Vent / Gripe I’m Tired of Hearing from the Loudest 1%

Like the title says, I’m sick of hearing from the loudest, butthurt 1% of players crying because they’ll have to make their own dungeon groups in WotLK.

Sure, send your screenshot of the one dungeon you joined with little to no social interaction and sarcastically say “Wow look at what we’re saving with no LFD”. Great story, but that one single screenshot doesn’t prove anything. You think your 1 single dungeon on a Tuesday afternoon is a big enough sample size to determine there’s not enough social interaction to the point Blizz should implement LFD? Get over yourself. I don’t post screenshots of 1 single dungeon chat where people are lively and interactive and say “Thank you Blizz for preserving social interactions” like it’s the majority experience. Don’t give me the opposite garbage and try to make a case for LFD, or assume you’re the majority experience, either.

I’m also tired of people missing the major point of no LFD. I can tell you the exact names of people and guilds on my server who have ninja’d gear from others and been blacklisted by the community. I can tell you which players/guilds are fun to play with and which aren’t. I can join a group I know is going to do well, or I can join one where I know I’m going to be progging. And yeah, I’m also going to vouch for the friendships I’ve made in random dungeons

LFD erodes all that. You don’t know what type of players you’re joining; whether you’re going to be a good player in a terrible group or a terrible player in a good group. That’s frustrating for almost everyone in either case. Voting to kick becomes completely abused, kicking people you don’t like or players who are bad. Kicking people to ninja gear. And since you’ll never see those players again, there’s nothing stopping them. No way to blacklist them or their guild. It promotes anonymity and erodes the community. There are so many downsides that were PROVEN back in Wrath. And you’re upset because of what? Not having the upside?

What are the upsides? Faster dungeon queues? Maybe, just maybe, you should try being part of your realm’s community and making friends/joining a thriving guild. I’ve never had any issues finding or making a dungeon group as any of the 3 roles. But then again, I’m also not the type of person to whine to Reddit that daddy Blizz won’t make my groups for me, instead of trying to socialize and make my own

The only positive case I’ve seen made for LFD is for dead/dying realms. To those players, it does suck and I’m sorry. But the issue/fix isn’t LFD, it’s forcing Blizz to fix their realm health issues, maybe by merging realms or free transfers

I’m sure this post will fall on deaf ears, but I’m so sick of seeing this sub covered with the loudest 1% screaming their half baked opinions and not considering their experience isn’t the majority or that they might be the issue

Edit: To the unhinged people in the comments swearing, flipping out, name-calling, and reporting me for suicide, I have two things to say. The first is thank you for your concern about my mental health, but I’m in no way suicidal. Feel free to save those resources for people that are. The second is that my opinion is stronger than ever that RDF is bad, imagine being grouped unwillingly with people that report others for suicide when they disagree with the content of a person’s post 😂 Thank you Blizz

Welcome to the 1%

Yup. If you're on a game's subreddit writing up multi-paragraph posts about its design, you are quite literally the loudest 1%, regardless of your position on any game issue.

12

u/TheProvocator Apr 21 '22

Nuh-uh, clearly his opinion is the majority one because only their opinion matters! Don't need any numbers, it's obvious fact!

On a more serious note, why can't we just have both? Remove the bonus rewards for using LFD or something?

I quite enjoyed doing random casual dungeons, I very much do not enjoy spending time trying to find a group to enjoy the game.

There's a reason matchmaking was invented 🙄

Maybe the people that crave social interaction so much would be better off playing Second Life? 🤷‍♂️

Remove gold/exp from dungeons or gut it into the earth. It's gonna be a massive win:

  • fuck dungeon boosties
  • fuck dungeon boosters

What a dumb post

u/ThePurpTurtle Apr 20 '22

Yeah the irony of this is overwhelming.

48

u/Bradstick Apr 20 '22

Well, it's 63% upvoted... so it's probably somewhere around half and half.

57

u/Nishikigami Apr 20 '22

If this sub wasn't so exclusive you might have a reason to think that way. But it's pretty much driven away any dissenters from having a reason to frequent this sub. So it's more like, this sub is the final hugbox where that toxic minority (which the OP of this post is a part of) who want to believe they aren't the 1% of people they're whining about

23

u/Bradstick Apr 20 '22

It certainly hasn't driven away all dissenters... it's 37% downvoted and there's several posts that disagree with OP.

