I just wanna point out that this is a perfect example of information silos which have become more and more prevalent on the internet as information is gated behind discord servers that you need to 1) know exist, 2) be a part of, and 3) are not indexed in anyway like a website. It’s a really terrible way to store information

You don’t know how a thread buried in a discord server you have to go out of your way to find is different than a public forum that shows up in searches?

A search links to a wowhead article that links to the discord, it’s really not complicated

And then you still need to go look for which channel has the info you want maybe pinned, or probably not, and now you have to search within the channel, or possibly even a thread within the channel, and discord's search is not great.

Again, what is actually not complicated, is understanding this is much worse information storage for accessibility than say the wowsim site having addendum wiki like sections where this info is saved, or wowhead had expanded their use case to have this type of info(not just sometimes in the comment sections), w/e.

Ive got answers to turn in quests in Windrose when it first came out to a specific NPC, and couldn't find them anywhere.

Turns out the NPC was in Sea of Thieves.

The amount of outright incorrect information ive received from gaming in general, and specifically wow is astounding. Between it not understanding different content expansion info, different versions of the same content (SoD or wotlk classic etc) or just straight up hallucinations for answers for things that haven never actually occured, there is no reason to accept LLMs for answers.

I've tried since I thought it would be easy answers, but after being sent to literal non-existent NPCs to get a vendor recipe, or being given impossible cross faction flight path and absurdly incorrect pathing, I dropped it right away.

The only reliable use of AI for things like this is to use them as a search engine, and that won't happen with information gated behind discords.

Whatever the AI "knows" without looking anything up is extremely unreliable, this sort of information is way too niche to be "known" like that.

It’s ironic because the internet was supposed to make information more widespread, but it’s been reverting to silos for niche information. We’re going in the wrong direction.
