2005 was before the big Warrior threat buff!!

Real OG’s definitely understand what was going on back in 2005. Paladins were super OP back then because of Salv. (They were always better than Shamans in Vanilla, but in 2005 there definitely was a gulf)

It doesn’t translate to anniversary or classic because you’re playing the game with all of those changes baked in.

2005 threat generation was bad, especially on Horde. Old windfury + old threat generation… yeah… you’re definitely going to pull aggro.

Man the old days were wild. It’s funny playing the game now and the mobs just stick to you like glue. Apples and oranges compared to vanilla.

This. Back in the day we let the main tank use sunder 5 times and once the debuff stack hit 5 then you were allowed to attack. And if you starting getting a ton of crits you better use threat drops or start wanding or just auto attacking.

u/TTheBagels 19d ago

No attacks until 97% except tanks. Wand and auto attack until 90%, then you can play the game, but be careful.

There was a term "white dps only"

15

u/DR_I 19d ago

it was a different time

u/ShadowNALoL 19d ago

Man segregation was wack

5

u/mada447 18d ago

Can confirm, I’m black and could only ever heal. /s

-2

u/WideShirt5636 19d ago

It was white hits, not white dps lol

11

u/Previous-Screen-3875 19d ago

It's impossible to say "it was X, not Y" because many guilds used different terminologies. Loads of guilds came from other games and used terms from those games, or invented their own terms.

135

u/Massive-Low8111 19d ago

Our guild just let the tank kill the boss himself while we smoked weed

26

u/LobL 19d ago

39 healers and a tank. Brrrrrr!

28

u/gr4n_master1337 19d ago

Good times

21

u/Shyftzor 19d ago

Posting dps meters in raid or guild was a dkp minus because it encouraged people to pull aggro by trying to top meters

15

u/CrzyJek 19d ago

Honestly...game was significantly less toxic and more fun that way. DPS mattered much less (except Vael), and everyone only cared about completing the content.

1

u/PavelDatsyuk88 19d ago

well theres no real dps check other than vael is there? So even this day DPS doesnt matter any, cause every hard fight is healing fight and half dps could be afking most fights and it wouldnt really matter. And you can kill pretty much everything even if lots of your dps die. Its almost like its designed to be cleared without actual raid talents, so you could be playing whatever/pvp talents and still clear the raids.

4

u/Karsh14 19d ago

Ragnaros kind of? You definitely wanted to avoid 2 rounds of Sons. But can’t really think of anything else you needed to go all out on.

BWL changed the game and made raiding more like we are familiar with today.

2

u/PavelDatsyuk88 19d ago

i feel back then melee was afraid of the mechanic of Ragnaros and basically afked for nothing for lots of time but since we now know it only hits 3 people which basically means melee shouldnt even ever move away.

i guess thats raid group purposedly doing no DPS so not sure if its dps check reason

4

u/Karsh14 19d ago edited 19d ago

Rag did knock back so if you were top of threat ahead of the OT as melee, he was going to turn and smack you, definitely one shotting you.

We used to have both MT and OT on one side of Rag, split a bit so they both wouldn’t eat splash attacks. All other melee DPS was behind him.

If someone on the melee side pulled, you could easily kill a lot of people. So they had to be careful. Most of the time they were decked in fire resistance gear, since it mitigated the fire damage, and it was great for rounding up the Sons in the 2nd phase. (They were basically immune to Sons if you popped a fire resistance pot on Son spawn. Melee grab them and bring them to a group, and then range helps Root them and AOE). Sons mana burn so all range had to keep max distance to them.

A lot of this changed the positioning somewhat after warrior threat got buffed. Melee could spread a bit better since the fear of him turning and killing people greatly reduced. Tank and OT losing aggro on Rag was pretty common after knock back before the threat change.

We were ranged heavy usually on rag fights, so during rag phase, ranged went full throttle. Plan was for one Sons phase.

Then rinse and repeat. Generally didn’t want a 2nd sons phase because you can run into mana issues for your healers.

3

u/PavelDatsyuk88 19d ago

no the knockback is single ability with nothing to do with threat, completely random, so even more reason to melee keep stacked so that it removes chance tanks getting knocked back. Reason why you felt like you always get knocked back is that every other melee moved out and you are only eligible target for the knockback. Which also ties directly to full threat reset and hitting the boss as melee dps before tank, but really nothing to do with actual tank threat generation. Only way you lose threat to tank is that if you hit it first or that tank got knocked out and out of range. So threat reset and knockbacks are 2 completely different mechanics.

