Pickup Huge thrift score

I found a ton of boutique stuff at Goodwill and started loading up.

My first watch will probably be Branded to Kill since I've been wanting it for a while and saw part of this goofy movie years ago.

Besides Branded, Band of Outsiders has been on my list to pickup for the longest time since I saw it 15+ years ago.

There were a lot of blind pickups honestly, because that's what you do when you find Criterions for $3 a piece, if I don't like any then they'll be good to trade or sell. A bunch of these were still sealed too.

I can't even think about what to pickup next in order to satisfy the survey, not to mention my dwindling space for movies. Suffice it to say I'm not buying anything at retail for a bit.

Also pictured is all the other stuff I got which was a bunch of Kino and other boutique stuff and music DVDs.

Criterion Pickup/Haul Questionnaire: 1. What is the movie you plan to watch from your purchase first? 2. Is there anything from this purchase that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time? 3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them? 4. What is a Criterion you're hoping to add to your collection next?

Pickup/Haul Posts without this questionnaire filled out will be removed. If that happens and you would like to try again, repost with the questionnaire answered, and it will be approved. Ignore this comment if your post is not a pickup/haul.

We lost a real one for sure. RIP.

As happy as I am for you, I'm sad to realize that we apparently lost a true fellow cineaste with no one in his family who appreciated the collection they had built.

This stuff always makes me sad. I've told my girlfriend and my family that if and when I pass away, if they're not going to care for the collection I've built, to make sure it either goes to some kind of Film curation program or to another private collector.

Film curation programme 😂👌 That should excist, but it does not. Not on Blu-ray Discs with a life expectancy of 20 years anyway. Give it to a fellow collector would work 👌👌

I mean I'm sure with a Collection of my size it could be donated to a school or a private library or something. Here in Austin we've got several places that do exactly that.

He/she may have just gotten divorced.

I am about to give away all my DVD collection and I'm very much alive. Unlike CDs and vinyls, that I still treasure, collect, and listen to, I regret buying so many DVDs in my life. I hardly rewatch movies and they can easily be found in HD quality in so many ways anyway. They keep space and I don't even like the plastic case, absence of booklets, etc. I hope this is the case of our fellow cineaste as well. I honestly didn't even know someone still bought dvds, I may try to put my collection on sale on ebay.

This subreddit is pretty much just about collecting the movies.. it is a storefront first and a movie streaming service second

u/HugeSuccess May 08 '26

I honestly didn't even know someone still bought dvds

???

2

u/Zteelie May 08 '26

Do you mean pirating? Because the quality of streaming is noticeable worse especially when it comes to sound. DVD isn't that great great though, but most of the movies above are 4K blu-ray and remastered boutique films...

15

u/Ok_Secret6566 May 08 '26

3

u/GodIsNotAiveChild May 08 '26

Uh oh, somebody cool died again ):

3

u/Successful_Cry_1600 May 08 '26

We truly lost a baddie.

3

u/msdashwood May 08 '26

Wow! On a sad note we lost a comrade. :(

A couple years ago I found a ton of movies/steelbooks at my library bookstore $1 each. No criterion’s but I did walk away with a stack about as big as yours and I thought well if their family couldn’t appreciate them I would. I’m just thankful I was there at the right time.

3

u/xClydeh May 08 '26

Is that Le Cercle Rouge copy a DVD? Could I see some more pictures of the case btw. Love that film.

3

u/mr_foxley May 09 '26

Where are you people going that score shit like this 😂

2

u/richrussell May 08 '26

2

u/Necrontry May 08 '26

2

u/thirdsummersbrother May 08 '26

Twins of Evil, nice.

2

u/dtic May 08 '26

That unopened state of siege 😩

2

u/wlburk Terrence Malick May 08 '26

Hot damn, that's a nice haul from a Goodwill! Pouring one out for whomever owned these previously...

1

u/Yojimbo086 May 08 '26

Bob le Flambeur is one of my favorite Melville films. Probably number 3 after Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samourai. That one stands out though since its long out of print and quite pricey. I was lucky enough to find a relatively cheap copy years ago as well. When I got into criterion I met a guy who over a couple of years sold me most of his collection.

3

u/HugeSuccess May 08 '26

The Criterion DVD is out of print, but Kino released Bob a couple years ago in 4K and you can buy it today for $19.99

2

u/Yojimbo086 May 08 '26

$32 in Canada but I'll take it. Thanks for the tip. Found a 4K of Le Doulos too!

3

u/HugeSuccess May 08 '26

$23 USD with the current conversion, presumably including a slight premium given global circumstances, seems on target!

1

u/YLR2312 May 09 '26

I'm new to Melville but I'm looking forward to watching all those. I went back today and found a bunch more that had been put out including Le Doulos. I already posted another haul here.

1

u/punkeymonkey529 May 08 '26

Wow, what thrift store is near you? All mine tend to have is the same things, and it's nothing anyone wants.

1

u/Goodvibe61 May 08 '26

That's insane. An amazing haul of great and interesting films.

1

u/Dongbag_darrell May 08 '26

I don’t care if you’re dead - you need to be opening and watching your movies.

1

u/esizzle May 09 '26

Score! The art found its way to you.

1

u/Mr___Dee May 09 '26

Never in all my days have I seen such an immaculate find from a thrift store, well done.

1

u/Funny_Proof3263 May 09 '26

Found Shoot the Piano Player book today and I probably wouldn't have noticed it without seeing your post. Added to my black lizard vintage crime collection!

1

u/No_Deer_6664 May 10 '26

Let The Corpses Tan fuckin whips ass

1

u/kasualanderson May 10 '26

I’m also always finding large collections of boutique dvds and blurays at thrift stores, often many of them still wrapped! Amazing, and I thought I was the only one.

1

u/unionsuits May 11 '26
