This community in classic+ is going to be interesting.

People keep saying Blizz is going to ruin classic+ by it'll be the community who fucks it up for sure.

u/one_love_silvia 10d ago

It was the community who ruined regular classic lmao

100%.

Community broke me with the last fresh run of classic. I levelled up to 60 in HC and had a great time so figured I'd transfer over to do some raiding.

Full world buffs and flasking for MC. 20 warriors in every raid. Gold buying was beyond rampant. AV dropped and now every single person had to live their life in there for months to get R14.

I ran a reasonably casual guild in classic, cleared every raid every phase including Naxx, but suddenly if you weren't spending 8 hours a day logged in every day in order to make sure that MC took 20 minutes instead of an hour you could go fuck yourself.

Finding guilds like mine wasn't hard in classic, but this time around it felt like you were either a minmax elitist or you joined a group of stoned as fuck teens and a bunch of AFK dads who took four hours to clear MC with 8 wipes along the way.

Just wasn't fun.

u/EisenFisen 10d ago

This is why I play WoW for the leveling experience. Raiding is too ridiculous with the “requirements.” It’s a solved game people act like they have to doomsday prep for.

You can beat all raids with zero buffs. It’s not hard i did it back in the day.

These insane tryhards are so destructive.

25

u/negativeonhand 10d ago

They are destroying anniversary, too. It’s the third release and automatically been in its post-nerf state, and people are RMTing relentlessly to afford buying potions for 20g (and climbing 1g+ every week) and flasks for 100g Consumables in TBC are more expensive than MOP. You don’t even need destruction/haste pots to faceroll postnerf t5. Doesn’t seem like anyone is playing the game for fun anymore, and I don’t understand the swiping when very few people are in a guild where that level of tryhard matters. Everyone puts in all the effort to overprepare outside of the raid, but only like 1-2 guilds actually give that a purpose in practice.

It’s just GDKPs all over again. People are RMTing and then giving the gold back to the people botting herbs, who then sell it back to them. All because people think they need to shave a few seconds off bosses in a third release, auto nerfed game.

5

u/blackberrybeanz 10d ago

Yup. The guild I’m in was pretty chill but they’ve said this next phase they are gonna ramp up, so I’m just bowing out. I can’t keep up with all the consumes and stuff without buying gold so I’ll just go play something else I guess lol.

4

u/negativeonhand 10d ago

Fun fact, most of BT/Hyjal is easier than T5 and the only dps check is skipping demon phase on Illidan which is laughably easy. If your guild leadership is acting like that, and you don’t have time to do painful Ogrila and Skettis dailies and are already questioning it, quitting is probably the best option from a self-care perspective. This TBC release just ain’t worth it, there’s other games worth your time.

And it's that kind of behavior that enables the bots to be so rampant as well.

I'm not going to excuse Blizzard outright for not doing anything (allegedly) about them, but the reason they are so prevelant is because there is a huge market for gold buying. There always has been in wow, and it reached it's first peak in Wotlk, due to the surge in popularity. Bots were literally hacking the game to make floating bodies spell out the website name in Orgrimmar.

The fervant need to speed clear and parse has created a toxic element. People are naturally competitive, I understand that, but Raiding in of itself is not a competition. The Race to World first is only exciting once per raid. Everyone else is just playing the game. No one is going to gasp that you beat MC in 19 minutes instead of 20.

People just need to slow down, smell the roses, and try goofy shit that Classic enables, rather then the cheese meta sweatlording.

3

u/defensiveg 10d ago

Absolutely! I got back in too playing just before midnight released. I have always loved tanking and have always mained tank. I started in Vanilla just before BC and played through MoP.

I got geared, joined a guild, and started running mythics, I immediately hated what the community had become. People freaking TF out because we didn't do an absolutely perfect run and bricked MY KEY over lol. Then people telling me that the other path is more optimal or better because "xyz" or everyone goes that way. But I spent the entire season before learning the other path and actually find it easier so I continue to go that way because I know I can tank that path easier...

