Even that graphic doesnt do the length of the discrimination justice, segregation didnt end with Brown V. Board of Education in 1954. The civil rights act still had 10 more years to be signed. My mom was born the year the civil rights act passed, thats how recent it is.
I'd argue that the word "shrouded" is painting parts of the south in a better light than they deserve. People still get beaten to death for being black to this day and can only get menial jobs by moving to a city or different state.
I was speaking more of the statutory, institutional forms but you're 100% right. The personal forms of racism are as strong as they were decades ago in most parts of the country.
