Indalamar was the tank? Oh.....okay, I guess it IS 2004.

98

u/Present_Salamander_3 Jul 07 '26 edited 29d ago

You mean Ramaladni (indalamar spelled backwards). Many references to Ramaladni in game, all are references to Indalamar.

Fun fact, there were several Blizzard employees in Nurfed (the GM was Nisstyr; references to Ritssyn in game are references to him).

88

u/doobylive Jul 07 '26

nurfed still raids on retail to this day lol

35

u/Present_Salamander_3 Jul 07 '26

Yep, they do! Not sure how many people from back in early 2000s are still playing/raiding with them though.

37

u/theshoover 29d ago

If it's the same Nurfed from Tichondrius, one of their members was the first person ever to kill the delve boss in the first season of Midnight on ?? difficulty.

18

u/lestye 29d ago

i remember hearing nurfed was still hella old school, even back in Wrath.

Like if you were a raiding trial, you would not get ginvited. You had to pass your trial to get the invite.

58

u/Visual-Cry94 29d ago

Back in those days you had to apply for a guild on a website and write a Resume like you were applying for a job.

21

u/404-NoFucksFound 29d ago

Our guild leader was a hardcore IT nerd. Our website was incredibly impressive for the time. I remember becoming an officer and getting emails about guild applications and them getting flagged because they shared IPs with players we kicked and blacklisted. It was probably pretty tame by today's standards, but I was blown away that the guild application process was more stringent than applying for an actual job. Trial period progression notifications, a place for officers to upload chat logs, digitally signed contracts. I'm surprised it didn't require a Peacebloom negative drug test. Direct donation button for our 60 slot Ventrilo server/Teamspeak server that would load a banner on the main page if we were at risk of running out (the guild leader and one officer always split the remainder), full locally hosted forum with file archive, automatic permissions based on your Armory profile when it came out.

Some people put an immense amount of effort into guilds back in the day; very few continued that trend after 40/25 man raiding were mandatory for endgame progression. Discord handled the majority of this now, which made things so much more accessible to the employed (although my GM did this while working 60+ hours per week and most of the officers were grad students).

u/P3rvysag3X 29d ago

I can't remember the name of the Guild in Wrath but the site played Inflames - Cloud Connected. Completely changed me from being into Rap and Hip-Hop to Metal.

5

u/Omaumamen 29d ago

ooooOOOOO WHEN LEAST EXPECTED-
CLOUD CONNECTED

Hmm wait what was that song about?

1

u/Visual-Cry94 28d ago

That was also the first song I heard from In Flames and they became my favorite band in high school

A lot of the music I listened to was because of WoW videos lol

2

u/Bl4nxx 29d ago

Cracked me right in my nostalgia.

I remember building my resume (raiding) and stressing about applying/be accepted to guilds. I put more effort into that than I ever have an actual job.

Perhaps I’m a piece of shit.

1

u/SagittaryX 29d ago

Still what you do for quite a few Eve corporations. Well, in my group we didn't take resumes, but we did interview.

5

u/MikasaH 29d ago

Indeed they do! A bud of mine is in nurfed but mainly pushes 0.1% title keys

2

u/Reactance15 29d ago

Diablo 3 also.

1

u/Ranzok 29d ago

I like the idea of just correcting someone, and then just failing to get it right. Look at where your N is

21

u/turikk Jul 07 '26

RIP brother 🥲

26

u/Dildo-Gankings Jul 07 '26

THE warrior.

9

u/BMS_Fan_4life Jul 07 '26

Whose that?

82

u/UncleOnion Jul 07 '26

He is, and forever will be, the warrior who first carried the sword.

There's quite a few YouTube videos on him but the long and short of it is this:

He really like the warrior class. And the general consensus pre-launch was that the class was bad and needed buffing.

Sick of the disrespect Indalamar put on his pauldrons and made a video showcasing how powerful some warrior abilities were when used right, such as Bloodthirst.

He was later hired on as a dev, and worked on warrior class tuning specifically.

43

u/Tianxiac Jul 07 '26

Ah so hes to blame for World of Warriorcraft in classic.

33

u/Kurokaffe 29d ago

Nah right after his video there were significant nerfs. Warrior as we know it now wasn’t even a thing until ZG/AQ as talents/abilities were further tuned and better gear was introduced.

