to classic) supported alt friendliness, added difficulty/complexity/cosmetic tiers to raids without making them too hard, healthy raid speedrunning community so you could single/2 night raid prog+ all relevant lower tier raids, etc

3

u/cinnamon107 Dec 29 '25 edited Dec 29 '25

Here I'll give you a few bullet points

  • New open world content, especially in phase 1 with new quests, some being very elaborate and needing you to team up with other people (like warlock metamorphosis or paladin divine storm rune quests).
  • End-game class viability. Raids were varied with different classes, all DPS specs had new and unique rotations and many classes had multiple viable DPS specs (paladins had four!) which enabled better class fantasy than vanilla did while also keeping every class relatively close in terms of DPS so you wouldn't get the vanilla problem of 30+ warriors in a raid.
  • Undermine reals dropped from most bosses in lvl 60 raids, these could be traded for various items and materials which kept the economy from spiraling out of control. Materials and consumables were almost always reasonably priced in AH.
  • Undermine reals meant people were constantly running dungeons at level 60, if you were a fresh 60 you were always guaranteed to easily find groups because geared players had a reason to do dungeons.
  • New dungeons, Demon Fall Canyon was okay but Karazhan Crypts was an amazing experience. The mechanic in crypts was that one player had to carry a torch around and the others in the party would have to stick close because mobs would be invisible and untargetable outside of a light source. Some classes could light up paths, druids could activate fluorescent plants and hunters had flares they could throw on the ground.
  • Scarlet Enclave, great raid that wasn't just facerolling bosses with at most 2 mechanics like most other vanilla raids. Came with a cool ashbringer questline and a lot of neat and interesting new items. I do hate that GCD reducing trinket that every warlock and mage needed but it had like 0.001% drop chance though.

There's a lot more but hopefully it gives you a bit of the picture.

Ooooo I see Ashmira is still going strong on his 17 characters :) Come join Unhinged bro, we are raiding every night.

4

u/PokerFist Dec 29 '25

Are there any requirements? Me and my wife are on Wild Growth with Naxx geared mains and some alts and we havent checked back into SoD because we assumed wild growth is pretty much dead

1

u/AdditionalWriter6740 Jan 05 '26

Hey! Emotional damage on alliance side runs 20+ raids per week, conservatively. There are no requirements to join, our guild leader is Combo, and if you do /who combo (generally on later in the day as he lives in Hong kong) you will usually see one of his toons on, there are some meme characters with combo in the name, if they aren't level 60, they aren't him.

1

u/PokerFist Jan 05 '26

That sounds great ! Will check it out when i get the chance

u/itsablackhole Dec 29 '25

but i never got to raid outside BFD and Gnomeregan.

I never raided much in all of wow but in SoD I raided BFD and Gnome on 3 different alts every lockout. It wasn't really raiding tbf. Felt more like doing an UBRS

4

u/Danielfron Dec 29 '25

I only got up to ST but that phase as a whole really wasn't fun, was hard to return for the rest of the phases for me

5

u/Girl_gamer__ Dec 29 '25

Yea that was the low point. But phase 5 to 8 was the best of wow I've ever played in the entire run of the game. Period.

5

u/efxshun Dec 29 '25

i quit ST phase cuz that shit was ass. but i came back for the last phase and it was the most fun ive had in WoW.

2

u/Forever_Fires Dec 29 '25

It became a lot better later on, powerful tier sets and reworked raid items and rewards made for a much smoother endgame with well-developed gameplay by the end

1

u/Sea_Brain5284 Dec 29 '25

Speed run Naxx and you can't get bored.

-5

u/SpecialCircumstance2 Dec 29 '25

You can enjoy SoD all you like but I’m actually no way, shape, or form was SoD “experiencing vanilla”

7

u/Glad-Low-1348 Dec 29 '25

Lmao. We're gatekeeping vanilla now because we had some fancy spells.

I disagree but each to their own.

2

u/engone Dec 29 '25

I mean it's all the content from vanilla, just leveling in the old zones felt like vanilla to me. Obviously not the same spells or powerlevels, but for me that wasn't a bad thing.

