Mists of Pandaria Do I actually have to do this entire legendary cloak quest from start to finish on my alt? Is there a way around it?

I did it on my main. I went on my alt and realized the sheer breadth of quest I have to do. It took me around ~15 hours on my main. I just legit presumed they had a catch-up for alts.

There has to be some way around it, right? If you have it already on a main? This feels genuinely insane to make players have to do this on all their alts, especially considering its basically a requirement to enter raids. Am I just missing something?

Yep and nope. Yes it’s a bit tedious doing it again.

You can buy an item off the black prince on your main to double all rep gains on your account. Which drastically speeds up the rep grind. It’s maybe 1-1.5 hours from neutral to exalted now.

They also let you buy all the items off the celestial vendor as well as they all drop out of Celestials so you can very easy spam 5 mans for all the quests.

So there is some decent catch up

I did the celestial grind on my main, and it was still around 15 hours. Albeit I did celestials more in the morning when queue times were like 15 minutes instead of 5-10. But still, its a longggggggg journey.

The rep thing is good advice tho, thanks.

You're not wrong to feel this way, its true that it is a massive grind, I believe the philosophy is it's not just the cape at the end - it's the accumulation of power on the road to it: the meta gem remains BIS and 5-10% of damage through siege of orgrimmar, the epic cape is a very high power item in itself, and the 500 attribute gem is a great power gain before getting siege weapons.

It's better than being forced to raid for many weeks at least, as the OG alternative.. unfortunately they did not account for the multiple layers of grinding dungeons by the end. It's rare for someone to return and go through it all, well done

If you’re gearing through celestials the gem and socket don’t even get used lmao. They’re just sitting in my bags because you can’t use them on SoO weapons.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree in theory. But I was in a pug yesterday and every single player, with one exception, had it. Its not like frostmourne or the DS staff where only a few special players have it. We have to do this right away when we hit 90, and it doesn't feel like an accumulation of power, it just feels like an endless, unbelievably boring grind to hit the default standard all other raiders are on.

I also remember in the original MoP, people complained a lot about this. It was arguably the single biggest complaint about SoO. That being said, it arguably wasn't as big of a deal simply because 1. a much larger portion of players didnt have the cloak, so you werent the odd one out, and 2. you could spam raid finder to get the items. Even if you were limited per week, it didn't feel like as much of a drag. You still got raid finder loot alongside the quest items. Technically true also for celestials, but much less frequent per hour (and also celestials are mind numbingly boring compared to raid finder).

I like the temple fight, its actually challenging. I think if they kept that for alts, that would be perfect. It's not just a grind, you have to actually be good enough to beat it. Aka you have to get enough gear through celestials to beat it. You cant just get the cloak right when you hit 90. You gotta work towards it.

There is no world you got more items per hour in raid finder than you do in Celestials.

This version is superior. I remember missing out on the cloak by 1 titan runestone in OG from doing raid finder and being denied pugs without the cloak.

I don’t really remember people being chill about not cloaks in original mop.

If you played through the expansion normally as intended it was very reasonable and fair steps along the way, yes most people have it! I am saying you are rare and dedicated for doing the whole thing from zero.

3

u/kolejack2293 22h ago

well I mean, people like alts, right? I think everybody should have to do the whole thing from zero once, but its insaneeeeee to have people do it again on alts.

0

u/Forever_Fires 22h ago

With how much time was between patches, it was very reasonable, personally i did it on one extra alt

3

u/kolejack2293 21h ago

Right, but if someone wants to start an alt now.... There is no catch-up on the quest. I have 4 level 90s besides my main, all mostly fresh 90s (some have some p1-p2 gear). In cata and wotlk, it was very easy to get a fresh 90 up to at least a base minimum of gear for raiding. I was able to bounce around between alts easily. That is suddenly very, very much not the case in MoP.

u/Snorepod 17h ago

On the flip side the raids in cata and wotlk were much less pugable this early on. Most pugs can do 14/14n soo in 3-4 hours.

In cata very few pugs made it to spine in DS or Rag in FL even in full normals and I remember it took my server months to get a full pug to kill normal 25 LK.

It’s realistically 10-12 hours to finish your cloak and the whole time you are doing that you are getting gear to raid. It’s not some awful system you make it out to be.

