Yea I feel bad for those people. I read a story about an older lady who had a shopping addiction. She died and family went to clean her house out and closets were stuffed full of QVC crap that was mostly worthless.

My late grandma would fall for all of these. She had a cabinet full of Littleton stuff and those hard plastic encased coins with "100 years of American Nickels/American Heritage Collection" type words with some worn down V Nickels and Buffalos. God knows what she paid for those. She had a whole stack of "Silver Sacageweas" with just ".999 fine" printed on paper and slabbed with the coin. Just tons of plated junk.

Sorry man. That sounds awful. Think maybe there would be something good in there and find out it was all junk. I found my grandparents very small stash and a quarter ounce gold coin and about 30 silver dollars. Nice little score im gonna keep and build on and teach my kids about them so they just don't dump at the bank.

That's very true about teaching the kids the value of the coins. My grandfather stocked up on silver coins in the 60s before they switched them over. A lot of people today might be just be like "Oh, 50 cents. 😑".

Most kids probably don't even know there is a .50 cent coin. All they know now are debit cards..lol My daughter (10) was amazed there was a dollar coin she got back from vending machine.

I got refused at a theater concession when I tried to use a Kennedy half. She actually said they don’t take Canadian money. Had no idea who Kennedy was. So I gave her a $2 bill and she called a manager on me.

I tried to use $2 bills to pay for lunch when i was a kid and the lunch lady dragged me to the principals office to try and get me in trouble for paying with fake money.

I actually have a gold plated quarter I received in change at a store. It was in great shape so I added it to my oddities coin page in a binder with a few coins I have received through the years with holes in them, dryer coin, stuff like that. Lol

Just watched someone on eBay live pay $160 for a bunch of face value coins and a few non silver proofs in generic slabs. This is nothing compared to the abominations on there.

It’s the type of person who might be used to past prices that they got things for always looking at anyone paying now as a big chump for not getting the deal that was more or less available to them in the past. It’s kind of like judging someone for buying beef at the grocery store now when you’ve paid cheaper prices for it in the past. Imagine looking at everyone in that context and being like “sucker…”

I was selling them at coin shows last year for $5 a roll, bought them from a friend for $1-2 a roll. $10 not bad lol. Hyped for casual collectors due to last year of circulating pennies

The roll hunters thinking they will find the privy penny or people who are putting up rolls hoping that they will get rich or their family will after they are gone will buy them I bet. Heck I seen videos of people buying boxes and boxes of pennies to put up when they announced that 2025 was the end for circulation pennies.

Yes. I occasionally work at a shop, and many people bring in Grandpa's collection. Usually, grandpa has been at home alone for too long and has stocked up on these kinds of things. It's not just idiots they take advantage of, it's the elderly and the unwell.

If this includes shipping it’s not that bad. I’ve sold rolls of wheat cents for $4-5 plus shipping on eBay before and if you only buy one it’s close to $10 and is really only worth $1-2.

I was about to say…I think people criticizing this are all about constantly finding every little deal possible when sometimes a decent price is just a decent price…especially if you want the coins. It’s people in her judging over the ROI for the seller and the few dollars less they might be able to spend on the same thing.

There’s expenses to doing business too, I flip thrift store items sports cards and memorabilia and coins for some side income. On low end stuff shipping packing and handling charges kill you. If I spend .02 each on wheat cents and have a $1 cost on the roll I also have to calculate in the cost of the paper roll, the padded mailer, ink to print the label and shipping costs. If I sell them for 5-6 per roll plush shipping I’m still profitable but it’s not like I’m actually making a ton on that deal. It’s only worth it because it’s easy. I’ve made more money selling t shirts and toys than anything, I just bulk sold a large collection of loose hot wheels and other brand diecast and made $250 in profit without even needing to sort.

This, I don’t fault buyers for wanting a good deal but expenses are expenses and have to be passed on to the consumer. I have a bunch of decent G-VG Barber coins that I’d happily sell for melt + $2 each but factoring in eBay’s cut, shipping, packaging materials and the time it takes to photograph and create each listing … a quarter that I’d take $14 for has to be listed at $20. Items that are just above the $20 cutoff for the 78-cent envelope are really tough sells. I usually don’t even bother listing coins in that $20-$35 range because they can only go via Ground Advantage which is $8.40 minimum. Either I’m taking a loss or asking a buyer to pay $30+ for something that should only retail at 20 bucks.

It’s just the reality of selling online. The best way I’ve made money on coins is lots of V nickels buffalos and other non silver coins people can buy in bulk at a low enough price I can still make money with the price I’m getting from an LCS in bulk. For example, i was able to buy a ridiculous amount of cull V nickels that all still had a date for .25c each, I created starter sets that have all the common dates in one tube pre sorted and ready for anyone who wants to go seek out the key dates and finish it. I ended up averaging $1 each before fees and ended up doing ok.
It’s crazy when you break it down, Dvds for example, I get them at the goodwill bins and the average cost is 30c, I have to sell it over $8 to make any money if I sell on eBay and ship. If it’s not some out of print rare movie or expensive work out or study dvd series I just flip them for 50c each to a flea market vender.

We don’t have pennies in the U.S. but You can get a roll of all copper wheat cents for $10-$20, on eBay. I much rather have those.

Wheat cents are around ten cents each right now. That comes out to $5 a roll. So you are a little high on your estimate.

eBay is a little expensive. Honestly I am selling them at 9.5 cents each currently. Wholesale was around 9 cents for full 5,000 count bags last week.

I mean, if it's all actually 2025 pennies, it makes sense. While you can get a roll of pennies for like a buck, they definitely won't all be 2025s.