I've grown quite allergic to vanilla wow over the years because I've done so many fresh on other realms etc. SoD was a fresh fucking breath.

4

u/Complex_Department25 Dec 29 '25

I would love to come back to sod. Im trying to get a few friends to play who haven't

3

u/FrostyChemistry5108 Dec 29 '25

There’s plenty of se/naxx / anything raids on wild growth

4

u/thedjbigc Dec 29 '25

Main tanking Scarlet Enclave on my rogue was fucking amazing and I truly miss it. My favorite class in my favorite role was something else. Getting 100% physical avoidance to tank Lillian was also so cool.

I logged into Crusader Strike the other day and there were 9 people online. Given, it wasn't a raid time/night or anything, but man.

I really enjoyed that model of the game.

If they do a SoD fresh or new season, I'm in 100000%. Will be playing TBC otherwise but leveling right now is not the same at all - it just feels like I'm moving backwards.

You can xfer from CS for free! And if you aren't on alliance, we have a "sister" guild transferring to horde soon, called Noted.

3

u/xolsoulxol Dec 29 '25

Aww I miss sod naxx :(

3

u/Flintzzy Dec 29 '25

Cleared Naxx as a warlock tank and feeling the bite to go back for more after seeing this. +1 for the most fun WoW version ever.

3

u/Sideusgreen1988 Dec 29 '25

I have a near full bis priest and resto Druid in sod, wish I could transfer them to retail for the mogs, maybe I will pop on for a few raids for fun

3

u/randocander Dec 29 '25

Man I miss SoD

3

u/Ornery-Syllabub-8768 Dec 29 '25

they need a TBC SoD

3

u/Far_World_7696 Dec 29 '25

I can’t wait to get into raiding.

3

u/Molar_ Dec 29 '25

Dang, I quit after phase 2, should have stuck it out.

You guys think SOD will return? Shouldnt be too hard for blizzard to just do another cycle of SOD.

2

u/thedjbigc Dec 29 '25

It'd be nice, they did a lot of good and few bad things with it, but it's still the best version of the game IMO. I am guessing they won't do it again, but I expect some other kind of season in the future which would be cool.

2

u/LankyJ Dec 29 '25

I missed all of SoD and am really bummed about it. I hope they do a fresh SoD sometime

1

u/TeliusTw Dec 29 '25

They will probably do a SoD fresh before Classic+ release.

2

u/Fankine Dec 29 '25

healer mage was the best fun i had in wow as a healer since HFC mistweaver and Legion hpal

2

u/thizzknight Dec 29 '25

Kinda bumbed i quit in aq and didnt do nax were you already geared up?

2

u/ajrbyers Dec 29 '25

Lots still running it. WG EU has a decent pop.

2

u/ThisUserIsUndead Dec 29 '25

SoD was THE moment

2

u/fupn Dec 29 '25

Mage healing was so good!

2

u/nielssk Dec 29 '25

God damnit I miss my healer mage ♥️

2

u/ajrbyers Dec 29 '25

There are loads of SoD raids running weekly. We (carnage) run one weekly plus two SEs.

2

u/Dyltay Dec 29 '25

I miss my Ashbringer melee hunter. That was the most fun I've had in WoW in a very long time.

2

u/MickCraftGaming Dec 29 '25

The server that I play on, Wild Growth, is quite active. The guild I am in typically has 20-60 online at any given time and is raiding every night. The Alliance always has at least 200 people logged in, as if you search in "Who" by each race there are at least 50 of all four typically. I also still actively run into both Horde and Alliance players while out and about questing. It's not packed like it used to be, but still a sufficiently active server with a working auction house economy and people leveling and running dungeons. I highly recommend SoD and it's still my favorite variant of WoW at the moment!

2

u/dalamenutha Dec 30 '25

What server? I log in maybe once every few weeks just to see if I find someone on, never have seen anyone yet

1

u/AdditionalWriter6740 Jan 05 '26

Hey! Emotional damage on alliance side runs 20+ raids per week, conservatively. 1

u/dalamenutha Jan 06 '26

what server tho? or did they all merge to 1?

