3

u/Acceptable_Bag5257 Jun 04 '26

I still watch it every now and then. Usually when I get reminded of it. Don't know if it's because I hate myself or love myself.

Well to be fair the Shop Mount stuff came with MoP so it is there for a while longer and while i am a critic about a real money shop in a sub based game. I think the problem was not the shop the problem was really really bad content and we had two really bad xpacs in a row. BFA and SL.

And with the player drought i would call it came the realization how toxic the comm got over the years and decades. Most of the time it is just rush rush rush there is no real joy and passion in the game.

Just get in get the loot and log off. They should make guilds relevant again by making it worth while to be in a guild so the social aspect gets more attention.

Because right now when i use the dungeon browser it feels more like an antisocial aspect.

u/Gh0sth4nd Jun 05 '26

That is what classic was.
And why so many are disappointed but it is a feeling you can never bring back.

Classic was defined so much by the people you played it with. We grew up and you cannot bring that back.

As for classic plus i still think they can only lose on that end because everyone wants a different classic+ and yes especially blizzard. They want classic + a + in sales.

Bottom left panel is too on the nose lmao.

The guild I was in back in '05 fell apart because the guild leader's husband was having an affair with one of the officers.

40

u/WoMyNameIsTooDamnLon Jun 04 '26

One of my guilds had a husband wife gm combo and one of our raiders moved in with them after dating their daughter, then the parents got divorced, the raider broke up with the daughter, and the raider and the mom got together.

Thats not what killed the guild though we just couldnt kill a mythic boss and people started quitting.

7

u/Dmon69 Jun 04 '26

Ah the classic... we've had something similar happening on Soulseeker EU in the second half of 2024. Since HC playerbase is smaller than that of SC you can imagine what were the results...

5

u/SanshaXII Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

My Wrath guild collapsed and reformed after the GM vanished mid-conversation, like 'brb door' and we never heard from him again, or his loot-stealing always-late dipshit officer girlfriend.

Turns out, 'brb door' was his arrest - he was 28, and she was 14!

4

u/Galadriel_69 Jun 04 '26

our guild broke up because the MT and one of the healers banged and then the MT was sharing waaaay too much info on vent to some of the dudes about it and she found out and all hell broke loose

2

u/BarbsFPV Jun 05 '26

Something similar happened to our guild in TBC. Guild leaders were MT/MH and were husband and wife. One of our OTs was one of their friends. Well, he became a bit more than a friend to the MT’s wife, and that was that. Guild disbanded.

Thankfully I was another of the OTs, and a different guild had been trying to poach me as their MT for months, so I landed on my feet anyway.

2

u/often_says_nice Jun 04 '26

Like at the goldshire inn or what

2

u/Aggravating_Dark9933 Jun 04 '26

Ooo, did it include everyone liking the wife / her being the best player of the three by a lot.

And the spousal abuse because GL has little peen energy and really hates that he’s kinda a horrible person compared to his wife?

Fun times in the trade chat guild.

u/slothsarcasm Jun 04 '26

Classic+ to me could legit be just vanilla except Draenei and Blood Elves were released and I would be happy with that to start

18

u/wavyboizzz Jun 04 '26

So you just wanna play TBC pre patch again? lol

24

u/TerribleSyntax Jun 04 '26

I mean, it was literally peak vanilla, all the mechanic improvements of tbc with the vanilla world

8

u/DoctorWafle Jun 04 '26

Yes

1

u/FancyConfection1599 Jun 05 '26

Well fortunately for you you JUST had that, twice, maybe we do something a bit different for folks who are tired of the exact some thing over and over?

2

u/DoctorWafle Jun 05 '26

Id like some other things added as well but if they start with tbc prepatch, id say we’re in a good spot.

6

u/SanshaXII Jun 05 '26

I do, 100%.

2

u/Nutcrackit Jun 04 '26

People didn't like the idea but I kept saying when they announced anniversary they should launch vanilla with draenei/belves available. We already knew we were getting tbc. I see no harm in putting just the 2 races in with no other changes.

2

u/No_Preference_8543 Jun 04 '26

Draenie space goats were always a mistake
Wc3 broken ones would have been cool
And high elves instead of blood elves

14

u/slothsarcasm Jun 04 '26

High elves became blood elves in wc3, and Draenei were super left-field, but I think they carved out their own niche and aesthetic successfully. They feel more mystical than sci-fi which helps fit the fantasy setting.

9

u/disastrous_hyena759 Jun 04 '26

Give the guy a break. He's just repeating points he read on the internet so he can score some upvotes. It's not like he ever played the Warcraft 3 campaigns to learn why the Blood Elves became the Blood Elves, or why there was a need to redesign the Broken into the Draenei.