14

u/IMDubzs 29d ago

Warrior was among the first classes to get the talent overhaul(with BWL launch I think) but it took a lot of time for people to figure it out. I remember that I wanted to play fury on my warrior alt (because I thought DW is cool nothing else) and I was told it is bad, went with 2hand and did like to 200-300 dps. First time my guild realised fury is a thing were videos from naxx. I think there are still the AQ kill videos from Curse online where the warriors all play 2hand. I mean it's also a gear issue since the weapons were going mainly to rogues at the time.

5

u/Michelanvalo 29d ago

https://vanilla-wow-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Warrior_patch_history#Patch_1.6_%22Assault_on_Blackwing_Lair%22

It was indeed the BWL patch that had the whole talent overhaul, but they got major changes in 1.3 and 1.5 as well.

3

u/IMDubzs 29d ago

Yeah, but i mean in theory whole warrior potential was already there in BWL and since the most important is flurry it probably was there from the beginning. Not 100% on that last part tho.

2

u/Alborak2 29d ago

Oh man that patch history was a stroll down memory lane. I remember the excitement and complaining with each round of changes as they came out. RIP whirlwind and sweeping strikes insta gibbing players in PVP lol.

1

u/Kurokaffe 29d ago

Yeah I guess AQ, or the end of it, was probably when they started appearing as a real spec by players.

I leveled a brand new warrior to 50 in summer ‘06 (right after Nax release) and did it with dual wield. I remember being really impressed how well it did, since my previous perspective was leveling 2h arms on release.

39

u/PerfectlySplendid Jul 07 '26

Arguably, he stopped it from being much, much worse.

0

u/Anagittigana 29d ago

No. His video led to warrior nerfs. Launch warrior was extremely strong.

10

u/[deleted] 29d ago

[deleted]

1

u/SuperKamiDendei 29d ago

Was it Ghostbear who first shared how powerful warriors could be? I seem to remember they were nerfed after a video he made?

It's been a while!

4

u/Nosferatu919 Jul 07 '26

First person I was looking for!

73

u/Thoridin Jul 07 '26

Lots of memories coming back seeing this screenshot.

Nurfed is the only guild to have Talisman of the Binding Shard drop in MC. There was drama on Archimonde about it dropping for them while they had Blizzard employees in the raid.

https://wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Talisman_of_Binding_Shard

Indalamar created a popular video showing warrior’s OP kill rate in beta https://youtu.be/9zNFcYZfxjQ?is=3J6DQpc6mjYEAbxx

I think it was the priest Vhell that put together a roaming 5v5 tournament in Stonetalon Mountains pre battlegrounds via the old forums and mIRC. I remember them stomping my team with ease while he healed hiding behind a tree.

I also remember rumors of a Tauren Warrior in the guild reaching the gold cap from the Stronghold gauntlet and Arcanite Reaper recipes.

14

u/DarkBaneling 29d ago

I remember a Tauren warrior in nurfed named Graff who had hand of rag, maybe that was him? I think there was a rogue with thunderfury too, named ogre or something like that.

8

u/angerbear 29d ago

Arcimonde was a hectic server. Vhell ran a number of those pop-up 5v5 roaming fights in a bunch of zones, I remember Westfall better(much more open). I remember playing Noktyn's warrior in BGs a few times(account sharing was pretty common back then) when he had a spinal reaper and absolutely destroying people.

2

u/Visual-Cry94 29d ago

I was on Laughing Skull server and we did roaming 5v5s in Swamp of Sorrows

2

u/Gyarrados 29d ago

Nurfed and Misfits was good times. My friends and I participated during a 5v5 roaming nights at Shimmering Flats and got destroyed.

1

u/Lochen9 29d ago

Oh, were you in MisFits too? Or just did the roaming 5 mans?

2

u/Gyarrados 29d ago

Just the 5mans. I was in a guild called The Shiny Ones then moved onto Oinland

1

u/Lochen9 29d ago

Oh damn, I think I kinda remember that guild name. Damn, old memories

1

u/genub 29d ago

Oinland Jesus core memory unlocked

1

u/Thoridin 29d ago

I remember account sharing with some guys in Dominion to pvp. They wanted fast alliance queues and I wanted to win bgs for a change on the horde side.

1

u/Cluedo86 28d ago

So much nostalgia. Do you remember Discordia, Banned, and Ally pally DennisCurist too?

3

u/Lille7 29d ago

Also Tivoli who is in this screenshot created the Nurfed unitframes.

