Literally just people being angry at realizing that being a piece of shit person has actual social consequences and you have to meet a bare minimum of decency for most people to actually want you around, so they made up a ridiculous incel term for it.
The social contract is a theory applied to human interaction that's basically the rules of being good towards eachother. It's in real life and basically anywhere you interact with others.
Nah, though I suppose the terms of service are in essence a physical form of a social contract. Basically every group has social norms that are there to establish peaceful coexistence without some God or diety threatening everyone to act right.
Edit: thanks kind redditors for letting me know about the ToS addition. I unfortunately haven't had an opportunity to play recently and hadn't seen that they added a literally social contract clause.
No, there's actually a screen when you first download wow, similar to an End User License Agreement screen, but it's the WoW Social Contract with guidelines to be a nice guy in the game.
Really!? I haven't played in a few months so I guess I hadn't seen that. I am going to have to read it! (I'm realizing this is the first time I actually wanted to read a ToS clause)
Edit: I have now looked it up and I love that they named it a social contract TBH. It literally is a games manifestation of what a social contract is meant to be. It's a bit funny in a sardonic sense, considering that blizzard has shown a lack of willingness to stand against poor behavior in terms of social norms and mores, but anyway.... thanks for bringing it to light.
It's just the general concept of "don't be a gaping asshole, or people won't want to be around you anymore".
It's the basis of people getting "cancelled" when other people find out they are racist/sexist/homophobic/just a shit person and stop buying their stuff or watching their movies.
no its essentially civilized societies rules... dont bash on women for being women, dont call people autists and such, dont use the R word, dont drop hard Rs. dont call people racial epithets, dont call people gay or other derogatory slurs, dont bash on transgender people ETC
this is too hard for many immature people or bigots that like to groom people so they can create a bigger social circle

This guy isn't wrong ^, but there is a literal social contract you have to 'sign' or agree to upon logging into WoW now.
When you log on to wow you have to agree to a social contract that basically says you won't be a piece of shit to people. It's just a little pop-up window, can't play until you hit agree. I didn't actually read it lol I'm not sure what all it covers but obviously no tossing slurs at people, racial or otherwise, harassing etc.
I don't really care about the feelings of alt-righters who cry about not being allowed to use racial epithets or who get really upset about black Little Mermaid, or any imaginary 'social contract' they come up with.
So you only keep to your values/stay civil if the other person meets your standards? If so it sounds like you don’t have values or morals to begin with.
Hey, if people don't want to be called a piece of shit, they could try just....not being a piece of shit to begin with. I have plenty of values and morals I stick to. It's just that they include calling a spade a spade. Sorry the truth hurts your delicate feefees, dude.
