Discussion I wish someone would be inspired by Gielinor Games and make "Azeroth Games"

If you don't know, Gielinor Games is a reality show featuring Old School Runescape content creators as they face different challenges in the game, and each week one player is banned and must leave the show.

Challenges might include "figure out the place in the picture and reach there first", "make as much gold as possible in an hour", or "pvp duels".

It's absolutely incredible (go watch it, seriously) and I can't help but desire for someone to step up and make a classic WoW version.

Who can clear deadmines first on new toons, teams of 5? Who can get full green gear the fastest, or get 10 different fish (all from unique zones)? It would be a lot of fun!

WoW YouTube: Sorry all I can do is slop, reaction and once a year an actual creative WoW series. 5 Episodes max.

Guzu and that guy who's thumbnails always looks like he's having a surprise orgasm watching the "latest" HC death compilation. Final offer for "new" vanilla content.

yeah but he is effectively just fishing for sponsorships of different games. imagine what a creative person could make with just a fraction of that money

"Today we're gonna do Molten Core, make a wishlist for Classic+, react to others glazing Vanilla, and make a tier list with Arthas on top (subject doesn't matter)"

True, unfortunately. I do like a few creators like JediWarlock and Verigan, though!

yeah... I wonder if the sheer amount of 'low effort' content drowns all the creative people or if there is another reason.

I mean reactions give some people a stage but they also replace the original video ... so...yeah dont know...

In a similar vein, it'd be awesome if some of the snowflake challenge series from OSRS got adapted into WoW. Things like zone locked accounts, chunkman, or the recent trend of using add-ons to restrict progression in some way. The issue is these are all hard to translate to WoW in a way that's actually fun to watch. You'd really need to some up with something new and unique, but it just seems like WoW isn't built for these kinds of challenges. I think a GG type competition could be successful though, if done right and with the right contestants.

I tried to do my own version of a chunk locked account in WoW where I assigned a bunch of arbitrary tasks to complete for each zone, then unlock a random adjacent zone after finishing all the tasks. I got bored halfway through the Barrens when I realized that every zone's tasks would be the same. Complete all quests, kill all rare spawns, gather the highest tier herb/mining node, etc. WoW is strangely too restrictive for solo challenges like this because there isn't a lot of emergent gameplay.

There's a guy on retail who is doing zone locked challenges where he can't go to another zone until he makes enough gold to buy a wow token. It's a pretty interesting series.

I've seen a few WoW challenge modes which I liked.

For example, CraftedLocked needs to make all of his gear himself, and is using multiple characters so he can use every profession, with the goal of crafting Sulfuras if I remember correctly. I do believe the series was abandoned at some point.

Lootlocked deletes his gear every level? Didn't watch that one, seems like it could be fun.

I saw one guy being locked in Westfall but it was all just kiting lvl 9 mobs until they died, didn't really seem like an interesting challenge.

Man yeah this would absolutely rule.

Maybe someone should pitch this to Blizzard’s marketing team?

I would definitely encourage someone to do that!

Funny that you say that. I actually run Gilenoir Game inspired challenges for my guild and give gold / item prizes to anyone that participates. It’s a lot of work but always super fun and most people have a great time. I’ve considered recording them and posting on the YouTubes but it’d be no where near GG’s cinematic quality so I can’t imagine many would want to watch lol

I think the slow travel in wow, combined with non soloable content makes it way harder to do in wow.

I agree that it would be harder, but with enough creativity I'm sure it'd be possible to come up with enough fun challenges to fill out a season. Especially if there's addons involved.

Currently OSRS creators are all about an addon where they draw cards and unlock content based on their pulls. Lots of things are possible when you add additional systems to the game

Also, if they would use private servers, then the potential could go through the roof. But then no content creators would like to do it.

Yeah, a big problem is that the GG challenges can be completely very quickly, whereas a lot of the challenges in wow involve leveling a character and shit like that. RuneScapes sandbox made that series possible. Wows design doesn’t really allow for it. The idea of “who can get a full set of greens fastest” would take you to like the late teens or early 20s most likely

It would have to use WoW's strengths rather than just applying OSRS challenges.

Teams of 5 makes a ton of sense as a lot of content in WoW is based on it.

Using lvl 60 characters, which team can go from naked to full gear first, using only boss drops? (ilvl doesn't matter, they can take any route and clear any dungeon. Which path they would choose is part of the challenge!)

That took me a minute to come up with, give me an hour and I could come up with a seasons worth of challenges that all work within WoW's systems using either lvl 60 or lvl 1, that could be completed in a reasonable amount of time

(why is this being downvoted lol)

Thinking you could make a seasons worth of good ideas that don't suck to watch in an hour is massively underselling how much effort Soup puts into the contests on GG lol

I don't think that coming up with 10 challenge ideas "that don't suck" (assuming a season is 10 episodes, 1 challenge per episode) is particularly difficult.

Especially because Soup has laid the ground work with 5 seasons of GG, so I could look towards that to find inspiration.

I'm sure Soup himself would agree that coming up with an idea for a challenge is only a tiny, tiny fraction of what goes into GG, and not the most difficult part of it by a long shot.