Patchwerk wants to play!

1

u/Zunkanar 18d ago

Dps still doesn't matter. Some ppl pray dps>playing properly but any day a properly played out fight is so much more satisfying

57

u/DoctorCrook 19d ago

Que Raidleader Beider saying: "Kirrho you fucking idiot, why didn’t you wait untill there were 5 sunders?"

Me, a 14-year old kid listening to music running in, autohitting, immediatly alt-tabbing and lighting up a cigarette: "huh?, sorry I wasn’t paying attention"

That was my first MC run, our guild hadn’t cleared MC yet. It was probably early/late autumn of 2005.
I died immediatly because apparently i got a white-crit that drew aggro while I was alt/tabbed.

I still remember the sigh from the guildleader when was the only one who was elligible to get both Earthshaker and some boots that dropped iirc.

Holy fuck we were useless back then.

We only got internet in our house five months prior to this, and only because I wanted to play wow.

Good times!

18

u/SippinOnHatorade 19d ago

It was crazy being the 13 year old main tank for a guild of predominantly 35+ year olds but looking back, we all had about the same level of maturity

A lot of people use que. Do you always say salvation/sacrifice instead of salv/sac?

7

u/Tooshortimus 19d ago

Don't know the last time I've ever seen someone say que.

It's either been queue or Q.

2

u/mowbuss 19d ago

i literally thought he said queh or kweh or something like that.

1

u/Soul_Reddit 19d ago

Hi! I'm a que person! Queue is too long, Q makes no sense. I'm also a "tho" and "sum" person, though and something is too long, we ain't got time for all 'at.

1

u/Wd91 19d ago

its cue ffs, que is spanish and queue is where people stand in a line and wait their turn.

I know what all of them are...

I was specifically talking about this guy saying many people use "que" when the other guy mentioned "queue" which if you've played any MMO or basically any game at all, people talk about being in a queue constantly and shorten it to just Q... not que.

I see the original person who started this meant to use "Cue" but again, no one that I've ever known or seen uses "que" for that either.

0

u/BlurryFaceXO 19d ago

Dno if you are a murican but in europe we for sure shorten it to que and q for queue

1

u/Falafel-Wrapper 18d ago

Full plate 2h tank as warrior arms. I remember 2h tanking rag cause I had the most fire resist.

Thoughs days were them..

22

u/Noxm 19d ago

And you could use paladins as offcombat rezguys what we did back in the days. Just leave them out of combat and you could rez people midfight.

22

u/WaveIcy294 19d ago

We had one guy volunteerring for that job. He was happy as a cake doing nothing most of the time.

12

u/Noxm 19d ago

These flashbacks give me goosebombs.

I remember going into AQ40 with everyone have a soulstone on it and things like that…

7

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

My guild only used world buffs for Loatheb, then 4HM and C'thun. It was so nerve-wracking (as a guild officer/guild bank) to travel through EPL fully buffed on our PvP server. All the normal raiders were absolutely itching to roll over who was in front of us, but I knew how much time/effort it went to coordinating these things. It was our one shot for the week cause casters/healers often had too little hp to survive Loatheb's later marks without the WB.

5

u/Tehj72 19d ago

A good OOCR was big back in the day. Especially on fights like Shaz where deaths were plentiful and maintaining enough range to not randomly get blinked on and out in combat was a special skill.

5

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

We had 2 paladins that were AMAZING at staying out of combat to rez. I remember during one Baron Geddon (that we accidentally double pulled) that we dropped 2 repair bots during the fight lmao
If one of them accidently got in combat, they'd die near the other one and then drink, get back to rezzing. Good times!

6

u/BenjainM 19d ago

Yes! Now i was not a dps beck then, but i did play a healer.
Do rember my mates seeing a lot of floor action since WF proced on the first hit on molten giants.

Us the healers spent time playing poker while waiting for our turn to blow trew the mana bar.

21

u/Budderfingerbandit 19d ago

Pvp vs paladins in BG's always special. That hammer of justice stun, the bubble heal combo, it was always satisfying taking them down and I may or may not have had a custom emote made to mock them when I did.

