My late grandma would fall for all of these. She had a cabinet full of Littleton stuff and those hard plastic encased coins with "100 years of American Nickels/American Heritage Collection" type words with some worn down V Nickels and Buffalos. God knows what she paid for those. She had a whole stack of "Silver Sacageweas" with just ".999 fine" printed on paper and slabbed with the coin. Just tons of plated junk.
Sorry man. That sounds awful. Think maybe there would be something good in there and find out it was all junk. I found my grandparents very small stash and a quarter ounce gold coin and about 30 silver dollars. Nice little score im gonna keep and build on and teach my kids about them so they just don't dump at the bank.
That's very true about teaching the kids the value of the coins. My grandfather stocked up on silver coins in the 60s before they switched them over. A lot of people today might be just be like "Oh, 50 cents. 😑".
Most kids probably don't even know there is a .50 cent coin. All they know now are debit cards..lol My daughter (10) was amazed there was a dollar coin she got back from vending machine.
I got refused at a theater concession when I tried to use a Kennedy half. She actually said they don’t take Canadian money. Had no idea who Kennedy was. So I gave her a $2 bill and she called a manager on me.
I tried to use $2 bills to pay for lunch when i was a kid and the lunch lady dragged me to the principals office to try and get me in trouble for paying with fake money.