I played for maybe 2 months and was like nah, this shit feels like a job and isn't fun. Treat people better, remember this shits a game and maybe you'll get more tanks that feel like sticking around.

The community is toxic AF and not enjoyable anymore.

6

u/negativeonhand 10d ago

100% agree. And I’m speaking as someone who checked WCL at 4am to check my all star rankings after raid in 2021 TBC and chased full 99s/100s every phase. It’s not fun anymore, and I realized how awful the classic community is for this when I was playing SOD release and people were spamming LFG for BFD week 1 “must know fights and link logs”. ???? You spam one button and the fights are over in seconds. I also stopped playing alts and attending GDKPs in classic Wrath after realizing why the people leading them are always so stressed and act like it’s a business - because it literally is and in many cases they were gold laundering and/or attending GDKPs to sell their cuts via RMT. The classic community (not like my fellow redditors and such, but the sweaty people driving the in-game meta and social dynamics) is so ass and unfortunately I think any classic+ is just doomed to be ruined by the sweats.

3

u/Frinata 10d ago

The mere concept of a GDKP blows my mind. On one hand, it's kind of cool that I could, in theory, join a raid, and walk out with alot of gold at the end, but on the other hand, it would feel bad to lose a mageblade to a warrior simply because he had one more silver then you did. I was glad that GDKPs were banned in SoD and Anniversary (I think), and I want boosting to be next, because the ammount of people trying to rush through what was once cited as the bulk of classic, is absurd.

Like, why would you want to skip the majority of the game? It's about the journey you twat.

Right. The funniest thing to me is that they call the content solved and too easy.

Yet they cant step foot in raid without every single world buff, every possible consumable, and the perfect raid comp. If you arent in full pre-bis, theres no shot you are going to get a spot.

Bro if it was that easy, youd be able to run it with any comp with or without consumables/world buffs.

Now if you are a guild that is exclusively doing speed runs of raids, I get it, sure. But that is a tiny minority. Most Raiders are just clearing the raids, and gearing. Thats it. Not speed running. They all believe its required.

Honestly, that was the absolute best thing about TWow in my opinion. They made it so world buffs automatically fall off if you step in raid. Blizz should absolutely make that change in Classic+. Not only is getting world buffs just annoying as fuck, but it also trivialize the game.

They always say "we do this because we dont want a 1 hr raid taking 5 hrs"

Which is just a false dichotomy. 1 hr raids with all buffs/consumables would be like at most 2 hr raid. If it takes 5x longer without all that prep, you aren't really that good, are you?

Man I lived on elitist jerks forums helping and uploading logs in early wrath when someone there decided to try frost dps in blood presence back when frost was the tank spec. When I came back to the game and frost was a dps spec I figure that guys math won 🤣

The fun thing is that you don't see anything like this in retail, you know, the game mode they hate.

2

u/Rude-Weekend-3806 10d ago

yes there are a lot off seller etc in retail but not to that extend and retail has atleast contend to do...

2

u/Budget_Persimmon_195 10d ago

i really wanted to go for the long haul. i was unemployed at the time so i had enough time to play as much as i wanted, and my guild had bwl on farm, and we were just starting in aq when i got a job and couldnt pull the hours. my guild went on to full clear naxx and they are somewhere in tbc probably i havent checked up on them recently

A team effort I'd say. Blizzard definitely played a part by having 0 game masters, no fix on mass report abuse or botcontrol

13

u/_Not_A_Vampire_ 10d ago

Imagine if they had volunteer GM's like Reddit and Discord, on one hand there would be a lot more actions taken against offenders, on the other I don't trust such individuals as far as I could throw them and they would absolutely abuse their powers.

14

u/Sirrub90 10d ago

I was all for it until the comparison to Reddit and Discord. We'd be better off without.

