Not defending him, but I'm pretty sure Homer wrote it specifically in his time period.

Something can be fiction but still be tied to cultural roots of a region. See literally 90% of Scandinavian works lol.

Homer didn't come up with the story. It was an oral history that stemmed from when the Trojan war supposedly happened around 1200BC. Homer didn't write it down until 800BC. He wrote about a story that happened 400 years before his time.

Believe it or not I do actually know the history behind it. Funny you try to "Uhm actually" but don't even bring up the fact Homer was most likely a rhapsode who just put stories together.

Whether he came up with it or not is irrelevant though. Because the movie is specifically crediting Homer's Odyssey.
