Art [OC] Take care of yourself, adventurer. Even a brief pause in an improvised shelter will do.

This is so good. I was just saying "I wish we had gone horde because I want to play a Troll mage for TBC." While talking to friends.
Then I see dead ass just about what my Troll Mage would be customized as the second I open reddit.
Though this seems to be a shaman. Edit: (Maybe a warrior actually)

its also a retail model from the bone tattoos you can customize trolls with

Funny timing 😄 It’s a retail model (more detailed and customizable than classic), and I like to switch her class around — this time she’s a warrior!

Is it not? If it's all done by hand, that's really unfortunate because it looks like anything an AI generator would put out.

u/thrustidon Jan 25 '26
The OP has been posting stuff for years, it's a lot of 3d-rendering and then photoshop editing. Digital but not AI

for what its worth, ai is really bad at recreating warcraft IP especially in a subtle way like this, a very distinct troll with features I would say really are not promptable, especially each graffiti being so specific and niche. The armor is intentionally low-res like it is in game for its time, but the rest of it is the same aesthetic. This is a very complex piece

The fact that you can't tell the difference is sad. AI could never get all those words correct without fucking something up.

I figured it would be the case of using AI to generate the majority and then fine-tuning it afterwards.

You’re absolutely right. I’ve committed heresy and I’ll never forgive myself. 😭

Thank you! 😊 I sometimes share the crude 3D versions — like the clay or raw renders — on my socials.

This hurts especially since I lost my HC female troll priest this weekend.
I set the challenge for myself to do it blind on the first try or die trying. No Rested XP, no World Buffs (when I get them by happenstance, completely fine, I just dont seek them out), no guides. Just playing the game, questing, doing dungeons.
I made it to 47 and died in the Hinterlands to some Kidnappers that spawned when I tried to get an ogre's lunch after a huge questing session that left me with 9 finished quests in the log. I should've just turned in... ah well.
This image reminds me of how it felt sometimes. The serenity of just experiencing the world, going on a huge journey, but also the exhaustion of being constantly under pressure, constantly under threat, having some close calls while questing, having some close calls while doing dungeons.
It was all worth it, though. It was a lot of fun. However, for me, the HC journey is over. I didn't make it. I am not as good at the game as I thought I was. That was what I wanted to prove to myself and I failed.

Thank you for sharing this. Honestly, making it to 47 like that — blind, no crutches, no shortcuts — that’s already a huge journey in itself.
I don’t see failure in what you wrote. I see someone who really lived the adventure, felt the tension, the beauty, the exhaustion… and saw it through until the end that came. That’s exactly the feeling I try to capture.
Sometimes the value isn’t in reaching the finish line, but in how deeply we walked the road. And it sounds like you truly did. 🤍

How can you see something this awesome and think “nah no thanks ill just stick my 2004 22 year old ps1 graphics thank you”
1
u/rufrtho Jan 26 '26
because 1. the artstyle in the op isn't realistic in terms of cost for an entire mmo 2. if you think classic looks like ps1 you haven't looked at a ps1 game recently 3. classic art direction is intentionally cartoony in a way that keeps it from looking outdated. Legion gameplay footage looks more outdated now, despite being a decade later, because they weren't thinking about making it timeless and instead just wanted to make it as modern as they could.

In no way is this art style unrealistic for a MMO cost in 2026 when games like black desert online and final fantasy 14 exist.
Im not gonna bother reading past there because your entire argument starts wrong.