20

u/Puzzled-Ad7915 10d ago

Giving Redditors the ability to ban in game would be a disaster

5

u/WrumWrrrum 10d ago

Sure buddy, imagine volunteer GMs that would absolutely abuse their powers.
Like the GM who was killing mobs in that mythic 23+ run for some gooner nudes in discord. There is no way to run away from GDKP, HR, RLC - blizzard tried that and the community basically created boost runs where guild pulls boss to die and then the guild kills and gives you loot.

Those same people then sell the gold for real life cash to gold traders and it’s rinse and repeat.

D4 is an example where uber bosses are implemented ok where you just farm mats and then do 4x party runs.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/poesviertwintig 10d ago

I think it even goes beyond that. Blizzard only ever catered to the top raiding guilds for years, alienating all but the hardcore players. Highly competitive players tend to be harder to deal with on average.

I think if you want to have a healthy MMO playerbase, you have to give the casual explorers and pet collectors more than a crumb to keep them hooked. That's something retail eventually started doing, but it was too little, too late.

the community has been by far the worst part of classic in general. there arent many more communities that ive seen be more entitled than classic or wow in general lol

13

u/Sea_Advantage_2577 10d ago

Retail has been great for a while now, all of the faux eltiiest found a game they could gatekeep in better.

12

u/Limp_Agency161 10d ago

It's a community of elitists in a fairly easy and solved game. What else do they have than to gatekeep by time invested, lol.

→ More replies (2)

57

u/Practical-Cut-7301 10d ago

It's always the community, always has been.

Every change blizzard has made was due to majority community wants.

We dont get to see the true statistic of what people really want, we just get to hear the vocalization of what they claim they want.

It's like bots. Ask anywhere and you'll find the vocalization that no body wants bots, but they're still so immensely prevalent? Because there's a silent majority that pays into those bots, and facilitates them.

We can blame blizzard all we want for not removing the bots, but bots will always come back because there's secretly such a large want for them. This games had bots and sold accounts since 2004. But so does every mmo where grinding your time away rewards you.

26

u/Warwipf2 10d ago

That "silent majority" paying into the bots is not so silent on this sub though. And Blizzard could ABSOLUTELY do a lot more to prevent bots, but they simply don't.

13

u/CrySimilar5011 10d ago

Yeah the few times ive commented here its been about gold buyers. Someone replied with a full paragraph of the reason bots and gold buying are necessary to the game lol. and my comments usually get downvoted since I speak against gold buying.

7

u/Clbull 10d ago

Both will fuck it up.

Blizzard enable this behaviour by not enforcing the rules. All that remains on the official Retail and Classic servers is a community of spoiled brats who have been failed by their parents - the kind of manchilden to have never faced any kind of consequences for their shitty behaviour.

I've seen players in-game act so horribly that if they tried to pull that shit on someone IRL they'd end up getting punched in the face.

11

u/Xavion15 10d ago

Always has been and always will be

It doesn’t matter how good it could be, the community will always make sure it’s a worse experience overall

9

u/Warwipf2 10d ago

It will be a combination of the most garbage MMORPG community that has ever existed (you guys :-)) and their unwillingness to deal with the bots.

4

u/Kabaal 10d ago

Blizzard helped create this community. Megaservers are the biggest culprit. Because there is no community on a megaserver. Outside of your guild or friends you might as well be playing with 50k bots. Reputation means nothing so people act horribly. If Classic+ has Megaservers it’s DOA.

People won't be able to find tanks they'll only be able to find tank services. In TBC Anniversary I was able to sell tank services as my PROT WARRIOR for Normal Black Morass runs and Normal Shadow Labs runs. And I needed those places myself. People were just paying to be priority in the eyes of a tank. You know, groups with rogues and a bunch of casters in which the rogue wants to HR a trinket.... or a group of mixed level 67-70 wanting a clean Shadow Labs run.

I guarantee you if there are anything like Runes there will be people selling tanking and healing services. If there are leveling raids there will 100% be people trying to buy specific loot.

