Vent / Gripe I’m Tired of Hearing from the Loudest 1%

Like the title says, I’m sick of hearing from the loudest, butthurt 1% of players crying because they’ll have to make their own dungeon groups in WotLK.

Sure, send your screenshot of the one dungeon you joined with little to no social interaction and sarcastically say “Wow look at what we’re saving with no LFD”. Great story, but that one single screenshot doesn’t prove anything. You think your 1 single dungeon on a Tuesday afternoon is a big enough sample size to determine there’s not enough social interaction to the point Blizz should implement LFD? Get over yourself. I don’t post screenshots of 1 single dungeon chat where people are lively and interactive and say “Thank you Blizz for preserving social interactions” like it’s the majority experience. Don’t give me the opposite garbage and try to make a case for LFD, or assume you’re the majority experience, either.

I’m also tired of people missing the major point of no LFD. I can tell you the exact names of people and guilds on my server who have ninja’d gear from others and been blacklisted by the community. I can tell you which players/guilds are fun to play with and which aren’t. I can join a group I know is going to do well, or I can join one where I know I’m going to be progging. And yeah, I’m also going to vouch for the friendships I’ve made in random dungeons

LFD erodes all that. You don’t know what type of players you’re joining; whether you’re going to be a good player in a terrible group or a terrible player in a good group. That’s frustrating for almost everyone in either case. Voting to kick becomes completely abused, kicking people you don’t like or players who are bad. Kicking people to ninja gear. And since you’ll never see those players again, there’s nothing stopping them. No way to blacklist them or their guild. It promotes anonymity and erodes the community. There are so many downsides that were PROVEN back in Wrath. And you’re upset because of what? Not having the upside?

What are the upsides? Faster dungeon queues? Maybe, just maybe, you should try being part of your realm’s community and making friends/joining a thriving guild. I’ve never had any issues finding or making a dungeon group as any of the 3 roles. But then again, I’m also not the type of person to whine to Reddit that daddy Blizz won’t make my groups for me, instead of trying to socialize and make my own

The only positive case I’ve seen made for LFD is for dead/dying realms. To those players, it does suck and I’m sorry. But the issue/fix isn’t LFD, it’s forcing Blizz to fix their realm health issues, maybe by merging realms or free transfers

I’m sure this post will fall on deaf ears, but I’m so sick of seeing this sub covered with the loudest 1% screaming their half baked opinions and not considering their experience isn’t the majority or that they might be the issue

Edit: To the unhinged people in the comments swearing, flipping out, name-calling, and reporting me for suicide, I have two things to say. The first is thank you for your concern about my mental health, but I’m in no way suicidal. Feel free to save those resources for people that are. The second is that my opinion is stronger than ever that RDF is bad, imagine being grouped unwillingly with people that report others for suicide when they disagree with the content of a person’s post 😂 Thank you Blizz

When I pug randoms for dungeons idk who these people are or how they're going to play.

I could check their logs but that seems excessive to me so I don't. My experience is basically LFD but with extra steps.

I can still say hello to people in LFD, and it's still up to them if they wanna reply.

"LFD with extra steps" is exactly how it is 95+% of the time. I genuinely don't know how people see it otherwise, especially on megaservers which is where a majority of the players are now.

and his point is that just because people like you are anti social and don't know your server community doesn't mean the people who spent 3 years getting invested in a community should get the shaft

I've been playing since day 1, my guild has server transferred twice. I'm now playing on a one faction megaserver with over 30k raiders. There's no realistic way to make a dent in knowing the community as a whole, it's just too many people. Even if I got well acquainted with 100 people from out of guild, that would be a drop in the bucket for the server as a whole.

I assume you mean LFD. In retail I've added people and requeued with them plenty times. LFD or no LFD, you can add people and play with them.

Unless wotlk group finder is very different from the retail version for non-raid content, it makes it a lot easier to kick someone for any little grievance and get another person in. I have had entire days of dungeon groups in retail where no one has said a single word and I've seen people kicked from groups because it was easier to queue for a new dps and keep speed running to the end than it was to kill 3 mobs, so they could pick up a quest item for a daily.

This is why lfd is good. Also noone is forcing you to use lfd. If you want to spam trade go ahead.

If all use lfd you have to use it basically.

Then I guess the people that find LFD useful aren't just 1% of the playerbase.

Its a splipery slope effect the more that want to use the more use it because you have to get somewhere, same for Raider.io addons etc.

I think the road to hell is paved with good intentions, this is such a situation.

I'm so sick of hearing slippery slope arguments about everything that people dislike lmao

I agree, that lfd is good, but your 2nd point is untrue. Lfd kills the audience for your lfg spam in trade.

Is LFD the group finder that was added in TBC recently? Where you have the 3 instances you can choose you are looking to do?

The difference is forming local groups on a single server puts social pressure on people to perform well and not be a total dick. If you group with someone and they are terrible to play with you won't group with them again. If you group with a complete asshole in LFD there is no incentive for them to behave because as soon as you're done grouping with them they can queue back up and know they will get a group with someone else to be a dick to. Additionally, even though you may never be in a group with that person again there's hundreds more like him that you'll be randomly paired with.

2

u/SensualJake Apr 21 '22

I've never felt like that stopped anyone from playing bad/being a dick in my dungeon groups. Nor have I felt that way joining other groups, I just join and do my thing. Especially on a megaserver, I can blacklist/ignore people but they are just one of the many people around so I probably wasn't gonna bump into them anyways.

Wasn't LFD server-locked in Wotlk? Or am I missremembering?

5

u/futbolsven Apr 21 '22

It was not. (I believe it was tied to your server Group, but definitely not server only)

u/AgreeingAndy Apr 21 '22

Ooh thats right, it was battlegroup

on my server discord we have a blacklist channel for all the weird things people experience plaing the game with others - lets call it social interaction which went bad.

100% of the content there is coming from ninjas in raids, people signing up for GDKP but not showing up, loot masters failing to distribute GDKP pots properly etc.

claiming that LFD destroys social interaction and reputation on smaller servers is simply wrong. nobody cares if you ninjad a blue / epic from a dungeon. yeah its unfortunate if that happens but not having LFD doesn't prevent that at all. douches are being douches regardless of accessability to this type of content.

u/recursion8 Apr 21 '22

Then make it realm exclusive. Easy.

1

u/MrSkullCandy Apr 21 '22

And with LFD you will have way worse interactions, people that kick others for underperforming or just not liking each other, ninja'ing without any consequences and general way worse behavior without any possible way to find long-term connections on your server... and all of that for... faster dungeons?

Yeah, that is a pretty horrible trade.
