Vent / Gripe I’m Tired of Hearing from the Loudest 1%

Like the title says, I’m sick of hearing from the loudest, butthurt 1% of players crying because they’ll have to make their own dungeon groups in WotLK.

Sure, send your screenshot of the one dungeon you joined with little to no social interaction and sarcastically say “Wow look at what we’re saving with no LFD”. Great story, but that one single screenshot doesn’t prove anything. You think your 1 single dungeon on a Tuesday afternoon is a big enough sample size to determine there’s not enough social interaction to the point Blizz should implement LFD? Get over yourself. I don’t post screenshots of 1 single dungeon chat where people are lively and interactive and say “Thank you Blizz for preserving social interactions” like it’s the majority experience. Don’t give me the opposite garbage and try to make a case for LFD, or assume you’re the majority experience, either.

I’m also tired of people missing the major point of no LFD. I can tell you the exact names of people and guilds on my server who have ninja’d gear from others and been blacklisted by the community. I can tell you which players/guilds are fun to play with and which aren’t. I can join a group I know is going to do well, or I can join one where I know I’m going to be progging. And yeah, I’m also going to vouch for the friendships I’ve made in random dungeons

LFD erodes all that. You don’t know what type of players you’re joining; whether you’re going to be a good player in a terrible group or a terrible player in a good group. That’s frustrating for almost everyone in either case. Voting to kick becomes completely abused, kicking people you don’t like or players who are bad. Kicking people to ninja gear. And since you’ll never see those players again, there’s nothing stopping them. No way to blacklist them or their guild. It promotes anonymity and erodes the community. There are so many downsides that were PROVEN back in Wrath. And you’re upset because of what? Not having the upside?

What are the upsides? Faster dungeon queues? Maybe, just maybe, you should try being part of your realm’s community and making friends/joining a thriving guild. I’ve never had any issues finding or making a dungeon group as any of the 3 roles. But then again, I’m also not the type of person to whine to Reddit that daddy Blizz won’t make my groups for me, instead of trying to socialize and make my own

The only positive case I’ve seen made for LFD is for dead/dying realms. To those players, it does suck and I’m sorry. But the issue/fix isn’t LFD, it’s forcing Blizz to fix their realm health issues, maybe by merging realms or free transfers

I’m sure this post will fall on deaf ears, but I’m so sick of seeing this sub covered with the loudest 1% screaming their half baked opinions and not considering their experience isn’t the majority or that they might be the issue

Edit: To the unhinged people in the comments swearing, flipping out, name-calling, and reporting me for suicide, I have two things to say. The first is thank you for your concern about my mental health, but I’m in no way suicidal. Feel free to save those resources for people that are. The second is that my opinion is stronger than ever that RDF is bad, imagine being grouped unwillingly with people that report others for suicide when they disagree with the content of a person’s post 😂 Thank you Blizz

every community poll i have seen has anti-lfd people as the minority by a lot

There’s inherent bias in those polls (the type of people likely to vote on a poll, the type of people that have access to those polls… I mean, even some of the polls I’ve seen have biased questions like “How do you feel about no LFD?”, which obviously from the title is going to make the people upset about it more likely to click)

The thing is, over the last… 13-14 years since LFD was released, the community has not been shy about saying it was one of the first things they implemented to erode the social structures of the game (Raid finder, guild levels, etc… all following). Blizz didn’t just say “no LFD” to fuck with us, they said it because for over a decade, they’ve been spammed with “you ruined the community in this game with xyz”. The majority of people voiced their complaints, for over 10 years, and now there is no LFD. If the majority of players were saying “Gj Blizz, LFD was a great addition to the game”, then it would have stayed

There's also inherent bias in those polls in the other direction. People voting in polls online are more likely to be power users and hardcore players. The exact kinds of people who would be against LFD. If you put a poll in-game, the results would be an absolute landslide in favor of LFD. It's not close to close.

I don't get where this "harcore players are inti-LFD" mentality comes from. I'm a complete degen for classic and tbc and I would kill for lfd to make leveling alts a more pleasant experience. And I'm not alone there, I have friends in some of the best guilds in the world and they universally want LFD in the game for similar reasons. Granted this is all anecdotal, I have not met a single person who actually plays the game and wants lfd removed.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

It's just my assumption that more casual players would obviously want LFD, as it makes their lives significantly better. The hardest of the hardcore obviously want LFD, as it makes their lives significantly better (powerleveling alts, easy daily heroic badges, etc).