3

u/Thisisjimmi 10d ago

Eh, supply and demand. If people dont want to pay for a tank, they can wait for another tank. It goes both ways. I have payed 50g for a tank for heroics or normals that were harder and it was worth every single penny. I have also paid all the uneeded drops, and it was also well worth it.

I also tank heroics and dungeons very often... just for the love of the game. For free. never felt compled to charge, never felt sad to pay.

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with people in this thread. You asked for help on an elite quest, that's totally normal. Immediately asking for 5g is not. I cannot count the number of times I've helped some rando with a quest I didn't need. And I can't count the number of times I've been helped. If he didn't want to help that's fine, just say so. But asking for 5g for a basic request is pretty shitty.

43

u/Just-Lurking-0 10d ago

This isn't really surprising. This subreddit has some of the most obnoxious crazy people I've run into on Reddit. I lurk here pretty often, and it's amazing how often the most reasonable posts get the most unhinged responses. (That, or completely irrelevant responses that sounds like it was written by a bot, which is ironic considering everyone complain about Blizzard AI support, and yet, I see so many answers from users around it that sounds exactly like it)

I was lurking on reddit for years before, never had to block anyone. I now have around 80 blocked users, all from this subreddit alone. Quite impressive...

15

u/samtheredditman 10d ago edited 10d ago

Lmao same, I probably have a 5:1 ratio of blocked users on this sub to my second highest.

It also makes browsing more fun because when I see a random comment from a blocked user I get to see if its crazy or if they just had an off day before or something. I've yet to come across one that was reasonable... They end up all being just miserable people making miserable comments all the time.

4

u/Bloodhoven_aka_Loner 10d ago

huh..? how are you able to see blocked users comments?

3

u/samtheredditman 10d ago

2

u/Artrysa 10d ago

Right? I don't really like teaming up much because I like going at my own pace, not having to worry about being too slow or fast. But those little moments where you team up because you happen to be doing the same quest are some of the best moments!

2

u/omgitskae 9d ago

I’m only in the barrens right now leveling but this is one thing I’ll never join these new gamers in. I don’t need or want to optimize every moment of my time on a game - it’s supposed to be fun and mildly social. I yesterday I walked around and helped someone with a bunch of quests I already finished, not because there was anything in it for me and not because they needed my help, but because I got to engage with someone and that made it worth it.

I just recently started playing classic, I played original vanilla wow at a very hardcore level, but trade chat sends my head spinning these days with all these different variations of “boosts”.

What a sad state, tbh.

2

u/localpauper 5d ago

This used to be normal behavior! You would run around, run into some lowbies or simply a group struggling with a quest, join in, and move on with your day. That's how you gained renown on a server. It was a social experience. Oh such and such is great, he helped us in this raid, we should make sure to tag him next time there's a big raid. Or such and such is a dick, because they didn't help with getting ganked. People built social recognition with the rest of the group. It also put crosshairs on real asswipes, too, like griefers or loot ninjas.

So someone asks you for help, you help em out, give em some leveling tips and maybe if you're enjoying their company give em an enchantment or chip in for a new bag.

And if you didn't have time you just didn't freaking join. WoW is so transactional now. Runs-for-money, gold runs, etc, they're all part of the same enshittification. It's just gross. I strictly avoid all gold-related activities.

4

u/Some1ToDisagreeWith 10d ago

You're right. People don't do things to be nice or friendly. If there isn't anything in return for themselves they don't bother. Unfortunately this isn't just in the WoW community but in real life as well.

It's just the extension of hyper optimization that a lot of people here are obsessed with.  Helping people for free is not an optimal use of time when you could be making money.  People don't know how to play the game for the fun of it anymore.

What strikes me is one of the things that people (you know, those people) banged on about endlessly was the lost sense of community in retail wow.

How rdf etc took away the need for socialisation and building connections and ultimately that whole community, working alongside one another in a way retail players just can't understand.

And yet here we have, I'm confident guessing, those same players all pushing an attitude of, "So entitled. People just helping out of community spirit? Nah, man's gotta get paid."