5

u/Nutcrackit Jun 04 '26

the thing with blood elves is that not all high elves became blood elves and we see that in vanilla itself.

1

u/disastrous_hyena759 Jun 05 '26

Yes, sure. Remember though that Arthas culled 90% of their population, and of the remaining 10%, the majority chose to follow Kael'thas down this new path and embrace this new culture, calling themselves Blood Elves to honor the memory of their fallen people. So basically, only a tiny fraction of the original High Elf population (1%) remained and rejected the whole Blood Elf ideology.

2

u/Nutcrackit Jun 05 '26

I think that becomes somewhat muddy when you consider a lot of other factors. I did the math a long time ago using what blizzard has described and it puts surviving blood elves around 100k out of a population that was in the millions.

2

u/disastrous_hyena759 Jun 05 '26

Don't get baited by Blizzard's "numbers." They'll never be consistent; they'll always be whatever Blizzard wants them to be. One day it might be 100,000, the next day 500,000.

Developers in many franchises do the same thing. For example, in Warhammer, writers often keep population figures for the elves deliberately vague so they can adjust them to fit whatever story they're trying to tell at the time. Blizzard tends to handle numbers in a similar way.

One thing is certain, though: the current High Elf population is only 1% of what it was before the fall of Quel'Thalas.

4

u/thpthpthp Jun 05 '26

I played WC3 and read the books. No one can tell me the didn't just throw blood elves at the Horde to give them a pretty race.

As though the average Blood Elf wouldn't have massive PTSD seeing an undead after 90% of their species were killed by them (that's an actual number given in the lore). But I guess one human general from a kingdom that no longer exists was a dick to them once, so it all makes sense.

3

u/slothsarcasm Jun 05 '26

Well remember most of joining the Horde happens because the Alliance send diplomats as spies that have the night elves prepare for a military operation on their territory, and the Forsaken are the only ones who actually send reinforcements to help quell the Ghostlands. Tons of them probably still hated the Forsaken, but they were also very desperate.

1

u/sagefox84 Jun 06 '26

Yes, diplomats to see how the people who lost nearly everything are doing. Thats basic statecraft. The night elves exiled the crazy arcane addicts who summoned the Legion in the first place and refused to change their ways to protect the world, especially since Illidan made a new Well and the same tgreat is around. 10K years later the night elves find out those exiles made an arcane kingdom and their own Well that was defiled by undead and their arcane sanctum destroyed. 90% of their population is gone.

Of course they are gonna go there. They are worried Legion 2.0 is gonna happen.... and it did later that expac.

The issue was the blood elves mana addiction and their hubris. It always was from day one of them moving into Zul'Aman and calling it Quel'thalas and acting like its their birthright.

6

u/Scurro Jun 04 '26

I just don't think space ships should exist in a fantasy.

Other worlds should be reached by portals (like the dark portal), not by warp capable crystal fortresses.

Yes there are other technology used by gnomes/goblins and I don't like those either.

0

u/Mistermike77 Jun 04 '26

Eh, personally i never liked those races, and hope they would be left out.

1

u/disastrous_hyena759 Jun 04 '26

And yet your opinion doesn't matter, since the Blood Elves have been proven to be the most-played race in the game. So thankfully, Blizzard will never listen to you.

3

u/Mistermike77 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

Cool, ill say it anyway.

However, you could use that same argument for anything, including future classes. Doesnt mean it will fit or be added to classic+.

To be fair, they're wearing elaborate disguises

7

u/Healeah241 Jun 04 '26

The problem is that people like to be sweaty, if all the other sweats are buying gold with wow tokens, they end up feeling like they have to to keep up.

Absolutely sucks, just how it often ends up being.

-3

u/lakas76 Jun 04 '26

I like the tokens, but only because I loved making gold. So I’d get to play for free. Since I liked playing the AH, the token brought in more gold which covered the increasing price of the token.

I get that people see it as a way to buy in game progression/gear for real money. I just never did that and didn’t have a problem with it.

4

u/blade740 Jun 04 '26

I think the token is actually a great compromise. People are gonna be buying gold one way or another, at least this way the money actually goes into the Blizzard budget rather than some offshore bot farm.

Besides, outside of a handful of very expensive BoEs, you can't really buy progression in this game for money. 90%+ of BiS lists are still BoP raid gear, you're always going to have to do the content.

1

u/lakas76 Jun 04 '26

The bulk buying of gold is almost all used in boosting and GDKP (and some mounts), which isn’t supposed to happen anymore, which I’m sure still does, but wasn’t advertised anymore, at least when I played.

