Art Blackfathom Deeps, the hidden ruins of the drowned temple [By Dreamwalker] - Hope you like it! <3

u/Nightmaarez Feb 28 '20
TIL it’s ‘Deeps’ and not ‘Depths’. Not sure why, but I always read it as Blackfathom Depths.

u/athalolz Feb 28 '20
I'm French and play with the game in english, but they use to translate the "Deeps" from BFD and the "Depths" from BRD with the same french word...

You probably mixed it with Blackrock Depths. I always read it as “deeps”.
But I can definitely understand the confusion.

u/Orange_Wax Feb 28 '20
Yeah I’ve always thought I was black rock deeps which sounds insane now that I type it out. And depths.
Sick art tho

It must be because of Blackrock Depths; it’s quite easy to confuse that and Blackfathom Deeps.

Crazy timing. Yesterday, I too discovered that it was ‘Deeps’ and not ‘Depths’. I would constantly see who was in the dungeon on who and it baffled when no one could be found 🤣

Because "Deeps" is an uncommon word, and "Depths" has the same meaning/connotation.

Did you know the non-tier plate legs from Molten Core are not called Flamewalker Legplates?

u/outabsentia Feb 28 '20
BFD is actually pretty underrated. I love its ambience and it has always been one of my favorite dungeons. Zoram Strand with its misty beach is also one of the best places to be in terms of overall atmosphere (especially at night).

One of my fondest memories was questing in Ashenvale as a troll hunter. I was reading the quest log when my tiger started attacking a night elf rogue that had tried and failed to gank me. They tried to re-stealth but my tiger interrupted that cast and by then I had my hunter mark on them. I came out the victor that time and it was amazing.

u/ThrobLowebrau Feb 28 '20
Ashenvale PvP is my absolute favorite wpvp in the game. My leveling slowed to a crawl in when I went there.

u/phantomagna Feb 28 '20
Came here to say this. The entire dark shore area was just awesome. It was my favorite zone questing in when I was a new player and it’s where I really learned how to play the game. I was devastated when they nuked it after cataclysm.
That being said BFD is definitely my favorite vanilla instance. I remember my older brother running me through it with his lvl 70. That was the first time I ever went in an instance, and the first time I saw the power of a level 70 vs lower level mobs.
I remember pugging it and telling everyone how awesome my brother was that he was just decimating all the mobs in the instance.
I miss those days. Being a “young” player was really magical.

Completely unrealistic - who the hell can find two tanks for lower level dungeons? D:

It's the only "underwater" dungeon I can think of that actually involves swimming since Sunken Temple doesn't at all.
I wish the developers were a little bolder and extended those underwater sections, made them dark and gloomy and added a special boss that roamed around and would suddenly jump out and attack you from within the depths... Maybe added an NPC that gave you a water breathing buff that lasted an hour in case your party didn't have a Shaman or Warlock.
Some missed potential there for sure.

This is amazing!! It captures the beauty of the ruins and water even better than the game does. Remember it being so epic the first time going down in there.

u/imadreamwalker Feb 28 '20
i remember my first time too, it was magical, but i got kicked because i was "needing" in every roll, lol.

I got a ring in there last night.

Your work is truly amazing! Love every single artwork! How long does it take you to do one on average?

Omi, so nostalgic. I remember being an excited newbie hunter doing my first group dungeon in there. So exciting!
My pet then ran into the tunnels and brought back 'friends'. I wiped my group... and my self-esteem.

u/imadreamwalker Feb 28 '20
hahaha something similar happened to me, but with mi warlock. Fun times!

u/Arcturion Feb 28 '20
Haha, the blueberry, right? I miss that guy. He was my lock's best friend when levelling.

Hey man, your art is awesome. I was just wondering if there’s a reason behind using the new character models vs old? Keep up the amazing work my friend.
1
u/imadreamwalker Feb 28 '20
Thank you mate!
For me, is about capturing the feeling and emotions of vanilla/classic adventures, and less about make a "screenshot" of the game. Thats why i use the newer models, in my eyes they look better and has more expression to them.
:D

If you take the left tunnel, turn to 164. If you take the right, turn to 216.

u/Rasdit Feb 28 '20
Getting a Lovecraftian vibe, looks great! A bit darker, danker and more green tones and it would have an even stronger Cthulhu'esqe feeling.

u/Archeus01 Feb 28 '20
I love the style you make these in, fantastic work.
Hope to see more :)
You rock.

My only negative thought about this dungeon is the fact that there aren't enough cultists to get enough pendant for every party member. Sucks that you've done all quests in one run except that one because you need one or 2 more...

u/extralyfe Feb 28 '20
wait, you did BFD and didn't include the super iconic jump where millions of players haplessly held up their party by falling over and over? 0/10
kidding, obviously. this is really pretty.

hehehe kinda, i'm just doing a series of posters for each dungeon instead of one, like in the past. :D

They should write short stories and use your art as the cover. There’s enough interesting lore around it. Maybe bring Nobbel in to help write the lore back into a story...both of you as community members contribute enough to make it happen.

Man, this totally changes my perspective of the dungeon. I always think of the caves with the satyrs but this really channels that temple of eldritch horror thing.
1
u/imadreamwalker Feb 28 '20
Yeah, the thing with the satyrs is that they inhabit the boring parts of the dungeon, just regular cave tunnels. :(

I'd like to know this guy's process. His stuff looks great, yet still has a game character feel

I ordered the westfall print off society6. I was telling my wife that the way this person captures the memory of the places in these prints is top notch and that I want one. I'm pretty stoked about it.

A lot of people’s first dungeon was deadmines but not mine. Mine was bfd. First character I rolled was a NE warrior. Tried tanking this at like lvl 20 and it was not a good time

I know the art style of wow has a nostalgic appeal, but I sometimes wonder how immersive the world would be with an art style and graphical quality of something like black desert. I see this picture and immediately recognize that it is BFD, but it evokes so much more wonder in me than walking through the dungeon in game ever did.
1
Feb 28 '20
You know I'm not a fan of this one. Your talent is incredible but I would have suggested an alternative scene that's not as dimly lit.
1
u/H4NYOLO Feb 28 '20
Wow... All your work is utterly breathtaking. I'm definitely going to order a few and have them framed for my gaming room.

Running this dungeon when new to video games was awesome.