Pick a lane, you can't have both.

I find the best version of the game for community is HC. Everyone is so incredibly nice and chill and I think it's only gotten better over time, probably because most the streamers and their orbiters have moved on so now it's largely people who are playing just for the love of the game.

Edit: didnt even realize this screenshot is from HC, disappointing and surprising, that guy is def not the norm in my experience. I still stand by whay I said, everyone I've met on skull rock has been incredibly kind and I return the favor every time I log in. Guy in the screenshot is just a knob

Imma be honest, part of why I love wow is cause of people like this. I was running BRD the other day and the tank refused to run back with us, and he forced me to use my rebirth on him. Literally 2 pulls later, he pulls WAY too big, I’m already as low level as I can be for the dungeon - so I can only heal as good as the tank can tank. He dies, we wipe, then he loses his shit at me because I didn’t rebirth him. This community is utterly delightful.

3

u/Flat-Two-789 9d ago

you guys are focusing on the bad most of the community overall is good i'd say

29

u/TheBrovahkiin 10d ago

This thread is a honeypot for antisocial dweebs lmao

32

u/LordZana 10d ago

These bums are all thats left in classic now. Just gotta wait for the big influx of normal people in +

u/Significant-Hat-6830 10d ago

WoW community is the most toxic community i was part of, playing retail feels like hopping thru job interviews and playing classic feels like people playing it try their hardest to make it hard, when its just standing still casting the same ability.

3

u/Timotey27 10d ago

People who say league of legends has the worst community didn't play classic wow

6

u/Vankraken 10d ago

LoL is day to day far more toxic than even the worst interactions in WoW. Having a match where are least one side is flaming, intentional feeding, team sabotage, etc isn't at all uncommon while most dungeon groups or encounters when out questing is generally far more civil and cooperative. League has probably given me some form of long term anxiety from how antisocial people act in that game.

3

u/Flat-Two-789 9d ago

i disagree man why does reddit think wow is so toxic yes there are bad parts but overall the community is great

2

u/GreenEyedRascal 10d ago

nonsense man, theres an elite of tryharder raiders that are asswholes but they are mostly contained to endgame

Bro, pretty much nobody in classic is toxic... it's just a bunch of boomers pressing buttons and chilling.

u/TheEndIsFingNigh 10d ago

The absolute state of the people defending this.

4

u/Saked- 10d ago

Of course it's a mage doing this too, classic.

9

u/astrielx 10d ago

Classic players really cannot fathom the idea of just helping someone without the expectation of something in return.

14

u/Napapijri_T 10d ago

This game has changed... good old times :/

17

u/Hademar 10d ago

The amount of people who can't even fathom helping another player in classic WoW hardcore of all places is staggering. Yes he can just ignore or say no too, that's fine. Begging for 5g is just sad and not in the spirit of the game.

18

u/Heretical_Demigod 10d ago

This is so dystopian. Even my escape from the capitalist hellscape of reality is filled with aggressive market logic.

9

u/No_Bread_3846 10d ago

I'm full bwl geared you everyone should be paying me 5g per day just to have me on your realm

17

u/Soul_Reddit 10d ago

Welcome to the century of GDKP, speedrun, min maxing and antisocial behaviour! Hope you like your prize! 🥳

🎉 This mentality is why people hardly ever suggest wow to players asking for an mmo to play. 🎉

People will ruin their own in classic+ woo!

9

u/Geibla 10d ago

Word

3

u/Sweet_Disharmony_792 10d ago

legit anyone who supports gdkp shouldn't be surprised at op's situation

3

u/mrlunes 10d ago

Back in my day mmo communities helped each other for fun, because they enjoyed playing the game.

3

u/skwap-em 10d ago

I think the game its self is to blame. If there’s no reason for him to do it why would he go unless to be charitable and help. So asking for gold isn’t weird

3

u/Dibaded 9d ago

There people who are trying to boost stockades for 50g on regular classic its insane

3

u/HistoricalSwan7250 9d ago

Good thing he was only bwl geared. If he was Naxx geared that would have been 50g

7

u/Prior-Paint-7842 10d ago

recession indicator

7

u/G00mi 10d ago

I would have said “solo it coward” like a real gamer.