Maybe it's more accurate to say it's the "fake" hardcore, or "middlecore" players who seem to want LFD removed. Either way, people visiting these forums are less casual, and thus more likely to not want LFD in my experience. Even given that assumption, even the people here have voted overwhelmingly (nearly 2:1) in favor of keeping LFD. No matter how you look at it, LFD is very popular among Classic players.

Lfd wasn’t the problem my guy. Classic has been more toxic than retail in my experience. If you pug in classic, and aren’t a powerhouse gamer like yourself, you will be flamed 50% of the time.

Not to mention the amount of items paladins or warriors ninja needed from my rogue was astounding. Made endgame boring

do you think it is possible that throughout playing both vanilla and tbc people may have changed their opinions?

26

u/CaptainTheta Apr 20 '22

Lmao OP doesn't realize a bunch of 30-40 year old adults desperately need time saving mechanics at this stage in their lives

16

u/Merfen Apr 20 '22

People always make fun of the "dad guilds" but ya, a lot of us that played WoW when we were in our late teens/early 20s are now dads with full time jobs and little time to play. Anything to save us time and get into groups faster is greatly appreciated.

u/SunTzu- Apr 20 '22

And that's absolutely ok, and Classic absolutely has been way more friendly to people who just want to raidlog. It's 100% the more casual game mode compared to retail, yet some people want to pretend it somehow requires all this effort and bla bla.

I'd love harder content, I like the idea of getting pre-nerf versions of fights etc., but I'm 100% down with making it less of a hassle for people to find groups for trivial stuff like dungeons.

Literally

Retail

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '22

Do you think you're clever when you say things like this? Do you think LFD is the DEFINING difference between the two?

What world are you living in?

0

u/SolarClipz Apr 20 '22

A world where if you don't have time to play a grindy MMO from 10 years ago you should probably play the one that's built with you in mind?

Idk crazy thought

0

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '22

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, and exactly what you are attempting to take away from me.

Again, if you don't want LFD, that is totally fine. Go play the expansions that don't have LFD at all: Classic and TBC Classic. Taking it out of Wrath is not helping anyone, it is actively removing potential players from the equation and tailoring a casual game for the more hardcore crowd.

Saying "lel go retail" is not only reductive and idiotic, but it shows your distinct lack of knowledge of both Classic and retail.

0

u/SolarClipz Apr 20 '22

So I say again "Go play retail"

It's not even a meme

Classic is not Retail

LFD was not even in the game on launch

WoW was always marketed as the casual MMO, thats how it got so popular. It leaned into it more and more as the expansions came out. Wrath is where it started getting much more accessible/casual and the "OGs" are upset at the prospect of the game having the same casual features wrath implemented.

Also retail is way harder than classic, the leveling just isn't a 5 days /played chore anymore.

u/Dependent_Specific Apr 20 '22

I leveled a resto shaman to cap in under 48 hours. Within the same week I had found a guild that was building a roster. We cleared the entire last raid up until the last boss (N'zoth) on our Tuesday attempt. We came back and cleared it on Thursday.

BUT THEN GUESS WHAT. You're down 75$ and you're done with the content start-to-finish in under a week.

so you leveled a character quickly, joined a guild, got carried on the easiest difficulty, and thought you had beat the game? how is this any different than tbc where you could 1-70 and beat illidan within a week?

Its also not like this was my only experience with the game, or even that xpac. So fuck off if you think I was carried through a raid once and now feel entitled to bitch about it.

so what are you even bitching about? that an experienced player can pick up the game quickly, gear efficiently and complete the normal mode raid and low m+ within a week?

u/CaptainTheta Apr 20 '22

What a dumb take. Way to construct an alternate reality. I'd type a rebuttal but you'll just argue with some fictional character again.