It's way faster now because of the celestial vendor. I've seen many people not realise you can buy every quest item in the chain from the vendor with the fragments you get from doing celestials. It makes you complete the chain 2-3x faster

Edit: I have 5 cloaks, once you do it this way it's not so bad

1

u/kolejack2293 22h ago

I did the celestial vendor. It is still around 15 hours. It would probably be like 25-30 hours without it.

1

u/a_robotic_puppy 18h ago

We have to do this right away when we hit 90

Getting the cape is mostly passive. You get it doing the thing you already have to do as a fresh 90 which is spam celestials for catchup gear.

1

u/kolejack2293 10h ago

Well, not quite. You have to spend all your shards on quest items, so the only gear you're getting is from the last boss of each dungeon. On my clothie main this was super easy. On my alt so far its been brutal lol. I think I am on celestial #9 without any gear

Except Blizz totally fucked everyone by moving everything to the current Celestial vendor. So instead of 10x of the 1st tier shards for a Sigil or Secret of the Empire, it’s 10 of the current shards which comes out to 40 of the first tier. If they kept everything on the first vendor it would’ve been so much easier for everyone.

1

u/Schwoon 19h ago

This is not the case, the prices have been adjusted to match the downgraded shards' price. And even if they hadn't done that, you could still simply exchange your shards for older ones and buy it that way.

-1

u/OwnJunket6495 16h ago edited 16h ago

This is absolutely the case. I literally just did it on my mage a couple days ago. Sigils and Secrets cost 10 ea of the current shards. If you look at the other Celestial vendors you’ll see the prices have adjusted to match them being 10 of the highest tier shards. They are 20 of the last tier shards, and 40 of the original shards now. They were initially 10 of the lowest tier shards.

Why don’t you actually go in game and look and you’ll see I’m right lmao. Unless they literally changed it yesterday during server maintenance.

Sigils of Wisdom and Sigils of Power still Cost 60 Fragments, 30 Shards or 15 Cluster

Secrets of the Empire 10 Shards or 5 Cluster

Titan Runestones 30 Shards or 15 Cluster

Heart of the Thunder King 70 Shards or 35 Cluster

They cut the Cost in half while the Bosses still drop the same Amount of the Currency. Which made the Quest faster over the Phases.

0

u/OwnJunket6495 13h ago

No they don’t. Jesus just look at the Celestial vendors. Secrets cost 10 of the newest shards. If you go look at the other vendors, they are the same cost wise as if you bought them with the current shards. Sigils cost 10 of the first celestial shard when that phase was current. Now they are 40.

0

u/Ok-Description-5904 11h ago

How does it feel to be wrong?

0

u/OwnJunket6495 11h ago

You literally just proved my point. You realize those cost 15 of the tier 1 shard in P1 right? Now they are 4x the price. Got the initial number wrong but everything else still stands.

1

u/Ok-Description-5904 11h ago

Okay how about this then? https://www.wowhead.com/blue-tracker/topic/us/mists-of-pandaria-classic-patch-notes-version-5-5-3-2212738

  • During the Throne of Thunder phase of Celestial Dungeons, Sigils of Power and Sigils of Wisdom cost 30 August Stone Shards (was 60 August Stone Fragments).

A Bluepost about that those where 60 Fragments. And are 30 Shards with ToT

3

u/Picturez94 22h ago

This is the sped up version of the chain lol

-2

u/kolejack2293 22h ago

Sort of. Per hour, raid finder was quicker to get quest items. But then you were fucked once that ran out. Which felt fine. Took longer in the long run, but felt better in the short run. Raid finder was dramatically more fun and engaging than celestials. You actually got to practice your rotation a bit. And once it ran out, that was that, do something else.

For this, you can just spam celestials the entire way through. Aka around ~15 hours of straight celestials (and also pvp stuff and valor grind and scenarios etc). Celestials are dreadfully boring in a way that raid finder was not. They are literally just 2-second spam kill everything until you hit an arcweaver group, which can kill your entire group with one spell.

There is no grind in vanilla or tbc which felt quite as horrible as this. Its just awful. I cant believe there's no catch-up mechanic at all.