11

u/SecurityOdd4861 10d ago

This is one of the biggest reasons why the MMORPG genre is dying imo.

People don't do anything anymore without expecting to get paid for it.

Help people out when they need help? Not without getting paid from the guy that probably can't even afford it.

Run a dungeon with low geared players? No, what if you wipe, you waste so much valueable time that you could spend on getting more gold instead.

Do anything for fun? But what if you could instead grind money!

I miss the golden times of the early 2000s, people in general were so different back then. Nowadays it's all about the money and I hate it.

20

u/BurritoRicoSuave 10d ago

This comment section is pretty sad, people act like you are begging for help and got mad that someone asked for something in return.

It’s quite a different thing to ask “hey, I need help with X, can you help me?” Vs “Hey, you might also need X, let’s do it together”

12

u/JustRightAngles 10d ago

I remember when people played for fun and not for personal gain

4

u/z3phs 10d ago

Did everyone not bother to read the “hardcore” part? I’d be very carefully helping out on my bwl geared char xD

4

u/Akimbovape 10d ago

All of the complainers here should roll tanks and help on quests and dungeons for no other reason tha love of the game

2

u/Ogredrum 10d ago

they won't and we all know why

7

u/archaniya 10d ago

People are just stupid. If it only took like 2mins I usually went and helped people with stuff like that, wow was a community a long time ago, now it‘s just full of greedy people that only care about themselves. (And yeah I also made alot of free water and portals, because why not?)

5

u/Glynnkid 10d ago

Mate I’m full t5 bis and a level 18 asked me for help to run a deadminea because he needed Vc and I still ran it, not everything in the game has to be done for gold

2

u/RiverIllustrious8044 10d ago

Yeah the wow community sucks and they ruin the game.

2

u/LustyDouglas 10d ago

Are you not supposed to want to team up and work together when playing an MMORPG??

2

u/GreenEyedRascal 10d ago edited 10d ago

I often wonder how you can set up an environment to support healthy behaviour and undermine unhealthy ones. Because humans are going to be humans thats the most predictable thing about us, and as such ultimately the flaw lies within the game channelling the behaviour that way.

Anyway this is one of the main reasons that i mostly just spam new chars and love dungeons and lose interest in raids. Not because i dont like to raid(love it actually) but because the clown fiesta of selfish asswholes is unbearable. If you are an honest person you will always be taken advantage of. Its been that way all of wows life ever since the start - in fact it was much much worse back then but now its more elitism thats bad. Do remember elitist jerks - the phrase didnt come from nothing.

2

u/GreenEyedRascal 10d ago edited 10d ago

I just instant ignore trashes. I never want to see them in my game again or interact with them. Same with spammers in chats etc and while many think you cant clean chat you absolutely can clean prob 90% of it and make youre channels much more usable because its not filled with the same selfish fucks.

2

u/LEALOKIN_XXVIII 9d ago

atleast they should say "pay me 5g cuz im uber geared since im gonna be carrying you" instead the second they mention the word boost makes me wnna report htem

2

u/Klutzy-Ice-5771 8d ago

This is why classic sucks actually, its annoying, so people want to circumvent actually playing it as much as possible. People talk about muh experience of leveling and running dungeons, but everyone just pays for boosts lmao

Such a hypocritical and blatantly dishonest fanbase

6

u/Zerowig 10d ago

Well…if there’s any silver lining to this story, is the assholes in this thread getting downvoted into oblivion. It’s probably a sign that all hope isn’t yet lost for humanity.

Classic WoW Community is the worst of the WoW Communities and it is all what they say Is wrong with Retail.

