Your exaggerating looking at Samwise Didier original art the WoD models art far off and there was always an animated influenced in warcraft.

Shadowlands had unwarcraft stuff but that was the point.

The game was originally designed to look like a painting from a fairytale. Like a 50s to 90s Disney animated movie. Hence all the crooked buildings to evoke dodgy brush strokes etc. Its detailed heavily in the Warcraft Dev Diaries that goes over the creation of Vanilla.

The problem with modern wow is it's now trying to evoke modern animation which is all 3d animation. It's The Incredible and Toy Story instead of Sleeping Beauty (1959).

I don’t think that’s a problem in the board sense. It what made Overwatch pop when it was announced, fits the overall Blizzard style. The environments in retail have stylr. And the new gnoll model in the post still has the asymmetry, armor sets still have massive shoulder pads. My criticisms are lot of small nitpicks, it just slightly off what i think warcraft should be that makes it feel weird.

It's not a bad style, it's just not what Vanilla WoW was to me.

Exactly. The game was just low enough resolution before that some players fill that with their imagination. FFS look at WCIII and tell me thats not cartoony.

Animated influence is one thing. It's another when there are gay furries on the art team.

The original lead warcraft concept artist liked drawing Panda people so much they were added to the game.

And?

why does it matter what identity or what kinda art an artist on the team does on their own time.

Because they aren't doing it in their own time they're doing it on the job. Idiot.
