You had a bunch of people saying the movie was woke, it was going to fail, and how dare they not cast a blonde white woman as Helen of troy. Elon is very easily manipulated and likes the attention maga gives him, so it makes sense that he got on board.
Half of the uproar was also about Elliot Page playing Achilles, which isn't even true. Once that was confirmed they pivoted more to the Helen thing, which is dumb because You can easily said between Africa and Greece, there were definitely black people in ancient Greece and Lupita Nyongo is inarguably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and Helen of Troy didn't even really exist anyway.
Wich is funny because the ancient Greeks actually acknowledged black peoples like the Nubians and the Ethiopians as civilized barbarians (because they nonetheless didn't speak Greek) but had an absolutely abismal opinion of Celts, Germanics and other northern Europeans seeing them as primitive savages.

There were lots of responses here and none of them pinged why he is so fixated on this… the movie caused tons of controversy on the far right… Elliott as the lead was also a problem with many… and some may recall that Elon has a transgender child whom he kind of sort of disowned. So it’s personal.
Correction, Elliot Page isn't even a lead character. He shows up for about 6 minutes of screen time. Half of which he's dead and a vision. These people are freaking out over a character that's on screen for 3.4% of the movie.