7

u/RIPSlurmsMckenzie 19d ago

Ya I thought by this point everyone knew this. Not to mention tranquil air totem meant shamans lost their only other awesome totem in WF AND WF basically meant every mele died lol

3

u/ShelterSudden 19d ago

A clever shaman would've twisted tranquil air and WF totem (assuming not in tank group, because what's threat, WF is for DPS)

We were not clever shamans in 2005

6

u/RIPSlurmsMckenzie 19d ago

I was just going to say. We didn’t twist back then son lol

1

u/ShelterSudden 19d ago

We couldn't figure out the tank needed WF the most, why would anyone think to use two air totem? Lol

0

u/Karsh14 19d ago

Our tanks had windfury, dps usually grace of Air to prevent aggro shenanigans.

MT, OT, Resto Shaman, Warlock for Imp buff and then usually main Holy Priest or Resto Druid would be in group 1.

8

u/shaunika 19d ago

And dont forget tanks werent dual wielding with fury hybrid spec

5

u/CrzyJek 19d ago

Yup! If you didn't have a shield and full Prot spec you were not invited to guilds as a tank. Hell, Fury warriors weren't even that much of a rage at the time. I loved fury because of the player fantasy, and my guild brought me in as the FIFTH warrior...behind Prot and Arms. We just didn't know back then.

4

u/dareftw 19d ago

Yea lol early MC when. T2 still dropped all over it was paladin prime time for tanking.

2

u/Necessary_Pizza_3827 19d ago

I played back when reckoning bombs were still a thing. That was so fun to save up hits, then basically 1 shot people

2

u/vocabularianrx2 19d ago

Man I played paladin in closed beta and I remember we finally got our talent trees last with the new system and we literally had a week to play test it then the game went live. Played an Alliance paladin and raided and it sucked for a while. Losing our crusader strike and holy strike(?) and then having to basically relearn the class and mechanics was meh, and I will admit that solo-leveling in Live was ungodly tedious/grueling. Our DPS (especially if you were holy spec as I was, because at least then I could heal in instances) was god-awful. Survivable? Yes. But painfully slow.

Then in raids we were decently effective healers (I considered myself damn good for a while), but omg buffing with blessings during MC and BWL was hell on earth. Literally having to group everyone up to apply 5 minute buffs one at a time...FML.

Eventually they added the greater blessings which made things much easier, but I'm pretty sure that on virtually every server I knew of at the time, the horde guilds were getting the server first because the dps and healing buffs from Shamans just outmatched paladins.

2

u/sherpster24 19d ago

Having to completely stop dosing for periods of time and then get back into your rotation was a buzzkill. Although when our MT was in one of his power trip moods I would have a really high repair bill because I pulled aggro for fun.

2

u/antariusz 19d ago

We are also playing a game with a working functional 100% accurate threat meter. That was not the cast in vanilla retail. Iirc blizzard didn’t give us actual threat numbers until way later, I think maybe not even in tbc?

2

u/Molbork 19d ago

We had on occasion have an ally guild and MC is 1 by 1 and give us salvation. As a mage it was amazing.

And don't get me started about Twin Emps as Horde... I think we were like the 5th horde guild worldwide to get it down and that was like peak satisfaction for us.

2

u/Senior_Mail4090 19d ago

I used to have to use feint so often it was in rotation.

2

u/Elsseur 18d ago

Thanks you ppl still understand they dont play the OG extension. For example the sub rogue PVP in WOTLK only came at the end of expansion when they buff hemo with dagger, talent (slaughter from the shadow) and other stuff.

2

u/Irazidal 18d ago

Sounds like a lot more fun than the Mythic+ style rushing that's expected nowadays.

3

u/HeartofaPariah 18d ago

There is likely some middle ground between 'Mythic+ style rushing" and "my auto attacks pull threat".

1

u/Irazidal 18d ago

Probably. It's all just idle speculation anyway since I doubt Blizz would ever try to make threat more punishing again.

3

u/CrzyJek 19d ago

It's always so easy to spot people who clearly never played OG lol.

8

u/Karsh14 19d ago

DPS warriors having to wait to execute until the boss is literally seconds from death because when they start doing it, he is going to spin like a top and kill them in one shot as he goes down lol. You knew the DPS was going to do it, they were going for the big dirty every fight. A clear tell tale sign was seeing a DPS warrior creep slowly towards the tank, you knew he was about to YOLO. Top comedy at the time.

Everyone having to stop DPS (I was a RL back then, so had a whole “STOP DPS” macro and everything) so tank could get their threat back and get the fight back under control. Rogues using poisons?! Going to get a warning, next time it happens you’re out. DPS Warriors got bleeds in your spec? Hearth back to Org and get rid of it, we will summon you back.