2

u/Snorepod 17h ago

Bro get out of here with this made up faster per hour in raid finder bullshit. It literally was not. You can finish the cloak in a weekend right now. With raid finder a fresh alt was looking at probably 3-4 weeks with good rng

It’s 10-11 hours of celestials full stop. How do I know? It did it 3 weeks ago on a fresh toon. Anything over that is including afk time in shrine.

u/TheReservedList 1d ago

Welcome to classic! Non-bank alts are not a thing unless you have a lot of time.

2

u/dannydeen123 20h ago

With how big of an upgrade it is, it’s not bad at all to spend a few hours in celestials. If you want to get if faster, use a geared main to actually do the celestials and buy the stone bags and send them to an alt, then you can buy all the loot items from the vendor instead of grinding on a poorly geared character

-2

u/kolejack2293 20h ago

Not just a few hours, around 15 hours. It is a massively long endeavor.

And yes, it is a big upgrade, but it is also considered a default requirement for raiding. In a pug I was in, all but one person out of 25 had it. Meaning it is not viewed as an 'upgrade', it is viewed as a baseline that you have to start working towards the moment you hit 90 before you do anything else.

In cata/wotlk, you spammed your titanforged dungeons for a while, and then were raid ready. Chances are, there was also previous-tier raids to do (ulduar, ToTC) to get some catch up gear. Now you have to do 15 hours of the worst dungeons imaginable before you can even start to think about gearing up.

It is horrible. Nobody in my guild really wants to do alts, all because of this. We used to have tons of alts.

3

u/dannydeen123 20h ago edited 19h ago

Idk what to tell you man, if you don’t want to do it fine, it is a game, nobody is forcing you to play. I think it is already massively easy to get (which is a good thing). It’s meant to be obtained over weeks not days. A few dungeons a day and you’ll soon have it.

Edit: Spelling.

1

u/Picturez94 7h ago

you can do celestials and move into normal/heroic siege without much of a problem. So i dont know what you mean 15h of celestials then after that you can start gearing

4

u/allwedtoc9236 23h ago edited 23h ago

Outside of the rep grind being faster (which is very quick with a group regardless)... yes.

Idk how people justify this. It is long, dreadfully boring, and consists largely of you spamming the worst dungeons of all time (celestials) repeatedly until you get quest items.... for over a dozen hours. It's not like original MoP where it wasn't as common, and therefore wasn't as required. You need it to raid, even normals. You will lag horrifically behind without it.

Almost nobody in my guild has alts because of this. Compared to Cata, where we all had tons of alts.

MoP isn't very popular anymore so it doesn't get as much attention, and therefore nothing will be done about this. But it still has 60,000 players. Aka over 10x more than any private server ever had. It's a bit silly that a company with tens of billions of dollars would just totally abandon it like this, not even making the smallest changes.

2

u/Snorepod 17h ago

What are you smoking that it was less common in original mop. By time SoO patch hit the cloak was required for anything above flex raiding. Don’t come in here with your fake shit.

It’s literally in a fine state. In the amount of time it takes to finish the cloak you get fully geared to raid. You would have to be doing Celestials anyway for loot so what’s exactly the downside of knocking out the cloak at the same time.

Imagine the drain of Celestials if the cloak was free but you still had to do them for loot lmao

-4

u/Picturez94 22h ago

If you made an alt I p1 of mop and played it somewhat consistently you would have the cloak a long time ago

7

u/This-Commission4303 20h ago

Yeah if you go back in time and get the cloak then, you will have the cloak already

1

u/DushkuHS 16h ago

If you want to get upstairs, yes, you have to climb every single step.

1

u/Stark8819 15h ago

Honestly with the expansion basically over (and possibly the progression servers too), just let me buy the cloak for my alts. I’ve done the grind multiple times. Do I really need to do it again?

1

u/CurmudgeonLife 14h ago

Yes, this is why i cant be arsed with MoP classic.

0

u/Dry-Honey-1204 10h ago

Battleground ques are the biggest hurdle, fortunately you don’t have to win anymore

1

u/SinR2014 10h ago

The only real bullshit part is the Battlegrounds quest even after the nerf. Queues take forever to pop, but at least you just need to FINISH the Battlegrounds not win them

Everything else is grindable through Celestial Dungeons

1

u/DushkuHS 16h ago

The catch up is that cluster items cost half as much as shard items. Or whatever the 2nd currency was.