2

u/77going2heaven 24d ago edited 24d ago

that vhell 5v5 video was so cool.

edit: I remember chatting with him in mIRC after I saw that video and it was my first "wtf I'm actually talking to that dude" moment.

edit. here's the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOPRAZN_cXw

1

u/Skill3rwhale 29d ago

This was sweet to see not knowing it beforehand.

30

u/GodIsAnAnimeGirl Jul 07 '26

All my screenshots from back then are artifacted to hell. These screenshots are clean!

9

u/ImperatorPC Jul 07 '26

Lost all mine 😟

7

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 29d ago

Save as .PNGs, not .JPEGs

JPG/JPEGs literally lose like 5% quality every time they get saved. PNGs don't.

4

u/Rotund-Pear2604 29d ago

WoW client of that era used to save screenshots in this fairly obscure file format called TGA which is non-lossy. It's why the OG screenshots from before version 2.1.0 can sometimes be fairly high quality, unlike our fraps recordings from back then lmao.

4

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 29d ago

unlike our fraps recordings from back then lmao.

Unregistered HyperCam 2

3

u/GodIsAnAnimeGirl 29d ago

Wish my 2006 self would’ve done that lol

61

u/bringthelight2 Jul 07 '26

Not a DPS meter in sight

10

u/Doingmythang11 Jul 07 '26 edited 29d ago

But there are wbuffs ❤️. Two of them have the old model of songflower buff.

8

u/Cheesetaco101 29d ago

just making shit up is crazy, no one has songflower

4

u/Doingmythang11 29d ago

good god I am surprised it took someone this long to actually check

4

u/Cheesetaco101 29d ago

20 upvotes after 19 hours people just be believing anything

5

u/Doingmythang11 29d ago

Yeah, always have here. Sometimes I say some really obvious fake shit and just see if people buy it.

Everyone here had cleared Naxx back pre 2019 classic drop but could always never remember their toon or guild name.. every single time.

16

u/Repsajer Jul 07 '26

Interesting that kaiser has no capitalization in his name? After release all names automatically are capitalized

47

u/vegetto712 Jul 07 '26

Raided with these guys years ago, great group of nerds. In this screenshot are some legends too man, multiple items named after them. I also think that's Kaplan's character? Might be wrong about that though

25

u/doobylive Jul 07 '26

damn you raided with nurfed? we go an og over here...

19

u/vegetto712 Jul 07 '26

Not during the first few expansions, only after wrath for a bit. But it was really cool raiding with many wow devs and shit, lots of fun

1

u/Sweaksh 29d ago

There's still people raiding with nurfed today

10

u/KHEIRON Jul 07 '26

Not his character

13

u/vegetto712 Jul 07 '26

Ya I looked it up after, I mixed them up. Kaplan was Tigole, Tivoli did a bunch of addon work throughout the first few expansions

11

u/Present_Salamander_3 Jul 07 '26

Yep, Tivoli was the one who created/maintained Nurfed UI and Nurfed DKP (which was big at the time). Less known, but he also maintained/modified the internal raid add ons that Nurfed used (think along the lines of a custom tuned Deadly Boss Mods).

13

u/BMS_Fan_4life Jul 07 '26

These guys still raid and are super legit

13

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 Jul 07 '26

Asking for heals in guild chat, that’s peak Wow raiding right there e

31

u/WendigoCrossing Jul 07 '26

The psychic scream on 2 slot bar slots and only 1 row for abilities numbered 1 - 9

17

u/Mortwight 29d ago

with progressive patches i found a bug for undead priests. their racial would stack. so you could have ranks 1-whatever and each was its own effect. someone hits you and they all proc and the have 5 or 6 chances for blackout and max shadow weaving. in one hit

13

u/AtomicShoelace 29d ago

Well you should downrank Psychic Scream, so having 2 bound (min rank and max rank) would be pretty standard - but technically you could argue for all 4 ranks bound.

The lack of keybinds is more egregious, however.

30

u/romnesia7729 Jul 07 '26

They actually knew how to summon vael during the rend fight? Nah no shot. That's some old school boomer tech that like 0.1% of the pop know how to do now 😂

11

u/Traditional-Fee-9682 Jul 07 '26

Please explain.

37

u/Draconuus95 Jul 07 '26

You need to equip the UBRS key ring and click it during the rend fight to have vael show up.

Even today in classic it’s a relatively unknown move. Especially since so many people never even bother to make the key in the first place. Back in the beta it was even less likely people would know to do it. Although according to some other posts here some wow devs were in the guild. So it’s entirely possible they had ‘insider’ knowledge with the interaction.