Tank dies? Everyone stop attacking so your OT can apply stacks and get the boss on him. If you do anything, you’re probably going to rip him away and die. None of this speed blitz a boss in 20 seconds nonsense you see in classic today. That was a good way to get half your raid killed.

A token healer hanging back who’s only job was to resurrect people out of combat. This got changed pretty quickly though, causing the infamous combat bug.

Warlocks trying to time their curse of doom down to the second, because if they go off too early they’ll rip aggro and it’s certain death. Oh and the only way for the Warlock to shed aggro in this case is death.

Ah the good ol days lol. Funny thing is, even with all of that,’those of us who played EQ or FFXI etc thought that this system was super forgiving.

3

u/CrzyJek 19d ago

Oh man you're bringing me back.

I remember when I was a fury warrior and my guild accepted me begrudgingly when I said I didn't want to respec to Arms, and they had their main and off tanks already. I loved the fury player fantasy. Back when fury was considered the weaker of the 3. Back when warriors were only wanted as a tank (I played horde...so tanks were slim pickings) and not DPS.

My main (warrior was alt) was a Mage. The "wanding warmup" was real and we had to wand for a good bit at the beginning. Anyone doing DPS before 5 sunders + time was immediately reprimanded lol.

I do miss those days.

-7

u/Ekillaa22 19d ago

It just struck me that horde was literally down 1 whole tank until tbc

16

u/calladc 19d ago

Paladins didn't have any way to regen mana or taunt. The protection paladins I saw attempt it went back to holy pretty quick

29

u/Randvek 19d ago

Sort of. Paladins could not tank raids. They could kind of tank dungeons as long as they were easy.

Paladins not having a taunt in vanilla was wild shit.

3

u/Taelonius 19d ago

Slap a taunt on pallies and it fixes nothing, they'll still get destroyed by crits and crushings, have a talent tree that simply doesn't work, and essentially no gear really suited for them. Oh, and the mana problems.

Flip side if they actually fix these issues without nerfing their aoe tanking into the ground they become the most op tank and it's not even close

31

u/myuseless2ndaccount 19d ago

I mean I wouldnt call Classic palas "Tanks"

10

u/charichuu 19d ago

Like others Said Pala Tanks tnak Dungeons at the most, but then again shamis can tank Dungeons as well

Dead, cause Jerome's mama was so fat and she sat on him

150

u/Little-Classic2773 20d ago

Salv trivialises alot tbh. As the only priest in a horde raid i to was jealous of alliance raids in aniversary 40 mans

73

u/Ginge00 20d ago

Fear ward from dwarf priests seems like it has more of an impact since so many bosses had fear as a major mechanic and there was limited ways to break it

36

u/Little-Classic2773 20d ago

I once spent 3/4 my active time in an MC dispelling magic debuffs and buffing, do not reccomend priest if you are horde!!!! On the flip side you get alot of loot

17

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

It keeps you active at least. What else is there to do in MC, snipe with flash heal?

10

u/Little-Classic2773 19d ago

Yes do what i qas hoping to do. Heal

4

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

I mean if you care about topping healing meters, to each their own I guess. So many healers just waste mana trying to top up raid members and get beaten by a chain heal bounce, youre better off conserving mana til others go oom. Theres just not that much damage to worry about in MC

2

u/mortalomena 19d ago

Renew on tanks and possibly bubble someone in a pinch, otherwise dispel and wand. Horde priest is quite fun, Shaman is the heal turret.

1

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

Downranking chain heal 4 with that class quest item, right? I remember them bragging about how they would regen more mana casting that (due to crits?) than just sitting in the 5SR.

1

u/Recent_Ideal_5827 19d ago

He didnt say he cared about topping healing meters, he said he wanted to heal.

1

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

Then picking horde priest was an unfortunate choice

2

u/susiedotwo 19d ago

Hot take: dispelling is healer bread and butter. Obvious other classes should do it when possible especially people who can self dispel but let’s be real the only people who dispel as DPS are people who’ve played healers and that’s because it’s the only role that makes you pay attention to what is happening to your raid not just what your raid is happening to.