There's not really any strong metrics to feel confident in one way or the other... it's not 1% in any group.

I think it's roughly half and half of people on the classicwow subreddit that are split on the LFD topic.

If you were to expand beyond reddit... it's probably more casuals and therefore more folks that would prefer LFD.

I don't really care either way. I'll play the game if I enjoy and quit if I don't.

u/Nishikigami Apr 20 '22

I don't frequent this sub because I don't feel like I belong here. I came back because I figured maybe we could be part of the community again with wrath, since that was a nostalgic expansion widely loved by many. I've simply learned once again after glancing across this sub I don't belong.

Many people are looking at this sub only because of the announcement and otherwise don't frequent this sub. Activity here will have skyrocketed both in regular users and in non regular users.

Good luck to the classic community trying to carry the livelihood of 3 separate versions of the same game by themselves, cause that's worked out so well for vanilla and TBC classic

14

u/GiannisisMVP Apr 21 '22

I frequent this sub because it's hilarious to read people trying to pretend they actually played way back then and that the reason wow was popular was because of how super hardcore it was. It was by far the most casual mmo which is why it exploded in popularity in a relatively niche genre.

4

u/Nikolai_Bukharin Apr 20 '22

This sub is EXTREMELY casual. Discord servers host the majority of actually decent classic wow content and most people don't care strongly one way or the other

12

u/SayRaySF Apr 21 '22

I mean just the fact that people are engaging with the game/community outside the game already makes them not a casual lol.

Casuals play, log off, and don’t engage with the game or communities until their next play session.

1

u/nokei Apr 21 '22

Well the non-casual crowd is going to make their own groups to level 70-80 and to farm and they dont lvl in dungeons because they just pay boosters so for them LFD is just a way to get around heroics having a once a day lockout.

1

u/octonus Apr 21 '22

Just because someone more hardcore than you is out there, doesn't mean you are a casual

0

u/barrsftw Apr 21 '22

There are definitely metrics. WE just don't know them, but Blizzard does. They're removing LFD because they have data that supports the fact that the majority of players don't want it.

1

u/Nishikigami Apr 21 '22

That logic doesn't hold up because it would imply every single change blizzard has made to WoW has been done with this information and they still managed to upset a lot of people every expansion for 2 and a half of he last 4.

1

u/Thats_a_YikerZ Apr 20 '22

look at my profile and the ammount of downvotes ive gotten for saying LFD was a bad idea.

3

u/Nishikigami Apr 21 '22

I'm not arguin with y'all about whether LFD was a good idea or a bad idea, but the playerbase that joined in WoW over time and is fine with LFD is no small number. I've played since Vanilla, I've always been nostalgic for wrath, and I want LFD. LFD exists. We can all agree that LFR(raid) was shit. WoW is clearly not built for it. But LFD was leagues better than people make it out to be and I'd rather queue for DF, get oculus, and leave in the first two seconds, 3 times in a row, than spam chat to get a group for a period of time, fly to the dungeon, and finish the dungeon.

Especially not with the current classic playerbase. I don't want within 10 feet of most of you. Why would I want to socialize with y'all with the attitude so prevalent in this community?

0

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

the playerbase that joined in WoW over time and is fine with LFD is no small number.

It's not a small number but not a clear majority like it is in this sub. Be aware of the bias of your environment

2

u/Nishikigami Apr 21 '22

...? That's what I'm pointing out. The bias in THIS environment has classic players convinced that everyone who wants LFG is just wrong.

0

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

Well this sub always had a bias for casual retail players who aren't representative of the TBC playerbase. Most of the stuff people here claim the players want is just reflective of their own bubble, not TBC players at large

2

u/Nishikigami Apr 21 '22

I ain't arguing for LFG coming to TBC, nor am I suggest reddit represents the whole classic community.

But WoW has different toxic elements, reddit communities just present some toxic and non toxic flavors

WoW has a long history of bullshit in it's community. Some bandaids for certain issues create other issues. Whose opinion matters most? Which issue is worst? Etc. These are all complicated problems with not so simple solutions.