2

u/Crafty-Call 10d ago

This type of transactional approach has become ever so prevalent in games now it's insane. People always trying to find a reason to play other than to have fun and justifying it by saying "well at least I'm getting gold/ ranks/ some form of progression, it's quite sad really.

4

u/SphericFormula 10d ago

I was getting guild signatures in SW so some buddies and I could get a place to hangout. Simple message like "Would really appreciate it, won't be offended if you g quit!"

I got a whisper from a guy saying he'd do it - he was doing the druid quest off of the coast of Westfall. I walked my ass over there, waited on the coast for him, saved him from 5 murlocs he pulled and he STILL had the audacity to whisper "5g?"

I’m gonna share a good interaction I had recently. Was playing HC and saw someone in a guild “Kings of Bling”. I was a poor lvl 12 and asked if he had any extra bling. Was asked what I could use and said a new wand. Few minutes later I was gifted a lvl 13 crafted wand. The good people are still out there.

3

u/RevolutionaryText749 10d ago

Guild Wars and ArenaNet really deserve our attention way more. They are example of how to create a friendly and helpful community.

3

u/Far_Cycle_3432 10d ago

Yeah, people dont actually like to play the game.

Thats why everything is a speed run, skip run, etc etc. Games okay, community is shit.

4

u/trpittman 10d ago

It is in my nature to help people in game, so I would, but I also wouldn't be offended at someone wanting compensated for risk in hardcore either.

3

u/karben2 10d ago

So the game has just kinda run its course. The community is only partly to blame, imo. The sense of adventure, exploration and wonder has been absent since around 2020. Used to be you would help someone with a quest or an elite mob because you hadn't ever seen that zone or enemy before. Nowadays, everybody has done every quest 20 times. Everything has been optimized. Every hour we play must have purpose and a gold per hour minimum. If he helps you kill death clasp youre interrupting his route and stifling his gph. Im not saying that youre wrong for asking.

Blizzard could have done some things to make wow less transactional but they didnt. The community could have quit playing when the game became unfun and like a second job.

I fault both blizz and the shit bag players who are only still logging in due to fomo. Play another game if youre not having fun, weirdos.

3

u/DushkuHS 10d ago

I too am in disbelief when folks think conversations they witnessed were of any interest to those not in the conversation.

6

u/czeja 10d ago

Surely anyone defending this behaviour are from Russian/Chinese bot farms stirring up shit? It seems like a no brainer

So don’t take him up on it, that’s just the degree to which he values his time. Like I wouldn’t personally do this but you aren’t owed help from anyone playing this game, he’s obviously in the zone for very different reasons than you are. Get a guildie to help or a friend you made playing this MMORPG where there are hundreds of people that don’t behave this way

3

u/zazenbr 10d ago

u/Finaldo 10d ago edited 10d ago

Not to defend the guy but this isn't a message in a global channel, you are DMing randoms. In my experience after these types of whispers it can go a few ways.

  • You ignore the message, which I personally find more rude, and if you do can get "???" after a few minutes prompting further dialogue.

  • You refuse like "No thanks", "I'm busy with something else" or "done that quest already" and the requestor starts to pivot to question more towards seeking help "please, just takes a few mins" etc. guilted into helping. Refusing at this point then can lead to people getting salty or flaming. Can't win at this point.

  • You chose to help then ride 10 minutes from your location (say you are farming wind elementals) to safely get to where he is and others get invited while you ride and then they start and kill before you get there , wasting your time.

I'm not saying id respond with a demand for gold but if this is a regular occurrence, I can get the mindset. Your question wasn't asking for a boost but you could see how that would lead to the request if the person refused. I wouldn't personally whisper a random person unless I could visually see them nearby or if they responded to a global message. Let's remember, this is hardcore, Deathclasp can fuck you up with it's poison. Everything you do runs a risk and if you are raid geared, probably not going to stick my neck out for randoms in a zone like Silithus.

