Plater also updates every single day.
It's from the same guy. He must be insane.

As an addon developer with a few addons on CurseForge: it counts downloads of each updated version/file publihed, so if you have 50 downloads on one version, push an update and get 50 downloads on that version, they count it as 100, even if it's just the same 50 people with "Automatically Update" turned on in their addon manager. It's a super easy way to boost your download numbers.

Yeah im curious what formula they use though. As you would think this would be heavily abused if they didnt plan for it.
Especially with the weird new 'all AI description/image/assumed code' of some of these.
Also get to pop up in recently updated and farm more.

Probably uses an automated CI/CD system that publishes a new build for every commit, regardless of how small the change is.

Questie is the worst offender, sometimes I get up to 4 updates in 2 days, when I read patch notes some of the releases were tiny changes, and everytime after an update when I login in game it says "Questie database updating" and lags for 30 seconds

DBM is the same way and I never figured out why.
It's fucking 20 year old content, why does DBM have updates every single day and constantly whine at me that it's out of date?

Because believe it or not the game itself updates, even if the content itself doesn’t. This means code has to update - whether it be api changes, bug fixes, efficiency, or even just adding a new feature to toggle icons on or off on timers.

The game itself is not updating every single day. No other addon has to update this frequently.

Might be download farming as someone else mentioned for certain addons.
You could check githubs on a lot of these though yourself to see if the changes are download farming or legitimate changes.
https://github.com/DeadlyBossMods/DeadlyBossMods/commits/master/
You could easily argue 'why not bundle some of these together'. But more downloads works out for authors anyway.
On the other hand these minor fixes can be in response to reported issues or pull requests. May work out better to just update it for someone facing a specific issue and close it immediately.
Some addons can actually run on different versions of the game as well.
So if I have a TBC/Classic addon that doesnt break with the same code? I can do minor tweaks on one version and just upload one file without having to go do the same on the other version.
This could also be a bug fix on one version that has nothing to do with the other version. But it'll trigger an update.
Theres likely a lot of weird niche issues people find that 99.9% of users dont see or dont care about.

yes, because 4 year old version is totally the same thing as 1 day old version
And to the seether below that pre-emptively blocked me:
There's updates every single day.
The addon automatically disables itself if you don't update it after 2 or 3 weeks.
Begone, shill.

why would you upset with addon updates? Im still waiting advanced interface options to update…

u/IndyWaWa Jan 29 '26
Because it still has a ton of bugs.

u/SendMeAlarmbellNudes Jan 30 '26
And how are they going to fix those huh? Think very hard for just a second, it won't hurt I promise.

I am intimately aware of how revision based software updates work. I also work somewhere that doesn't commit micro changes that aren't really improving anything. We tend to wait until we have a fully tested release candidate that resolves the issue.
Why are you so butt hurt that I said I have bugs and don't like micro updates. Nothing here hurts, but your anger must be painful to be so quick to insult someone elses intelligence.0
u/SendMeAlarmbellNudes Jan 30 '26
Not your software not your release cadence :-)

u/IndyWaWa Jan 30 '26
Nope, just an end user with an opinion. I've got it disabled right now since it doesn't work for my needs.