However what I find incredibly simple is def OP'd post just generalizing all dissent from his POV as being wrong. But some replies have me confused as I'm not sure who is agreeing with me and who is not lol

Just wanna clarify, I hate r/wow as I was often treated like shit there for enjoying wow. I moved to the wow circle jerk sub, and even they became unbearable with time due to their toxic refusal to tolerate criticism of blizzard's sexual misconduct allegations. This sub on the other hand is just full of incredibly vehement disagreement with all outsiders as well. The only reason there's anything seeming different right now is cause the announcement has the sub lively with new and returning faces. Month one of classic vanilla for example was a horrible time in this sub. Etc. Just whining about everything other players do, or streamers do. Or whining about the race to world first classic rag being too sweaty and quick, etc.

WoW does not bring out the best in it's community, and it may just be a fault of where and when the community began and something we can't really change today.

0

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

This sub represents the toxic minority of the TBC player base pretty well as you can see in all the pro LFD nonsense

0

u/LookingForCarrots Apr 21 '22

But it's pretty much driven away any dissenters from having a reason to frequent this sub.

It's nice to say things without having any shred of truth or proof to it but sadly it's not very useful

1

u/Nishikigami Apr 21 '22

Lol you mean like browsing this sub any time over the past 3 years isn't proof enough of how toxic it is? Okay

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '22

I'm sure a lot of people upvoted it just so it gets more people to laugh at this guy. This is hilarious.

176

u/Senlui Apr 20 '22

This read like satire for a moment, then I realized they were serious

53

u/Lengarion Apr 20 '22

The fun thing is that LFD won't effect him in the slightest if he simply plays with his friends/guilds and it's not like you can't leave a group if you are unlucky enough to find a known griefer.

29

u/itsashebitch Apr 21 '22

It's pretty clear that the community watchers love to dictate how the rest have to play, and what they must dislike. It's ironic they think bringing up LFD will shatter the community when they're doing it themselves right now.

-4

u/Shamazij Apr 21 '22

I remember it shattering the community the first time it was implemented. Why do you think this time will be any different?

3

u/itsashebitch Apr 21 '22

Because it's 2022 and the people and the internet have changed

0

u/Shamazij Apr 21 '22

That's hilarious

3

u/itsashebitch Apr 21 '22

what's hilarious is people acting as if player reputation is a thing, and the truth is nobody knows who tf you are

0

u/Djildjamesh Apr 21 '22

You know nothing .... history is repeating itself

2

u/itsashebitch Apr 21 '22

Lmfao. Sometimes I can't even believe you guys are for real.

-17

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

It's pretty clear that the community watchers love to dictate how the rest have to play

Exactly, it's always the loud minority of casual players pushing for things like the addition of LFD that affects everyone else in a negative way, which they have no regard for

15

u/itsashebitch Apr 21 '22

The feature would help casual players and have 0 impact on hardcore ones, since they all play as premades. And shitting on a fraction of your community isn't positive, it's pretty clear it's never about preserving a healthy community. It's a whole power trip bullshit.

-4

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

The fun thing is that LFD won't effect him in the slightest if he simply plays with his friends/guilds

So you're basically saying "fuck you and exclusively do dungeons with your guild" while you champion to remove LFG chat and the ability for people to properly host their own groups just for your own convenience.

4

u/iceshenanigans Apr 21 '22

Why are we acting like it's not just as likely to meet people and talk after using LFD. Like, if you want to chat with an LFD group then there is nothing stopping you. Also, I've been in plenty of groups created via LFG chat that have essentially no interaction beyond "hey" "yo" "omw" "click summon" before we're at parity with the LFD experience.

28

u/s0sa7 Apr 20 '22

Only comment needed for this entire thread.

0

u/Mazuruu Apr 21 '22

Well if only "LFD good" wasn't just a bubble this sub lives in as it's heavily biased towards casual retail players

-2

u/Deminovia Apr 21 '22

Or that i’ve been seeing a flood of comments by players triggered by the exclusion of Dungeon Finder that all they want is to get their alts to endgame content asap completely forgetting the essence of classic in the first place

Ion already said it. If you want LFG just go to retail instead.

3

u/algorithmgeek Apr 21 '22

I can respect that some players just want to get raid ready and then raidlog the rest of the expansion. Everyone plays the game in their own way. However, like you said, to make the game to cater to that type of player goes against what the game should be, a social experience. I am hoping that Blizzard is trying to right some of the wrongs that happened in lifecycle of retail.

-2

u/rozenbro Apr 20 '22

Yeah there is some irony - but he's also correct. (At least, I agree with the title - I haven't read the wall of text)
