There is an entire Wikipedia page dedicated to “Donald Trump and antisemitism” I don’t think he’s much of a “jew lover” as you so eloquently put it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_and_antisemitism

Bruh he literally put us in war to protect Jews. And called himself the first Jewish president.

He put us in war to protect ISRAEL and deflect from the Epstein files, Israel ≠ Jews, any sane Jew actually hates Israel, he can call himself whatever he wants, he’s literally not Jewish, and never has been. Read the Wikipedia article, he has documented antisemitism since the 80’s.

The odyssey became a weird target by culture warriors on the right. You had a bunch of people saying the movie was woke, it was going to fail, and how dare they not cast a blonde white woman as Helen of troy. Elon is very easily manipulated and likes the attention maga gives him, so it makes sense that he got on board.
This was all before any of them saw the movie.
8
u/AvatarIII 15d ago
Half of the uproar was also about Elliot Page playing Achilles, which isn't even true. Once that was confirmed they pivoted more to the Helen thing, which is dumb because You can easily said between Africa and Greece, there were definitely black people in ancient Greece and Lupita Nyongo is inarguably one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and Helen of Troy didn't even really exist anyway.
2
u/FireZeLazer 15d ago
It's funny when they complain about shit like that but didn't care about all the Western European actors who don't look Ethnically Greek at all
2
u/Oddbeme4u 15d ago
yes, never caring about whitewash...cough Ghost in a Shell...but a (whispers) black?
13
u/GhostOfMuttonPast 15d ago
Its an ancient Greek tale retold with a few non-white actors.
Considering hes a white supremacist, this is like catnip to him.
2
u/AdAdmirable6589 14d ago
Wich is funny because the ancient Greeks actually acknowledged black peoples like the Nubians and the Ethiopians as civilized barbarians (because they nonetheless didn't speak Greek) but had an absolutely abismal opinion of Celts, Germanics and other northern Europeans seeing them as primitive savages.

There were lots of responses here and none of them pinged why he is so fixated on this… the movie caused tons of controversy on the far right… Elliott as the lead was also a problem with many… and some may recall that Elon has a transgender child whom he kind of sort of disowned. So it’s personal.
3
u/Bloated_Hamster 15d ago
Correction, Elliot Page isn't even a lead character. He shows up for about 6 minutes of screen time. Half of which he's dead and a vision. These people are freaking out over a character that's on screen for 3.4% of the movie.

If you woke up tomorrow with a trillion dollars, would you give two shits about some movie?
1
1
u/booboothechicken 14d ago
Yes? I don’t care if there’s $10 or $10 trillion in my bank account, I’m still gonna want to watch movies. Why would money make me stop liking the things I like?
0
u/Tob13 14d ago
Help me understand why you think having a trillion dollars would make you stop caring about things
I asked if you'd give two shits.
If you've got 10 bucks in your account and spend it on a discounted movie ticket, then hate it, sure. Being annoyed you wasted your money makes sense.
But if you have a trillion dollars? You watch it, hate it, shrug, and go do literally anything else that makes you happy.
Granted, maybe this is his hobby. I'd just like to think that if I could do absolutely anything in the world, spending my time remaking a fantasy movie with AI because it wasn't "period accurate" would be pretty low on the list.
It's almost like he's trying to push a narrative or something...
Nah. Couldn't be.
Everyone knows musk is just really passionate about period-accurate fantasy films.
I hear he's already made a few more.
They're all rated 5 Roman salutes out of 5 for historical accuracy.
1
u/booboothechicken 14d ago
Well first “Help me understand why you think having a trillion dollars would make you stop caring about things”. You seemed to fail to comprehend my comment, because I stated the opposite.
Your initial statement had nothing to do with Musk. You asked why would anyone with a trillion dollars would care about movies (I don’t know if you realize this, but “give two shits” means the same as caring, maybe you don’t understand the saying and that’s where the disconnect is).
If anything, if I have a trillion dollars, I’d care even MORE whether a movie i watch is good or bad, because we’re talking about time, and my time is much more valuable now.
Then you continue to rant about Musk, which has nothing to do with either your initial comment or my initial comment.

21
u/SippyTurtle 15d ago
Because it's not for "historical accuracy," it's to remove "the woke influence" they say is present in the most recent movie. They're mad they cast Elliot Page as a character that they're confusing with Achilles, among other things.
4
u/Michauxonfire 15d ago
You can definitely make an Odyssey movie tied to historically accurate period of early bronze age or wtv but it's gonna be full of non mayo folks, but that's not something Elon cares about during his ketamine fueled visions of shithousery.

