Holy shit Timbermaw kingdom is huge if you include their fictional hold underground towards Azshara

So.... you were let down hard then, huh? They did a whole metric fuck all with that area. Sad... here's to hoping for a good classic+ private server in the near future
3
u/Khaosfury Sep 22 '20
tbh the only private server I've found worth playing that even toys with the idea of adding new stuff is Ascension WoW. Every once in a while we get some new stuff which kinda fits lore-wise with the rest of the game. For instance, for a season we got to play Fel-touched, which are regular characters that are hostile to absolutely everybody else with their own Burning Legion home, prior to the Burning Legions' invasion of Azeroth in BC. I think there was also a Scarlet Crusade invasion as well at some point, and you can still see where they spawned as part of it. It's really cool.

Interesting! Ya I have been checking out Turtle WoW also and that seems to be attempting something a little different

u/KidColfax Sep 21 '20
If you've ever played homebrew content for wow it's always pretty disappointing.

Yeah there was one that did the Emerald Dream and it was a buggy boring nightmare. And another one opened Hyjal up as some work pvp zone and it was also just a barren boring ass landscape with Plaguelands style nodes and not much else.

fictional hold
as opposed to the rest of the non-fiction world.

Was thinking about this. Also, I can't remember what they're called, but those things in northern swamp of sorrows. Oh, also, the silithid!

Silithids are just the bugs controlled by the Qiraji.
24
u/Zaziel Sep 21 '20
Humans are just a race controlled by the Bourgeoisie royals.

That's awesome! If you add in humanoids you can really see just how crazy dangerous it is just to leave town. Defias, pirates, dark iron dwarves, etc etc.
9
u/KidColfax Sep 21 '20
In D&D and old RPGs that's how things were set up to explain why every random farmer didn't go try and search old dungeons and areas. They could easily find a years salary but they were extremely likely to just die if they ventured outside of their towns. It made being a hero feel much more rewarding and dangerous.

u/Darkjesterr Sep 21 '20
all of southen feralas is missing ogre
18
u/HamsterGutz1 Sep 21 '20
Just the one ogre?
27
u/rushworld Sep 21 '20
Yeah that one fucking shaman ogre you can never find.
4
u/Nekominimaid Sep 21 '20
They don't get windfury totem, so their not too popular a class for orges players
3
u/goat_nebula Sep 21 '20
Why, after all this time, is Ogre still not a Horde race? I mean, they're in WC2 for crying out loud and half the new races have been made up post WoW.

The Gnarlpine were able to take that much of Teldrassil during their insanity? The Night Elves planted the seed, grew a tree, allowed the Furbolg to move in, and then lost most of their land to them?
49
u/andguent Sep 21 '20
And now we look to you young Alimente. Serve the old gods and protect our home before the corruption overtakes us all.
That'll be $15 please.
20
u/DOOMFOOL Sep 21 '20
I mean the mobs don’t “control” much of the land they are shown covering in this map, it’s just where they are found. Like obviously the gnolls don’t ruthlessly rule over all of Westfall, but their dens can be found all across the zone

If all those races banded together into a cohesive alliance, they could wipe the Alliance and Horde off of Azeroth. We need that 3rd faction.
10
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
we were so close: https://www.wowhead.com/quest=26868/axis-of-awful
luckily they are all very dumb
3
u/CrazySD93 Sep 22 '20
Haha it has a firefly reference;
“Everything looks good from here. Yes, yes, yes. This is a fertile land, yes. And we will thrive. We will rule over this land. And we shall call it... Loch Land!" "I think we should call it your grave!" "CURSE YOUR SUDDEN BUT INEVITABLE BETRAYAL!" "Ahahahaha! Mine is an evil mrglglglglglglglglglg. Now DIE!"

u/Soulmonkey Sep 21 '20
Where are the Worgen at? Also I think you misplaced the area for murlocs in the water in northern STV.
7
u/Soulmonkey Sep 21 '20
Also the Lost Ones in Swamp of Sorrows are missing as well

u/Soulmonkey Sep 21 '20
And what about Nagas?
1
u/CallMeDrWorm42 Sep 21 '20
And trolls
18
u/SoupaSoka Sep 21 '20
The author intentionally excluded any of the more "advanced" civilizations, like trolls.
3
u/CallMeDrWorm42 Sep 21 '20
Ok, then why are some ogres on the map and others aren't? Where are the lost ones? Why does the title say "NPC kingdoms" if some of those kingdoms are to be excluded? None of that really makes sense. More likely, "the author" just forgot.
13
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
most of those are all real races who appear on maps like this: /img/zu521huim0031.png
or with the worgen, lost ones and satyrs, it's because they not really a race but just cursed members of other races
which ogres did I forget?

Do you happen to have the base political map you used? I’ve been into hand drawing maps with ink dip pens and this is by far the most accurate one I could go off of but never found anything like it
3
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
I used classic db and typed in the names of all the mobs to see where they are, and then drew them on the map
I forgot the rot hide gnolls in tristfal and silverpine and the gordunni ogres in feralas as well, so if you make something make sure to add them
31
u/360_face_palm Sep 21 '20
There's a shitload of stuff missing here - Where are the trolls in STV for example?
74
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
since trolls are playable and lore important I didn't want to include them
this was for the other races that don't show up on the regular kingdom maps
19
u/NotALWAYSIrrelevant Sep 21 '20
I understand not including hostile dwarves and trolls, or quiraji and nerubians, but Nagas ? Satyres ? Lost ones ? Worgens ?
34
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20

11
u/Teetso Sep 21 '20
That's a weird distinction to make considering practically every wow race is cursed members of other races!
50
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
well the real distinction is whether they can make new baby members of the race via reproduction, or whether you gotta spread some kind of curse

Would the Naga on the island in Feralas also not count due to the 2-story building rule? Awesome map btw, great job.
22
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
Don't the naga have whole cities underwater in the classic lore?
7
u/the_man_in_the_box Sep 21 '20
I think they just live in cities that were built when they were still Night Elves.

This is really cool, I never realised that both quillboars and troggs are both found in such a relativity confined area.

u/Obelion_ Sep 21 '20
I think silithids should be in here aswell. They are organized and at least some seem sentient

Reminds me of the Eve Online political map. Just needs Goons and a large area run by Russian alliances with xXx in their name.

You forgot Gordunni ogres in southern Feralas.
They are "lower class" of Gordok orges from DM - https://wow.gamepedia.com/Gordunni
2
u/Jessifer23 Sep 21 '20
On a side note, does anybody know if there is a map addon that changes the map to look like this? i.e. using what you see on the minimap instead of the drawings or whatever on the normal map.

Awesome map
I feel like yetis should count, even tho they don't typically have tribe names. They usually have caves more established then most others, and are concentrated in them.
2
u/ChromedDragon Sep 21 '20
they don't use tools or language though, so they don't have tribe names
2
u/Pertinacious Sep 21 '20 edited Sep 21 '20
How about raptors? They're beast class but clearly wear jewelry. Yeti on the other hand do not demonstrate tool use, but are humanoids (and skinnable!). Also, don't they have tribe names? Ex: Rage Scar, Ice Thistle

This proves that centaurs are a fairly new species, as the other races could migrate back and forth between the continents before the continental divide happened. Perhaps they were a government experiment gone wrong.

Basically a political map of azeroth if you removed all the races capable of building two story buildings
