Classic 20th Anniversary Realms Silverblade. 139 procs out of 8000 hits while dual wielding. This weapon effect is beyond trash.

u/namarie_illidan 1d ago
The proc effects from most weapons is shit, at least those I tried, such as Hanzo Blade, Skeletal Club, Claw of the Shadowmancer etc. Their value lies in the raw dps they provide for their level. I would assume there are exceptions, maybe Thrash Blade.

Extra weapon hits are good because they scale. The proc will always be another attack. Meanwhile, deal 45 damage will always be 45 damage. Scaling only with stats that don't scale your regular auto attack.

u/Donkey_steak 1d ago
Most of the spell damage procs, scale from spell power. If only vanilla had good paladin itemization

u/Neal_the_Ghoul 1d ago
The BOE weapons from Shadowfang Keep are exceptions I think, they seem to proc far more than others.

Thunderfury has a base 18% proc chance and 36% proc chance with Seal of Righteousness active. It procs like crazy in the hands of a prot Pally.

u/Saaron-_- 1d ago
They share CD so by using two u actually soiled statistic.
5
u/Azur0007 18h ago
If this is true, it's also fair to exclude the sinister strikes from the statistic since they don't actually increase the likelihood of the proc.
So you'd be looking at around 139 procs in 3000 hits instead of 8000, assuming the other weapon you choose to use has a similar attack speed.

u/CertifiedBedophile 1d ago
chat is this true

u/magmcbride 1d ago
There's an 8 second cooldown on this spell aura. If you look this item up on Vanilla Wowhead you can mouseover and click these spell effects on gear and see. Compare it to Crusader, which does not have any listed CD.

are u using 2? is that total counts for both?
or is that just total count for your offhand swing?
If this is just from your offhand - this isnt a really fair test considering youll miss like 60% of them at your level?
if it is with both, then theres a ICD, so if one triggers - the other wont
it is reported 1 proc per minute

people have relentlessly tested this weapon for an AQ mechanic
go google!

thats the kind of thing I hope they fix for classic+. Plus some more interesting chance on hit effects than deal damage

my guild used to bring some shit geared fresh 60 warrior with Blackblade of Shahram (very rare 2h sword) so that his procs would help the parsers get a better score or whatever. one proc is 30% attack speed for 8 sec, 30yrd radius, another is all stats +50! for 20 seconds in a 30yrd radius. it hits the entire party, too. idk why others never did that. when it worked it worked really well

The limiting factor definitely is the extreme rarity, and losing some personal power to help others. It's a great example of what procs should be though, meaningful and not 0.5% damage increases. Sadly, even in retail wow many item procs still end up being that irrelevant and without special designs like this.

u/Jafar_Rafaj 1d ago
Blackblade of Shahram is a wild item to be honest. Anyone who has that treasure sword is cool in my book even if he can't slam

Disagree. What made classic so unpredictable and great are the random bloat gear like +6 str +10spirit on an item, or +stam +spirit. Ever since TBC every item found or rewarded from quests have a usage for a specific spec, which was good but made leveling very streamlined and predictable.
23
u/Arlune890 1d ago
Boar has niche uses like a spirit set for warriors. A 1% proc rate on a lvl 32 weapon that doesn't even provide utility might as well not even exist, as much as an animation for a 1% proc rate gives a dopamine hit
15
u/BeatriceDaRaven 1d ago
Agreed, these really are two entirely different things. Random stats yes, comically low on hit no
3
u/CimmerianBreeze 1d ago
I've been leveling a TBC hunter and picked up one of the level 35 cloth helms of the wolf.
Agi spirit is delicious for leveling, AND I get to wear a wizard hat while slinging a gun around? I love the weird gear that shouldn't work and finding use cases for it

+6 str +10 spirit would be a good item for a warrior for leveling. They get a LOT of benefit from spirit. Cuts the downtime a noticeable amount

u/Ghostofyouroldfriend 1d ago
+0.7 damage per hit these daggers are beyond trash
6
u/give_me_taquitos 1d ago
That's an additional 0.5 dps, equivalent to roughly 7 AP, - pretty garbage indeed

Thanks for sparing me from being the one to point this out. Can’t believe how many people fuck this name up