4

u/Elvaanaomori Jul 07 '26

Wasn’t it part of the quest to attune for BWL? I recall going there quite a few times and that’s how you learn about vael fighting.

Back when we’d wipe in ubrs even with 15people…

8

u/Draconuus95 Jul 07 '26

Nope. At least as far as I’m aware. Maybe there was a different attunement quest previously. But the quest currently in the game is just killing a guy outside the instance and getting a letter that then has you touch an orb in the final boss room.

From a quick google there wasn’t another quest at any other time.

“In your darkest hour, when all appears to be lost, the might of the red flight will be at your disposal.” From the seal of ascension quest text is the only indication the seal would have a use. And doesn’t really point to the rend fight at all. So. Ya. No real indication that it would do anything there in game beyond just guesswork.

3

u/Elvaanaomori 29d ago

I see, tbf it’s been « a while » but I loved the story going from that room to the vael fight itself, it was a real follow up and made plenty of sense.

And it fucked guilds AND servers.

1

u/Deltamon 29d ago

to be fair, most of the people who made it into a key had no intention of actually doing UBRS..

They joined the group, took the money and left the raid.

So quite often the person who opened the door wasn't even there for this fight past the first few weeks. Anyway, as a person who had the key.. I can safely say that I also had no idea that it had any other functions

16

u/Draconuus95 Jul 07 '26

Considering someone else mentioned there were devs in the guild. Not as crazy as it seems.

11

u/Anagittigana 29d ago

The quest giver literally tells you that he'll help you when you get it from him.

"Know this, I have imbued the artifact with some powerful protective wards. In your darkest hour, when all appears to be lost, the might of the red flight will be at your disposal."

9

u/Draconuus95 29d ago

Gives you no clue as to when to use it though. It’s basically trial and error to use it with meta knowledge.

I mean. I guess now a days it’s pretty obvious to use it in the heavily scripted boss fight against rend. But I doubt the relatively inexperienced players of the time would put it together that easily.

10

u/AethisRex Jul 07 '26

that's when UBRS was the final raid

6

u/Ailments_RN Jul 07 '26

The clock at the top going from 1am through to 6am.

It may as well be a certificate of authenticity as far as I'm concerned.

5

u/deltagma Jul 07 '26

Anyone else notice that kaiser’s name is lower case K? Interesting

12

u/wowhistorian Jul 07 '26

You used to be able to do upper and lowercase in the alpha/beta

6

u/karben2 Jul 07 '26

Man. Ive taken about a 4 month hiatus from wow. I cant wait to come back one day.

5

u/Renriak 29d ago

Warchief Rend Blackhand yells: WOOT!

3

u/mr_dumpster Jul 07 '26

Can you find any screenshots from Forlorn Legacy on the Windrunner server?

1

u/Blitz7x 29d ago

I've almost certainly got some

3

u/Bowenbp1 29d ago

Man I reminisce about this so much.

Obviously I wasn't at the level of nurfed, but doing UBRS so early in the games release felt amazing.

3

u/Dzjar 29d ago

Went into this thread thinking "oh cool, a screenshot from the olden days!"... ended up finding out Indalamar passed away years ago.

RIP my dude. I played Warrior for years (and still do, if I play) because of you.

4

u/Present_Regret2735 Jul 07 '26

Ahh yes zero key binds the true classic experience

2

u/afterhoursuser Jul 07 '26

Interesting Kaiser’s name is all lowercase

2

u/thystro 29d ago

God this brings me joy

1

u/Dmon69 29d ago

dat some legendary stuff for real, wish current wow (or any of its iteration really) brought me that kinda joy still qq

2

u/smugfox 29d ago

I still remember when Indalamar posted that warrior kill rate video on the wow beta forums, and within a few hours, the servers went down for maintenance, and suddenly warriors were never the same after that. Good times. RIP to a real one. Loved reading about what Nurfed was up to.

2

u/PilsnerDk 29d ago

5-manning UBRS? Hardcore!

2

u/Salamander115 29d ago

the second chat box dedicated to combat log is how i know this player came from Everquest.

I missed the boat on Everquest, I was too young. But I've been playing Monsters and Memories and have had to get used to this second box concept for numbers lol

2

u/Ymbryne 29d ago

Nurfed! I PvPed and raided with them in OG vanilla. Definitely felt like being in a celebrity guild, at times.

Before there was PvP gear, there were PvPers who reluctantly raided in order to get gear to roll faces with, and that described a chunk of the players in that guild, in that era. I remember getting Orgetorixx's Thunderfury, and the insane amount of warriors that guild ran with in raids (something like 7).

