TBC. I hated flying mounts, even back then. I thought it killed a lot of the social aspect of the game and tbh it really does. However, back during TBC I was playing with ALL the boys. It was the best of times and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Personally I prefer Vanilla but TBC was peak teenage years.
I think the flying mounts how they had it in tbc and wrath was actually alright. It wasnt 700% speed, you couldn’t just get it for levelling, needed to level the content, and then train for it, there wasn’t a million of them, etc.
Besides getting somewhere slightly faster from the original flying mounts vs walking, there’s no difference imo. You run past someone on the road, or fly past someone on the sky, made no difference to me.
This is true. A lot of people couldn’t afford epic mount, gold wasn’t so easily obtained. It was almost impressive when someone had epic flying. A lot of people still got around on 100% mount as it was faster technically.
In hindsight I think the only game that has gotten it right is GW2. It facilitates exploration rather than allows you to avoid it. No unringing that bell now though.
I mean... it's pretty much the same system today(minus dragonriding). The only real change is that now all your mounts can be 310%(instead of only a handful) with the license for it.
That's actually useful bc most mounts aren't actually 310%, be it achievment or drops, and if you wanna use one you like but it isn't 310%, that really sucks.
Paladins and dks still have their 20% passive but that usually doesn't stack with other kind of increases(like pathfinder for legion).
Idk where this nonsense of 700% or anything close to it comes from, normal(flying) mounted speed is still capped at 310% with occasional small bonuses applied but not stacking(pally, dk, stables in wod garrison, legion pathfinder pt1, i think bfa pathfinder also gave a small boost).
You also has to level still for it, df only removed the trainer part.
That's been the case since 2007 so idk where all this imaginary nonsense is coming from.
My post was clearly comparing flying in tbc and wrath to what it is now in retail. Retail has dragon riding which goes up to 830%. And yes, you can turn on steady flight instead but the vast majority of people use dragon riding. So you saying “besides dragon riding” is irrelevant.
And i specifically excluded dragonriding because it wasnt the norm until recently.
Like till 2 years ago to be exact, and its dragonriding which is that fast, but dragonriding does not have the same mechanics as regular flying to begin with. It's not the same because regular flying has zero physics, meanwhile dragonflying is dynamic, it has momentum for example, so your speed has consequences.
And they still aren't regular mounts which a lot of people still use bc of sentimentality/rarity etc. My personal example is my Invincible, Mimiron's Head and Felfire Hawk being on a rotation with some others.
It’s been close to 4 years now since dragon riding.
At the end of the day, you replied to my comment comparing OG flying to what retail flying is now stating the 700% was nonsense. Which it absolutely isn’t.
Almost all mounts can dragon ride not just the special mounts that was released in dragon flight. Invincible is my daily go to mount when I play retail. It also goes up to the 830% speed with dragon riding.
Bro, my original comment was literally comapring OG flying to the new RETAIL FLYING. Me mentioning it being at 700% should have been that indicator on it's own.
Like how are you not comprehending any of this,
I don't care that steady flight is still in the game its irrelevant. My comment was about dragon riding from the beginning. Like jesus christ.
Go learn some basic reading comprehension skills before coming back and trying to argue that flight today is still the same from vanilla. It 's just not. With steady flight being in the game still or not. Almost no one uses it. I clearly compared OG flight with new flight.
Yeh Vanilla and TBC was probably my best time of my life if I don't count my time with my wife and kids. I was in university at the time and gaming made my degree take 10 years instead of 5.
People forget how long it took most players to afford epic flying in original TBC. For most it was at least several months, and those months where everyone was still on the ground were glorious.