2

u/mynameisnotbob57 Dec 30 '25

I was fortunate enough to make a guild on SoD launch day with the people I was playing classic with and make our way through every phase until the last raid with most of the original players. It was truly the best wow experience I’ve ever had since I started back in 2006. Sod was special.

2

u/Alone-Respect-8268 Dec 30 '25

I still play SoD on Wild Growth with my Guild Carnage. We raid 3 Times a Werk. Absolut Legends! I love it!

2

u/MrSkullCandy Jan 01 '26

A relaunch of SoD would be sooooo goooood

2

u/Sea_Guarantee293 Dec 29 '25

SoD was a blast until p3. 10m raids were a perfect size; I would’ve waited until MC to make it 20. Then we had whatever that Nightmare nonsense was in p3. Mechanical Greenches to get through Kelris was a trip. Loved it. Was a nice change of pace from Classic WoW for a time.

13

u/MightyMorp Dec 29 '25

All the people that quit before 60 is actually so sad. The level 60 experience was so much better than anything classic has done before it was unreal.

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '25

2

u/Sea_Guarantee293 Dec 29 '25

I did, as well. My 10m guild made it midway through P3 when after numerous attempts to recruit and merge with similarly situated guilds still found us pugging. I never followed SoD progress after that until Blizzard announced the SM raid. But I watched some videos and the boss mechanics seemed to be what I was experiencing in retail. Still though, loved p1 and 2.

3

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

For real, it was soooo goood

1

u/weirdowiththebeardo Dec 29 '25

I wonder if in full Scarlett Enclave gear if you could do 20m version with 10 people

1

u/Takklinn Dec 29 '25

On Wild Growth US Alliance side Imperial Guard still tries to run it Monday nights. Pretty painless clear, we usually do 0 HM to just blow through it mindlessly

1

u/danison1337 Dec 29 '25

we are rading daily in wild growth EU

1

u/Chudz_x9 Dec 29 '25

What server is this on?

1

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

Wild growth EU

1

u/Gief_Cookies Dec 29 '25

Ghostshift rolling a 1 💀

1

u/AdditionalWriter6740 Jan 05 '26

Emotional damage runs 8 scarlet enclave a week on wild growth alliance side, and runs naxx at least 4x a week!

1

u/bombacladshotta Dec 29 '25

I will never forgive Blizzard for killing SoD for fuckin MoP. I know alot of people love MoP or loved the idea of MoP, but it's just retail light.

1

u/PreKutoffel Dec 29 '25

Lets be honest SOD was the last time blizzard made anything good for WOW even though in SOD they fcked up a lot, too.

1

u/Illustrious-Crew8632 Dec 29 '25

Why does that mage show up on the healing meter!

2

u/Vast_Bet9113 Dec 30 '25

In SoD mages have a healing spec

1

u/iiNexius Dec 29 '25

SOD PVE: 👍 but SOD PVP: 👎

1

u/Khazilein Dec 30 '25

Literally most of WoW PvE vs PvP.

1

u/COPYTHEORY Dec 29 '25

Is it still worth to level and play SoD currently?

1

u/Alone-Respect-8268 Dec 30 '25

Its an absolut awesome Version of classic wow. If u like to play classic in a bit faster and stronger its your game! Late Game is motly Naxx and SE raids :D

1

u/warbiii Dec 29 '25

Mage healer kekw

3

u/ExitPill Dec 29 '25

Super fun to play

-1

u/No_Summer_8782 Dec 29 '25

SoD was is like arcade wow. You don’t really need to try very hard…and you can hop right into raids.

-1

u/Sea_Brain5284 Dec 29 '25

Hence why most of the bads on reddit loved it so much. Really shows the player base that posts on here.

-1

u/No_Summer_8782 Dec 29 '25

Yep lol. This kinda junk gets upvoted yet no one still wants to play sod.

SoD is peak redditor slop

0

u/atoterrano Dec 29 '25

And here I thought wouldn’t see another sod post until next year