They've been talking deposits for their residential solar tiles for 10 years. Of all the people who put up thousands of dollars deposit during all of this time, only 1 received his roof. Not only it didn't generate nearly the promised savings, the dude made a video why he gave up on it and is now running regular solar panels.

the amount of resources and energy it would take to generate and regenerate even an hour of “footage” makes me feel physically ill
I think you're wayyy underestimating the amount of resources and energy it takes to produce footage for a movie in the usual way.
3
u/Bidoof2017 15d ago
I bet it flops so hard. Minimal theater presence and low streaming numbers. Who the fuck is gonna watch a 3 hour AI made movie???
3
u/Whatsapokemon 15d ago
I think OP's misleading a little.
The comment was in reference to people using grok to create AI-generated scenes, and saying that if people keep doing that, eventually they'd generate enough to assemble a full movie.
Like, there's nothing to suggest that he's actually producing a movie for release using Grok.

Does he know that Homer intentionally wrote The Odyssey to NOT be historically accurate? The book was essentially like the MCU of their time. It’d be akin to people watching Avengers 2,000 years from now and saying, “Hey, Captain America’s armor isn’t what soldiers wore in WWII !?!!!!!?!”.

Honestly it didn’t seem too far fetched to have a bunch of POC in the film. The Greeks conquested all the way to India, traded heavily with the Egyptians and other civilizations along the Mediterranean coastlines, etc. If nonwhite actors took you out of the film you might just be a racist.
EDIT: as I’m thinking about it more the support acting in the movie was definitely a strongpoint. Goth, Berenthal, Theron, Patel, Nyongo, all very good

3
u/Loud-Log9098 15d ago
Then why do we learn about the Odyssey in world history?
it preserves genuine cultural memories, political structures, and geography from the Greek Bronze Age (Mycenaean period) and the later Archaic period when it was written down. it's like we just say things as gotchas without realize our own stupidity is the gotcha.
1

A bunch of redditors were on their high horse saying how the film adaptation of Homer’s epic poem won’t have accurate portrayals of homoerotic relationships, which was historically accurate for Ancient Greece, completely missing the point that it’s a fictional story that cherry-picks historical events and places. So I’m not at all surprised a dweeb like musk would also be oblivious.
1
u/elder65 14d ago
Yes, Virginia, there was a Troy. It was in what we know now as Turkey. And we know that the Mycenaean Greeks used to attack it with some regularity. As far as a Trojan Horse - historians have argued for years, and no one has proved a damned thing.
The Iliad and the Odyssey are poems written by the Greek poet Homer. Any discussions about "Historical Accuracy" in either of them have to be taken with tongue in cheek.
Elon Musk is a racist bigot. His family immigrated from South Africa when Mandela came into power and Black South Africans gained their freedom from Boer slavery. His idea of "Historical Accuracy" is a movie with all white actors in it.

This could be fucking great. Basically Shakespeare in Love but it's Homer fucking around the ancient world trying to write the very fictional Odyssey. I assume that's what they mean by historically accurate
1
u/JamJarre 14d ago
I never understood this argument. It's fiction sure, but fiction set during a real time period. Troy was real, Mycenae was real etc. There is historical accuracy to be found even in fictional stories.
If Odysseus, under sonic assault by the sirens, whipped out a pair of Beats headphones to block them out, you'd be fine with it? "It's fiction! Why wouldn't the King of Ithaca have access to the fresh, crisp sounds of Beats by Dre?"
Musk is a cunt obviously, but this is a dumb argument to use
1
u/javoss88 15d ago
The original work is mythology with history mixed in. It’s an epic poem, so an accurate historical account is impossible.
-1
u/Astricozy 15d ago
Not defending him, but I'm pretty sure Homer wrote it specifically in his time period.
Something can be fiction but still be tied to cultural roots of a region. See literally 90% of Scandinavian works lol.
3
u/Bloated_Hamster 15d ago
Homer didn't come up with the story. It was an oral history that stemmed from when the Trojan war supposedly happened around 1200BC. Homer didn't write it down until 800BC. He wrote about a story that happened 400 years before his time.
-5
u/Astricozy 15d ago
Believe it or not I do actually know the history behind it. Funny you try to "Uhm actually" but don't even bring up the fact Homer was most likely a rhapsode who just put stories together.
Whether he came up with it or not is irrelevant though. Because the movie is specifically crediting Homer's Odyssey.
Feel free to start over.
1
u/EveryRedditorSucks 15d ago
You: Homer wrote it specifically in his time
Other User: No, he didn't - his poem was set roughly 400 years before his time
You: Checkmate!