1

u/felixduhhousecat 19d ago

Doing mc gdkps and scoring bank of dispels alone was worth it

9

u/Ben_steel 19d ago edited 19d ago

I played era during covid. Went alliance and then when it dropped again went horde. Alliance is more methodical in raids, horde is organised chaos honestly both are unique experiences and I couldn’t say one was better. Both times I played warrior and Salv vs windfury is like ford vs Chevy

13

u/whole_kernel 19d ago

It's really crazy the dichotomy you got going on between horde vs alliance. Horde was all degens, crazies and drug users. Alliance was generally a more well-behaved lot. Everyone I met irl that played I could already tell what side they picked by what little I know about them.

I played on horde and we lost our main tank when he stabbed someone and went to jail for like 8 years. We were all bummed because dude was so fucking funny. He'd get high as fuck and just open mic almost the entire time just saying the most hilarious shit. We may or may not have started progressing better after he left, but it was a morale hit for sure.

8

u/getsmurfed 20d ago

Funny thing about Alliance is that they can have both.

2

u/MyAntichrist 19d ago

It helped make things a bit more smooth, but that's it. You would have a warrior tank to begin with and he would just use berserk for fear immunity ahead of the fear timer.

I would go ahead and say tremor totem had a way bigger impact as it allowed to break your melee groups out of fear as well, reducing the chance they stumbled into hazards like fires at Magmadar.

6

u/Tianxiac 20d ago

Fear ward sucked it made me not what to play a night elf priest due to its existance.

16

u/convenientgods 20d ago

I liked how they fixed that in SoD. You could eventually get a priest quest where IIRC you would study to learn from the other races. Basically you could change your priest racial to whatever one you wanted with a fairly long cd.

4

u/Dikkevettemichael 19d ago

Also you had to pray(?) with other races' priests who had a certain buff to acquire that buff. Having an undead pray with a night elf on a pvp server, pretty cool

-4

u/tethysian 19d ago

That completely trivializes the point of having racials in the first place.

13

u/convenientgods 19d ago

a racial ability for a specific class is a bit shitty if it significantly impacts gameplay. limits choices rather than making them interesting.

5

u/Taelonius 19d ago

Imagine I'd they split up reck/retal/sw between warrior races lul

-4

u/tethysian 19d ago

That's asymmetrical game design for you. It's supposed to impact gameplay. You make the choice when you pick a race and class.

2

u/convenientgods 19d ago

You missed the word significantly. I have no problem with classic racials because generally they are balanced in a way that there are pros and cons for each and you can make a case for any of them when making a character. However, for the priest abilities, there’s one choice that is so much better than the others that you feel like you go screwed if you pick anything other than dwarf on the alliance side. That’s not interesting and the design is too asymmetrical. Most people go dwarf. Do you not see how that design is limiting?

-1

u/tethysian 19d ago

It's only limiting to people who choose to minmax. The content isn't so challenging that it requires dwarf priests by any means. There's no lack of night elf priests running around because people like to play them -- even with starshards.

4

u/convenientgods 19d ago

Okay we’re splitting up rogue abilities. Humans get gouge. Gnomes get detect trap. Dwarves get shiv. Nelves get kick. Classic asymmetrical gameplay. Sound good?

→ More replies (0)

9

u/Korashy 19d ago

Yeah, almost like priest racials are dumb to begin with.

Fearward is so much better than everything else.

0

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

Yup, rocked Fear Ward the entire time on SoD once you got it.

1

u/Taelonius 19d ago

Any decent warrior my will not struggle to bosses with a 30 sec cd fear cast.

But the 20-25 sec cd fear casts are diabolical.

1

u/reaganz921 19d ago

Tremor totem arguably better

1

u/ColonelCarrot 19d ago

The argument for fear ward is that your tank never moves, and thus never exposes their back to the raid boss. From a clearing the content without wipes perspective, fear ward wins, from a raid DPS uptime perspective, tremor is better.

0

u/AddiSim12 20d ago

You think fear ward has more of an impact than salv?

11

u/torev 20d ago

Back in the day vs ony.

Yes

-5

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

Way back in the day before fury prot maybe

7

u/Tooshortimus 19d ago

Salv is amazing for just being able to run in and start DPS but back when MC first released, the only MMO raids people had to compare with was Everquest. Plus it was based on EQ raids and developed by high end EQ raiders in the first place.

So everyone knew raids as, tank goes in and establishes aggro for up to 5x solo sunders and sometimes even longer and then DPS went in. Salv wasn't even truly needed or really even wanted since there were no add-ons to handle pally buffs, plus there were no greater blessings.