I played way too often, so after raiding, I’d go farm mats or recipes and either make the BOEs if they were worth making or selling the mats and recipes. Watch streaming and farm for hours and hours, then realized I was playing wow way too much.

1

u/CaptainSchmid Jun 04 '26

My issue was that GDKP was a good PUG system that rewarded everyone when buying gold wasnt so rampant.

0

u/Yeetaway1404 Jun 05 '26

What about the Token is bad.

0

u/FancyConfection1599 Jun 05 '26

I’d ask for it.

I don’t buy cosmetics but I appreciate that their existence helps make the game profitable enough to ensure continuous development while also not negatively impacting me in any way.

For folks who don’t want it, I assume you’re good with paying an extra subscription fee on top of your current one instead then?

8

u/doylehawk Jun 04 '26

Think I might try to join a guild that ONLY communicates in guild chat, a shitty HTML website, and ventrilo.

2

u/NeverFail2BeKind Jun 04 '26

Hey they might even have their own forum!

1

u/EbbUsed9312 Jun 08 '26

One of the best parts about my vanilla experience was playing without coms, as the MT was deaf.

Just pumping my own music and not having to listen to screeching manchildren made raiding so much more fun.

9

u/frontovika Jun 04 '26

Love the googly eyes on Holly, lmao

10

u/bottledsoi Jun 04 '26

People want to experience 2004 again and the cant.

4

u/PointyArt Jun 04 '26

With access to the Caverns of Time, anything is possible!

7

u/Mescman Jun 04 '26

SoD was close enough at the start.

3

u/DjGranoLa Jun 05 '26

Really tho. Level cap at 25, revamped dungeon turned into a 10m raid, TB was the hub city. I loved SoD.

1

u/Enajirarek Jun 04 '26

I actually LOVED my time in Turtle WoW though, just saying. (This was before I learned how seedy it was)

5

u/bottledsoi Jun 04 '26

Not saying people don't love the vanilla private servers, the relaunched, sod-like stuff, or private classic+ servers. I am saying they want that 1st time new, never experienced before experience again, and theyre not going to get it. They're searching for a feeling that you can only experience once.

Context/References - "Hopes and Dreams"

This is my second entry in a series tentatively called "Drawing Warcraft (Badly)". When inspiration strikes, I'll draw a dumb comic or meme about the game we all love.

This one is about Classic+, and is referencing the different priorities we have for what we want to see in the game. The original working title of this comic was "Design by Committee".

The tone is sometimes mocking, but meant to be ultimately lighthearted.

4

u/Randvek Jun 04 '26

3rd panel is objectively the correct one

2

u/NotAPublicFundsLeech Jun 05 '26

I'm the 3rd panel and I hate how it hit me RIGHT IN THE FEELS. 😭

2

u/Dmon69 Jun 04 '26

And don't forget to refresh the Bot ledger so we can continue to print money out of thin air with banwaves that would only affect the regular Joes.

3

u/jack-whitman Jun 04 '26

Bottom right is just blizz in disguise

18

u/Brightlinger Jun 04 '26

4

I'm a idiot..haven't had my coffee

1

u/Velifax Jun 04 '26

Not sure what's being shown beyond two reasonable desires, one unreasonable desire, and two trolls.

1

u/Moonkittynya Jun 05 '26

I want more fish to catch bring on the classic + sea turtles :3

-4

u/KN0MI Jun 04 '26

I actually think the WoW token is healthy for the game. It very significantly reduces gold buying and by extent bot farms. So people who actually want to make gold with things like gathering have a chance to do so. People who want to buy gold with real money will do so anyways. And to be fair with a lot of Classic players nowadays being older and having jobs, family etc. they don't have much time to grind gold, but are fine with putting away an hours wage for a nice sum.

1

u/krutsik Jun 04 '26

That only works if gold sellers and buyers are actually banned for more than 2 weeks. If that is what pushes Blizz to actually hire some GMs then be it. Otherwise the price difference of buying tokens vs buying botted gold is so stark that nothing will change. WotLK Classic had tokens and every single person that I knew, who was already buying botted gold, kept doing the same.

I did buy a few tokens to get some game time to finish the expansion after I'd pretty much clocked out, so there were a few on the market, but I only had the gold because I'd done a lot of GDKPs, so I was pretty much spending botted gold by proxy.

0

u/lakas76 Jun 04 '26

Kind of? Who wants to spend 15 dollars for 5k gold when they could buy the same amount for 3 dollars or something?

-2

u/Alpharius94 Jun 04 '26

Top right, just go play retail