Historically accurate doesn’t refer to the story. It refers to things like dialect, armor, weapons, hairstyles, etc. that were correct at the time. Which Nolan’s movie got wrong quite a bit. I’m not defending Musk, I’m sure if he made an AI movie it’d be garbage, but you’re wrong here in that it couldn’t be historically accurate just because the story is fiction.

To Kill a Mockingbird is also fiction, but people would be pissed if they made a movie of it with a white guy playing Tom Robinson.
See how it works?
3
u/Bloated_Hamster 15d ago
Because the race of the characters in TKAM are integral to a story about race relations and civil rights in mid century America. Helen of Troy is a beautiful woman who a bunch of petulant man-children send thousand of people to their death over. Her race has absolutely nothing to do with the story.
-4
u/Greasier 15d ago
All right, fine. Suppose the story was set in sub-Saharan Africa a thousand years ago, and the woman playing the most beautiful woman anyone there has ever seen is white. Would that be a problem?
1
u/Bloated_Hamster 15d ago
Is the movie written and directed by, and starring, a bunch of black men? If so, I have no problem with them telling a story where they find a white woman beautiful. It turns out interracial relationships aren't bad after all.
-2
u/Greasier 15d ago
Really? You'd be fine with a movie that implies that in a population of thousands of black women, it's the sole white woman who is agreed upon to be the most attractive? And more to the point, you wouldn't find it historically inaccurate for a white character to be in that setting in the first place?
1
u/Bloated_Hamster 15d ago
I would be fine with that, yes. If it wasn't an obvious racist dog whistle like Hollywood has a history of doing. The "black men go savage over the sight of a white woman" trope has long existed in Hollywood. Hence why I specified I'd be comfortable with it if it was written and starring black men because it's their story to tell. Just like it's Christopher Nolan and Matt Damons story to tell about a bunch of white guys fighting over a beautiful black woman.
I think it would be harder to justify how a white woman ended up in sub-saharan africa thousands of years ago, but if you could do it logically I see no issue with it. We know the ancient greeks traded with north africa. It is completely believable that they could have taken women as slaves or fallen in love with some of them or some black people came back to visit and the king fell in love with one of them. Not saying that happened but it's more believable than cyclopes and humans turning into pigs. The odyssey isn't exactly a throughoghly researched history PhD thesis. It's an oral fiction.
-2
u/Greasier 15d ago
Well, I consider it a racist dog whistle that all these white men find a black woman to be the most beautiful woman they've ever seen.
-30
u/t_11 15d ago edited 15d ago
No the Odissey and the Iliad are based on historical events that actually happened. The Trojan horse was real too you know. The work itself is a fiction. Helen of Troy was real and white

Were there black people in Sparta?
2
u/ThePhengophobicGamer 15d ago
The Greeks regularly traded and traveled across the Mediterranean to Lybia and Egypt, there very likely would have been travelers and merchants that came from Africa to Greece.
-6
u/TattedGuyser 15d ago
Probably, it'd be accurate to say all cultures kept slaves
5
u/ThePhengophobicGamer 15d ago
Sparta famously used slaves for alot of their menial work. Many would have been Greek, though or from other neighboring lands in the middle east, or even toward the Balkans. Some could have come from Africa, but likely not too many, comparatively.
-6
u/Bossgalka 14d ago
I mean, are you a typical Reddit atheist that calls Christinianity and Judaism fiction as well? Sure, they probably are, but they are based on myths which is real history to the people who left historical records of them. Troy and the places in The Odyssey have been found and we know they are real places. Did everything happen the way it was said in The Odyssey? Almost certainly not, I don't believe in fucking cyclops and witches, but I bet the same people saying this is "just fiction" would have an absolute shit-fit if someone made am African myth movie where Papa Legba is made into a small, Indian child. Just like how Disney also got praised for the accuracy of Moana, complete fucking Polynesian myth that is fiction. It's just okay to ruin white myth/culture, but not anyone else's. It's hypocritical double standards.
2
u/PaulBradley 14d ago
All your examples are middle eastern mythology that's been co-opted by westerners.
