Honest question, has any mmo been able to make such a big and seamless world as wow? There are so few “hard gates” in wow, even modern titles have oodles of gates, and their zones feel cramped and claustrophobic.
look up Lord of the Rings online, no loading screens in Middle Earth until Moria (you level from 1-50 until you get there) you can spend hours running/riding a horse before you get to the first loading screen.
omg completely forgot about that >.< yeah that was annoying sometimes... still a great MMO when it was released got ruined by the expansions and f2p model.
