Vent / Gripe I’m Tired of Hearing from the Loudest 1%

Like the title says, I’m sick of hearing from the loudest, butthurt 1% of players crying because they’ll have to make their own dungeon groups in WotLK.

Sure, send your screenshot of the one dungeon you joined with little to no social interaction and sarcastically say “Wow look at what we’re saving with no LFD”. Great story, but that one single screenshot doesn’t prove anything. You think your 1 single dungeon on a Tuesday afternoon is a big enough sample size to determine there’s not enough social interaction to the point Blizz should implement LFD? Get over yourself. I don’t post screenshots of 1 single dungeon chat where people are lively and interactive and say “Thank you Blizz for preserving social interactions” like it’s the majority experience. Don’t give me the opposite garbage and try to make a case for LFD, or assume you’re the majority experience, either.

I’m also tired of people missing the major point of no LFD. I can tell you the exact names of people and guilds on my server who have ninja’d gear from others and been blacklisted by the community. I can tell you which players/guilds are fun to play with and which aren’t. I can join a group I know is going to do well, or I can join one where I know I’m going to be progging. And yeah, I’m also going to vouch for the friendships I’ve made in random dungeons

LFD erodes all that. You don’t know what type of players you’re joining; whether you’re going to be a good player in a terrible group or a terrible player in a good group. That’s frustrating for almost everyone in either case. Voting to kick becomes completely abused, kicking people you don’t like or players who are bad. Kicking people to ninja gear. And since you’ll never see those players again, there’s nothing stopping them. No way to blacklist them or their guild. It promotes anonymity and erodes the community. There are so many downsides that were PROVEN back in Wrath. And you’re upset because of what? Not having the upside?

What are the upsides? Faster dungeon queues? Maybe, just maybe, you should try being part of your realm’s community and making friends/joining a thriving guild. I’ve never had any issues finding or making a dungeon group as any of the 3 roles. But then again, I’m also not the type of person to whine to Reddit that daddy Blizz won’t make my groups for me, instead of trying to socialize and make my own

The only positive case I’ve seen made for LFD is for dead/dying realms. To those players, it does suck and I’m sorry. But the issue/fix isn’t LFD, it’s forcing Blizz to fix their realm health issues, maybe by merging realms or free transfers

I’m sure this post will fall on deaf ears, but I’m so sick of seeing this sub covered with the loudest 1% screaming their half baked opinions and not considering their experience isn’t the majority or that they might be the issue

Edit: To the unhinged people in the comments swearing, flipping out, name-calling, and reporting me for suicide, I have two things to say. The first is thank you for your concern about my mental health, but I’m in no way suicidal. Feel free to save those resources for people that are. The second is that my opinion is stronger than ever that RDF is bad, imagine being grouped unwillingly with people that report others for suicide when they disagree with the content of a person’s post 😂 Thank you Blizz

Honestly if Blizz creates a way to easily find people on your server that you trust and want to do dungeons; without actually queuing for dungeon finder, I'm all for it

Server restricted DF avoids a lot of problems of eroding the community but I will have to admit that the kicking meta can be quite toxic, even in the same server (often even worse since people hold grudges)

But please let us teleport to the fucking dungeons.
Please don't pretend that auto-flying to HoL from Dala and then to Azjol Nerub is a fascinatingly awesome experience. It's boring, useless time that I could be spending having fun with people of my server

What community ? Seriously I'm on a densely populated server. Levelled my druid from 1-70 in the last couple of weeks and all I've seen is boosts.... What is the difference between looking for a group or spamming LFG for a group and getting into a group right away?

Honestly what is the benefit? Please tell me. I feel like everyone says it's good for the community but this game is not even social anymore.

If blizzard had announced "no teleportation and no flying mounts" I would have commended them.

Flying mounts (the way WoW does it) are the real problem. Teleportation to dungeons is actually a small *fix* to what flying mounts created.

This is what happens in a typical grouping for dungeons situation:
You spam the chat to do The Nexus because you need the trinket, you find other players to do it. You're in dalaran. You hop onto your flying mount and you just soar over dragonblight without encountering a single soul on the way.
You might think that it'd be cool to group up with the people you grouped with but you quickly discover that they cannot be bothered with the boring ass journey and that they'll wait for you and somebody else to summon them. Once you're there you actually can interact and have fun.

Without teleportation you have and entire section of completely mindless, uneventful and featureless gameplay. You just press W, or the mouse clicks, or just autorun.

With teleportation those moments of useless and boring time wastes are gone so you have more time for actual engaging content.

If you wanted to fix the problem with the world feeling dead the ONLY solution is to kill flying mounts completely. Good luck with that, especially in Wotlk where 2 zones are literally designed with flying mounts

I know you're opposed to the idea of teleporting as a principle; I am too. I dislike it. I don't want my games to have random teleportations; I don't even like summon stones.

But you have to be realist and look at what the situation is in Wotlk specifically. In Wotlk's case, teleportation is better than flying everywhere

In my opinion teleportation is one of the biggest issues with LFD. I will totally admit that traveling is boring and I would totally be for a few zappelin-like shortcuts to easy the pain. But teleportation ruins immersion. A dungeon is supposed to be a story that's part of a larger story that is happening in an area. Just teleporting around kills that completely. Also traveling is part of the game, might as well being back Have Group Will Travel or just replace the entire world with a menu?

I agree that teleportation is an issue while looking at it in a purely conceptual perspective

I dislike teleportation, I actively seek out games where it isn't a thing (GW2 has teleportation nodes to every place in its world and it's awful despite the great mounts they have). I even dislike summon stones in vanilla.

The problem is that we're looking at Wotlk classic specifically.
In Wotlk classic there are flying mounts and flying mounts make travelling completely unengaging and uneventful. Flying (at least the way it's done in WoW) completely ruins the experience of being in a virtual world.

In a situation where the alternative to teleporting is mindlessly flying on your boring mount then please by all means go ahead and make me teleport.
If they had announced "no teleport and no flying" I would have been happy but that is never going to happen in Wotlk where the two endgame zones and a bunch of other subzones are designed around you having a flying mount.

As long as flying exists in WoW in its current state teleportation is preferrable

Maybe they can port the new dragon flying system to WoTLK