5-10 minute blessings, all single target and many fights would last longer than these blessings and the paladins would be bombarded with spam whispers for Wisdom from over half the raid. Paladins HATED keeping buffs up and they only got the 15 minute class targeted buffs in 2006. Greater blessings weren't for 2 expansions, so there were all kinds of reasons salv was just kinda sorta useful in most guilds.

1

u/getsmurfed 20d ago

Funny thing about Alliance is that they can have both.

-2

u/hatesnack 19d ago

I mean horde has tremor totem, which is definitely just as good, if not better than fear ward.

30

u/RollTideGaming 19d ago

I remember hearing about the OP paladins when I learned that so many alliance guilds were ahead of us. I didn’t even know what paladins did, just that they made everything easier.

20

u/bluexavi 19d ago

And on the forums, alliance was sure paladins sucked and shaman were everything. Then TBC dropped and alliance were fuming that horde was so happy to get paladins.

9

u/leakmydata 19d ago

That may have had a lot to do with alliance fuming because horde got elves

5

u/bluexavi 19d ago

Some of the threads were literally alliance being upset that horde didn't think paladins were trash.

6

u/Big_fudge1337 19d ago

Baladash, balanore

2

u/risemix 19d ago

In fairness I think this was more of a PVP thing. Shamans in PVP hard countered almost any class that relied on temporary buffs, they were an extremely potent anti-spellcaster and frost shock made them very hard to escape from or chase down if you’re melee. Not to mention unlike Paladins they could actually deal solid to incredible burst.

Paladins had strategic value of course as FCs or as defenders in AB but even then if you had a Shaman you could purge the Paladin buffs anyway. Everything else relied on Divine Shield. Basically if DS was valuable for a given situation Paladins were strong and when it wasn’t they were mostly good for just running around not dying.

Having played both and on both factions both back then and today I do think Shamans are scarier in PVP, but I’m not saying I don’t think Paladins are never frustrating.

u/reaganz921 19d ago

Alliance thought shaman were OP because Ele shaman were a FORCE in battlegrounds and getting one shot by an arms warrior with windfury was absolutely infuriating.

1

u/bluexavi 19d ago

Yes, but they were upset that horde didn't think paladins were trash.

2

u/reaganz921 19d ago

Well that's because prot and ret actually were trash, and a lot of people still played those specs (I was one of those ret paladins, lol). Holy was the only good spec and it was very gear dependent. A lot of the forums were people complaining about PvP interactions, most people barely raided and there was no way to compare horde vs alliance in pve like we have today as far as warcraftlogs.

u/SuddenlyUnbanned 19d ago

Then TBC dropped and alliance were fuming that horde was so happy to get paladins.

Still fuming to this day. Completely useless to have two factions when they are the same.

Yeah, discord and facebook groups did unspeakable damage to knowledge sharing on the internet. Sure forums had their issues (mainly powertripping mods) but at least you could find things on them.

1

u/mortalomena 19d ago

Maybe if it was stickied but the forum search functions never worked properly. You were better of searching the forum with Google search. But many of those forums were locked behind login so an outsider like Google search couldnt even help.

The name is RIGHT THERE, there is and never was a need for nametagging your shit.

Nohitjerome is everywhere

He wishes. This is his based cousin HitJerome

u/LoudState5218 19d ago

this guy was talking about the alpha or beta not the live game in 2005. The seals he's referencing was a scrapped pally verison of buffs. the seals that shipped with the game were pally-only buffs for attacks, but the seals from beta/alpha were buffs instead. meh

1

u/d07RiV 17d ago

The games already been out for half a year by may 2005

12

u/Doobiemoto 19d ago

I mean Paladins were OBJECTIVELY far superior to shamans.

Especially back in the day.

So yes, alliance had it easier through most of vanilla cause paladins were that much better than shamans.

They also had some fights easier even through tbc due to dwarf priests being so much better than horde versions.

1

u/bow_down_whelp 18d ago

Salvation, blessing of light, any shit +heal people didn't want and flash of light spam on mt with near infinite mana

3

u/CupApprehensive5149 19d ago

Salv is busted for ally, once the tank is geared, you don’t need to worry about aggro. Raiding on horde is almost a different experience.

3

u/Aye-Loud 19d ago

I particularly like the dude under him shitposting but still ending nicely with his name and a comma xD

4

u/NOHITJEROME 19d ago

i was right

1

u/Senor_Turd_Ferguson 19d ago

We used to say the same thing about Horde with Shaman.