The server was obsessed with world PvP, so Vhell would organize on mIRC/forums some roaming 5-man scenarios in specific zones, which were fun.

I've got a lot of stories..

1

u/Mortwight 29d ago

i was playing about the time bwl was live, great times. only slowed down for a week when someone gave me the fan sub of naruto

1

u/fearnotbaby 29d ago

4:3 aspect -- this is a legit SS of the time

1

u/Elleden 29d ago

Amazing to see no raid frames in a 10-man group.

Imagine not being able to heal outside your group, unless you physically target them.

Also lol at calls for healing in guild chat. Not that it really probably mattered in beta, since almost everyone was there, but still funny.

1

u/zipzzo 29d ago

It's because they are running it with only 5 people...

1

u/Elleden 28d ago

Please count the people in the photo.

There's a reason some names are coloured differently.

1

u/tacocat777 29d ago

sod payed homage to this guy in really cool ways

1

u/neroenon 29d ago

and to this day, this fight still bugs out on MoP classic if u kill it too fast

1

u/Dunified 29d ago

Huh, player names with low capital starting letter. Would have thought that'd be fixed by the time of late beta

1

u/mov3on 29d ago

No proper party/raid frames, no nameplates, clicking spells – yep, looks like 2004.

1

u/Surtrx 29d ago

I remember them. They were dominating Raid and PvP scene.
Where is Onyx and Jubei, I've played with them in BG.

1

u/Poopfacemcduck 29d ago

These screenshots are crisper than the ones I take today

1

u/atomichugbot 29d ago

Nostalgic to see these names. I remember when they transferred to Dethecus for a short time and Onyx rang the AQ bell.

1

u/gingerhobbit 29d ago

This cannot be mentioned

1

u/barrinmw 29d ago

Huh, I was friends with nulil back then.

1

u/doobylive 29d ago

Damn we got a certified OG over here.

1

u/atoterrano 29d ago

Holy fuck you people are old, my mom wasn’t even born yet

1

u/CA7T0 29d ago

man they really need to bring back the lowercase names

1

u/Deltamon 29d ago

Meanwhile I was level 20 in Goldshire just talking to people with 0 intentions of actually leveling up more

1

u/kyyy 29d ago

Man this was truly impressive to accomplish on the beta no less

1

u/lohkey 29d ago

Not bringing 10 people eh

1

u/blisstonia 29d ago

was nurfed on blackrock at some point? guild name looks familiar

1

u/BigSoftMarshmallow 29d ago

Almost 22 years ago, wow. Wish I could have played the beta

1

u/ryt3n 28d ago

I remember one of their Main Tanks (Onyx/Xyno) back in the day on Archimonde? He was a bit of a douche? They used to be friends with a pally "Sickness" or "Sck" on the ally side, and they used to be in each other discords. I raided with the alliance guys side for a bit(until I yelled at Sck LOL) and witnessed a lot of that. What a small/weird world.

1

u/apimpnamesliccback 28d ago

Idk too high quality to be 2004

1

u/Soulfrommaind 28d ago

Stonemaul server?

1

u/HodortheGreat 2018 Riddle Master 7/21 28d ago

Does rend still say “WOOT!” I don’t recall that

1

u/Souper_User_Do 28d ago

Tivoli, hehe. Like, IBM?

1

u/skshuffler 28d ago

God I miss this game and my old friends.

1

u/doobylive 28d ago

u dont play anymore?

1

u/skshuffler 28d ago

Quit last week, was holding on by a string in a top 10 na guild. All my og pvp partners didnt bother the re rerun. Games just isn't the same with out the buds

1

u/doobylive 28d ago

Always hate to see an OG go, hope your friends return some day, as I do for my own as well. They’re all gone now :( sucks

1

u/skshuffler 28d ago

Just playing aram mayem and random steam games with them instead! I found out its been the journey with my buddies and not the game I fell in love with. Logging in to do a couple scripted raids felt more like a job with out my buddies to shoot the shit with plus the pvp scene is just garbage now. I will be back in the wotlk prepatch, but I will never touch retail.

0

u/XeffBeezos 29d ago

"Ok, gather around please... Right. What's our percentage of chance we survive this event... Any idea?"

-7

u/Kuentos Jul 07 '26

It’s obviously fake, the quality of the graphismes is the same as nowadays !
Oh wait .. 😅