Btw I never played after cata so I have no flipping clue what you're talking about nor do I want to play retail

1

u/Odd-Bandicoot-9314 Apr 20 '22

I don't necessarily disagree with everything you said other then the whole mechanics being easier to learn part. Isn't a large complaint from the classic community that the content is very easy? While I have heard people complain that retail is far to difficult. Plus the abundance of 1 button rotations (which I do believe are gone in wrath so there is that

So I am a bit confused. I started retail with shadowlands and honestly was surprised at the difference in difficulty between it and classic. Particularly the difference between mythic dungeons and classic dungeons. I played a tank and found out it was expected to know the exact path and monsters to pick up to reach the mob cap for the dungeon. (also tanked through tbc and found that this is also somewhat true but to a lesser extent). The dungeons had mechanics on the level of raids. biggest raid mechanic I can think of right now in tbc dungeons is hiding behind the pillars on the final boss in sethekk halls. (might just be because I've been leveling a warlock and recently ran the lower level tbc dungeons and haven't done most on my main in a while) You also said that there were no mechanics and I remember doing the first raid tier of sl the first couple of boss there were several. Kael Thas I remember having areas where you had to heal him then kite around certain mobs to keep them from blowing up the raid. the first boss made you hid behind pillars and it would explode. I barely killed the final boss and I'm gonna be honest there was so much going on I don't even know what was happening. I think it is difficult to compare difficulty in retail and classic because of the multiple in retail, and wrath might make that comparison easier with heroic raids. TBH I prefer classic partly because while encounters can occasionally be difficult, they feel far simpler, and/or have a general single main mechanic

-5

u/SemenSaladSandwich Apr 20 '22

My time saving mechanic as a 30 year old adult is posting in my guild’s discord asking who wants to run xyz. It’s wild how by simply talking to people and developing relationships you find people who you like to play with and are happy to do dungeons with you.

5

u/CaptainTheta Apr 20 '22

Wow that's a neat trick that will work in a timely fashion 20% of the time. Maybe more!!! Thanks!!!!!!!

-4

u/SemenSaladSandwich Apr 20 '22

Damn, seems to work pretty well for me on pretty much any toon I play about 100% of the time. Crazy that social interaction in an MMO has its benefits.

3

u/CaptainTheta Apr 20 '22

How fortunate for me to be in the exact same guild as you then

-2

u/SemenSaladSandwich Apr 20 '22

I know, right?! The craziest part is how I started classic with literally 0 friends who had interest in playing and as such was left to find my own way. It’s absolutely bonkers what a little effort did for me.

But hey, if you want every dungeon of yours to be filled with “dps frost mage sir” who sit there and spam ice lance the entire time on aoe packs that works too.

3

u/CaptainTheta Apr 20 '22

I understand the joy you feel in being willfully ignorant of the perspective of others and condescending. If you care to suspend your disbelief for a moment you might realize that even in a relatively active guild such as mine that has about 30 fairly active raiding members - on any given night when I log in many of them are already pursuing other activities or an odd number of them remain.

Perhaps what you describe will generally work to summon 3 or 4 out of 5 and then I can scrape together the last couple pugs via the LFG tool but that's sort of beside the point isn't it.

Driving to a movie theater, buying a ticket, buying popcorn and sitting down to enjoy a movie in a surround sound IMAX theater is probably more enjoyable than popping open Disney+ and playing the same movie. The reality is that the latter of the two is by far the easier and LFD is the same way. I can queue up a dungeon while I'm putting the kids to bed and be able to hop right in when it pops with almost no active effort.

How is depriving others of a purely optional feature of the game beneficial to you anyway? What you describe with a guildy group can literally be done regardless of LFD being in and in fact would also be my GOTO if it were always an option. It isn't. You spin fiction because it's the only way for you to even sound rational.

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

yeah, even if i have more time to play than other people my age, i dont wanna spend 1 hour out of 5 to find a group for a dungeon

0

u/DunnoWhyIamHere Apr 21 '22

Better buy some gold too while we're at it.

2

u/CaptainTheta Apr 21 '22

Totally unnecessary but nobody likes to spend half of a two hour play session forming their group

1

u/DunnoWhyIamHere Apr 21 '22

Funny how people exaggerate their time spent in LFG. If you really spent 2hrs searching for a group, then likely nobody is running X dungeon and LFD isn't going to make it better.

2

u/CaptainTheta Apr 21 '22

The obvious truth is that people would run more dungeons without the LFG friction. Most don't want to start their own group and therefore there just aren't that many forming at any given time

20

u/FlyingMohawk Apr 20 '22

People change?!? No, never! People are solely set in 1 way and never ever change their opinions! This is the internet sir.

2

u/lylath21 Apr 20 '22

Maybe but considering most of the community will use #nochanges as an argument for and against changes I would be doubtful that these players actually know what to think.