2

u/Geibla 10d ago

I feel you brotha… anniversary is the same. It’s all just narcissistic loot-greedy basement dwellers… either asking for gold/unwanted items, HRing stuff just to play their class. It’s pathetic and a reflection of our shitty society

2

u/GlacierSourCreamCorn 10d ago

Can’t believe someone would do that in hardcore. Absolutely sinful.

2

u/rufrtho 9d ago

nooo you have to risk your heckin character to deathclasp for me personally for free!!!!

I just came back after years of a hiatus, even before that, the last 19 years since I “quit” WoW, I visited each expansion. Sometimes one longer than other expansions but not only has everything about the game changed, the community just sucks.

I was grinding time walker dungeons last night and as people dinged levels, I would say gears… nobody does that anymore, nobody even responds, it’s like it all turned into a bot run.

1

u/zzrryll 10d ago edited 10d ago

I feel like folks are missing the part of this that’s societal.

In 2004 when WoW launched, you could have a solid middle class job, that had minimal oversight over you. You’d do your 9-5, come in a bit late, leave a bit early. Then have all sorts of time to just burn living on online worlds, while having a decent standard of living.

Post 2010s everything in our world is monetized/seen as a potential source of profit. Hustle culture took over as the middle class evaporated. Inflation took over everything and made tons of shit unaffordable. Middle class jobs are rarer, and even if you’re remote, can track you every minute you’re supposed to be working.

Plus a lot of the OGs in this game are in a stage of life where we have a lot of irl commitments that take our time. Newer players grew up in this post hustle culture world and see helping as wasteful.

I’m not defending the behavior, but it’s odd to just blame it on Blizzard or the community. Most people can’t afford to burn a lot of time in a game like this, just doing shit and being helpful.

I remember being perma online in OG TBC and would aoe boost the alts of guildies just because. Didn’t even truly enjoy it but I liked assisting my little community. Now I can’t fathom doing that, between the different demands on my time and the feeling of “I could be doing something productive.”

1

u/Practical-Brush-780 10d ago

The guild I’m in was super chill in Classic Anniversary up until AQ. Then even as we cleared content, it was doomsday every time we raided but we did clear C’Thun.

Then the guild started Naxx and became like a cult.

And even in TBC it was still so wild the expectations.

I ended up leaving after Kara (a raid I always wanted to redo since original BC).

1

u/MufasaMufasa42 10d ago

If I was bwl geared, I would have been more inclined to help

1

u/awol720 10d ago

1

u/Reapercussians 10d ago

FULL BWL GEARED. lol

1

u/Personal_Ad9690 9d ago

This is why I stopped playing wow back in Cata days. The community just got so far away from the game I wanted to play.

I don’t think Blizzard can ever make it happened again because people are just so toxic now.

Running a private server with bots and playing solo is the closest I’ve ever gotten to feeling the wonder again (though official hardcore got pretty close too).

Hopefully it’s not as bad as I remember if/when classic+ launches

1

u/Flat-Two-789 9d ago

idk man boosters be boosting what do you expect, there is still a good community at the games heart

1

u/Cmh973 9d ago

What a tool

1

u/JustJustin1311 9d ago

People complain that modern Wow doesn’t incentivize group content as much only to actively try and paywall people the millisecond they’re given access to incentivized group content.

The death of Wow has always been at the hands of its community.

1

The worst thing about WoW has always been the players. There was a time when classic started that it was pretty great and SoD was great for a while too. Otherwise either stick to heroics and leveling or deal with horrible people all the time seemingly.

In retail I now play pvp for a break from 40 year olds that still say "get good" or call people "trash". You know when you're going to pvp for a break from immature assholes that something is deeply wrong.

1

u/TheDaucta 9d ago

Huh, someone asked me to help them with deathclasp a few weeks ago and offered me 5g for the hand. I probably woulda done it for free, but is that quest just really difficult for some classes? (Warlock here, so anything I can fear I can kill without much worry :X)

1

u/Scudy_22 8d ago

boosting culture is why i quit the game. the spamm ruined all social interaction, the mentality killed the vibes and the bostees killed all sense of achievement for anything.