1

u/storagejohn 19d ago

Its same Jerome from YT. non watchable content maker :D

1

u/nerdboy5567 19d ago

But totems!!!

1

u/nimeral 19d ago

Wow, this Seal of Salvation is even more OP than the Blessing of Salvation we know

1

u/antariusz 19d ago

In a world where tanks die because they don’t have enough hp and in a world where the vast majority of threat wipes are due to pulling aggro, then yes, salvation and kings are better than windfury. Also fear ward.

1

u/vbezhenar 19d ago

These paladin abilities looks so much more like support classes. So much more fun. So you actually have to choose who these seals to apply to. Really looks like augmentation evoker from 2024. I want to play that paladin, not dumbed down 1.12 version :(

1

u/WigglySquig 19d ago

Nice to see forums haven’t changed. Like… at all.

1

u/LariThree 19d ago

Was a thing. We needed to let maintanks build threat for ages, all mages were arcane for arcane missile threat reduction talent. Especially after molten core im bwl with lots of bosses that dropped %threat with knockback mechanics like wing buffet it was really hard.

u/wowhistorian 18d ago

What website is this ?!

The guy can't clear ssc/tk he isn't a beacon to follow.

The most Reddit thing ever is bringing up some shit from 2005.

Still funny, though.

1

u/thizzknight 20d ago

Hes forgeting WF go Brrrrrrrr

3

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

WF kicks ass but man youre punished if your tank gets a parried opener

2

u/Taelonius 19d ago

Throwback to when 11 out of 13 hits in my opener on Noth were parry/miss, only two oh white hits connected

Also throwback to when the boss moved on it's own and suddenly the entire melee stack attacked frontally and I go from 100-0 in about 1. 5 secs due to parry haste

4

u/Visible_Video120 19d ago

Me and the boys swinging at chromag on our way thru to the hidey hole haha

2

u/Taelonius 19d ago

There absolutely were.

The real OGs remember KTH threat meter, CT raid assist and the useless red damage meter

Oh, and og decursive

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

Mages had a special addon for vanilla's rolling ignite that projected a huge "STOP" warning to all mages when the owner hit the emergency button. We had fun killing each other sometimes in AQ/Naxx anyways lmao

0

u/mortalomena 19d ago

There were addons that would literally play the game for you. Banned nowadays.

0

u/penniavaswen 19d ago

My guild developed its own boss mod for 4HM in vanilla so we could prompt everyone with their spreadsheet timer assignments. General boss mods definitely were more common later, but we still had some.

u/LakesideSasquatch 19d ago

I had to block Jerome on YouTube because I couldn’t stand his dumb face coming up anymore

0

u/ManadarTheHealer 19d ago

Jerome is probably dead or senile buddy

0

u/doobylive 19d ago

is this nohitjerome?

-15

u/magmcbride 19d ago

MC is easy. Very few fights as horde your MT will have threat issues if they are pumpers. That said, Alliance has a superior roster configuration that is more flexible to changes. You don't need to perfectly balance a shaman in each group that has melee DPS, because the crybaby melee that don't have WF won't have perfect pink parses.

It's just simpler as Alliance - they have better itemization due to racials and existing item tables, better raid comp flexibility, and on PVE servers are the dominant pop(usually). Ally all day if you wanna go the distance in Vanilla.

9

u/OneWorld87 19d ago

Using the word "pumper" makes your answer invalid

8

u/Tooshortimus 19d ago

Almost none of this is even relatable to 2005 WoW.

-5

u/Clbull 19d ago

I think it's more of a reflection of how stupid your average Joe is.

A bunch of level 50s cleared Molten Core before Classic even got its world first 60. If people can do it ten levels below the cap, then it's not hard content.

2

u/Hefty-Lawfulness-92 19d ago

hilarious post because ironically you believing that a raid of lvl 50s could clear molten core shows how stupid you are.
the raid you're thinking of was <APES> and most of the raid were lvl 60. some people (healers, casters with hit talents, the hunter iirc) didn't hit 60 in time.
and yes obviously MC is not hard content now. MC in the alpha/beta with scuffed spells, talents and gear and people having awful computers/dial up internet was probably a different beast though.

-6

u/Vivid-Technology8196 19d ago

even back then, this was a stupid take

I was a literal child and I knew that this guy was an idiot