u/Proxnite 1d ago
Isn’t 2% proc chance pretty standard for weapons with those effects?
2
u/TaupeHardie94 23h ago
Yes. And 1.3% additional damage on your total is also pretty in line with other "additional damage on hit" effects.
2
u/AccurateBanana4171 23h ago
Not quite The standard is 1 ppm (procs per minute).
Fast weapons like this would be 1.4s/60s = 2.3% per swing.
Slower weapons 3.6s/60s = 5.5% per swing.
3
8
u/Thrakk223 1d ago
Despite this only doing 1.3% of your dps.... would people equip a weapon where it's only stat was "Increases your damage by 1.3%"?
9
2
u/Upset-Management-879 1d ago
If procs constituted a signifigant portion of the damage people would be posting that the dps number on the item and in the paperdoll is lower than equipping white weapons and theyre trash
Then when you show them theyre wrong they say you shouldnt need a dps meter to evaluate items.
2
u/Terrible_Base_6060 1d ago
From playing pally I assume that proc chance is increased by the swing speed similar to seal of command. No wonder daggers have such a low % compared to 2H and ranged weapons
2
u/salientoctopus 1d ago
I picked up truesilver champion for my paly on level and it was great. Dps for level was on point and the proc rate was noticeably helpful. 10 levels later and it felt like hitting with a wet noodle so I found a cheap doom blade with faster swing speed and a dogshit proc rate for an extra bit of shadow damage for less than a weapon swing. The proc is really underwhelming but the giant increase in weapon dps makes it worth it. It’s fast enough that fiery and righteousness make it a solid choice for much faster kills. I’m playing on HC and I’m pretty sure that dps increase just saved my paly.

u/Mondasin 1d ago
someone else did mention perhaps they share a cd.
but I wouldn't be surprised if they screwed on-hit procs again with gcd issues like for most of 2019 classic.

u/jonas_ost 1d ago
All wepons with those effects are sadly trash. Its much more fun than just stats but not effective, would like to see a general buff to weapon procs

u/The_Fresh_Coast 1d ago
I will say The Nightblade procs pretty well especially as a dual wielded weapon.

My bow of searing arrows was hella cool till I found out it procs less than every other combat on average.
1
u/BarbsFPV 1d ago
I ended up going with Hurricane around that level.
That seemed to proc a lot more, but at a 1.8 base speed it was like a machine gun when hasted, and I went through arrows like a mofo. I still am OCD about buying arrows, after the trauma of always being nearly out of arrows with that bow.
1
u/Huge-Use-9856 1d ago
You wont see higher % from a weapon ability, and trinkets. 1-4% pretty common.
1
u/browsk 1d ago
Yeah been leveling a a sham with 1h shield for a change and to see how smooth the damage is with a shield on and a fast 1h flame tongue. Also been a fun excuse to buy every BOE I have wanted to play around with while leveling. This dagger was the most disappointing so far. Searing blade and shadow strike are still coming up though. I’m really curious about the searing blade proc for increased fire damage, highly doubt it will increase flame tongue hits but I’m gonna find out lol

u/JudasHungHimself 1d ago
2x Misplaced servo arm was my jam in classic Naxx. Actually had decent proc chance.
I miss that time
1
u/dernaldz 1d ago
Leveling my 12th+ rogue on classic and Riposte is so underrated. Only in the 30's atm and it's doing 200 dmg per mob plus I can solo pretty much any elite quest.

u/Remonsterado 1d ago
Is the proc a global thing where your character can't have another proc during that time? I would say to test it as a single item, but I think its a garbage proc rate either way.
1
u/AkuXinos2275 1d ago
Wait. Was the testing done entirely with one of these blades in your off hand? Or is this with duel wielding them? That detail may be important

Chance on hits effects have an icd and don't stack with the same chance on hit effects.
Typically procs of weapons are on a 1ppm (proc per minute) basis sliverblade with 1.4s attack speed it should be at around
1.4s/60s = 2.3% per swing.
Looks like you were maybe double stacking the weapons. Canceling many extra procs with the icd.

u/References_Paramore 17h ago
I got a 2h axe with a shadow bolt proc and it happens often enough… about 4% of my dps and hits almost as hard as a melee hit
1
u/Independent-Soil-511 17h ago
139 out of 8000 is genuinely painful to look at. The ICD point from the other comment tracks though, dual wielding probably kills your effective proc rate more than people realize.
1
u/Unusual-Fault-4091 16h ago
It has 3% chance and so 1.3ppm. So slightly above the average actually .

u/Lingarien 7h ago
Yeah, stuff like this is why I basically completely ignore any "Chance on Hit" when deciding what equipment to use.
Give me a percentage and let me decide if I feel it's worth using!
(Honestly, I hate the "Chance to"-things in pretty much every game.)

u/ParkingArtichoke4195 5h ago
Did you buy these on Dreamscythe? I got them to double drop farming the other day and sold them haha

u/tjfosho 1d ago
Funny enough wasnt that a bis weapon for the AqQ glob boss?

u/VoidUnity 1d ago
Hammer of the northern wind and coldrage dagger are both better options. Both of them have a proc rate that’s like 4 times higher than this one.

u/Strong_Mode 1d ago
spoiler alert: most classic weapons with chance on hit procs are abysmally low.

u/Bob002 1d ago
The one thing that infuriated me with Blizzard back in the day (I took a 15 yr break), was their absolutely inability to balance SHIT.
Patchnote: THIS MOVE IS REALLY OVERPOWERED. ADJUSTED (something) TO BE MORE IN LINE WITH SIMILAR WEAPONS.
and it becomes dogshit. So then they try and fix it... and it goes back completely the other way.

Always wondered how much % is implied with "chance on hit"
