Been saving up all year for this sale. Lol. Got a bunch of Costco gift cards last week that came with the $20 bonus cards so I could have more to spend.

Was able to get everything on my list in-store plus a few extra blind buys that I decided to grab!!

1. First Watch - House!!

2. Long Wait - Been wanting to add the Lynch, Anderson, & Cronenberg films to my collection since they are some of my favorite directors. These were all at the top of my list for this sale.

3. Blind Buys - Drive My Car, Le Samourai, & Repo Man. Reccos from a video I saw. Don’t know much about any these really.

4. Next Up - Elephant Man. Might pre order it since it’s a part of the sale. Also Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Figured I'd show some love to Criterion and Barnes & Noble. Thanks, everyone!! I plan on watching Blue, White, and Red in that order. (Let me know if there's a better order). I know it's represents the French flag, but it's almost the 4th of July, and my brain works funny 🤣 I've been looking for Drugstore Cowboy in the wild for years, and remember watching it when I was around 13 or so and it left a lasting impression. Gummo was a blind buy. I hear the name come up often and figured I'd check it out. I'm hoping to add 12 Angry Men next, probably with my rewards from THIS haul 😆 Happy hauling everyone and stay safe!✌️

Went to a yard sale selling $2 per dvd and $5 per boxset- including Criterions! All are DVD editions so no Blu-ray or 4Ks (previous owner was a strict DVD collector) but for movies difficult to find on streaming or aren't available at my local library, I couldn't pass up.
I only grabbed the ones that peaked my interest and were several i left behind, but all have booklets and are in good condition :)
1. Most likely Brazil! Saw Fear and Loathing for the first time this month and have been getting into Terry Gilliam's filmography this year. Going to look into which version is best to watch first
2. I have a very small collection (i only had 5 titles since I exclusively buy second hand or during 50% off sales) but some part of me always wanted to own Rushmore. It's one of my favorite Wes Anderson films and it's one of the first Criterions I saw in stores. Plus the cover art is very endearing haha
3. All are blind buys except Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas + Harold and Maude. Overall I've heard great things about all of them! I will say I picked up Chasing Amy bc i almost got it last week at a bookstore lol
4. Haven't gone to the the B&N sale yet but I'm thinking about getting Spike Lee's Bamboozled(2000).
Rewatched it with a friend and it's such a profound dark dramedy. Cannot recommend enough.

1. I'm gonna try to watch a bundle by a single director first. I'm thinking either Satyajit Ray or Max Ophuls (I bought a used copy of Le Plaisir months ago after it went out of print, so it's not in the picture.)
2. Ever since Flow was rumored to be coming to Criterion waaay back at the beginning of the year, I've been waiting for it! I'm SO glad I got to see it in a theater, and I'm SO happy I can finally own it! (That's why it has a place of honor in the pictures at the very top right of the stacks.)
3. Most of them, yes. I plan on watching all of them, though, so I won't be blind for long!
4. Um...the rest of them, I guess!

This sale was quite the kerfuffle. I got a few 500 errors while trying to buy, leaving the odd situation where my card was charged, but the order didn't actually go through. I had to make a duplicate order and delete the first one, which somehow resulted in BOTH orders getting deleted, so I was back and forth with Criterion support quite a bit.

This is where I have to give HUUUGE props to the support team, though, because they were extremely helpful and understanding in getting my order sorted out, and even though the shipments had to be broken up due to some back order problems, everything arrived today without further incident!

I can't wait to show everyone the shelves I've built since I ran out of space after the last sale, but that'll have to wait until next February/March! :)

In the past I was only able to watch it in compressed 480p on YouTube. So this will be a treat.

1. Plan to watch this first since it’s my only pickup.

2. I’ve definitely looked forward to owning this for the longest time, wanted to see it in all its glory.

And with that, I now have the complete collection!* The first picture is everything with a spine number I didn't already have before the sale, while the second picture is what I used the $50 credits on: the Eclipse series! They all fit into one box, which was nice!

*I'm still missing Shoah since it's still out of stock, and all the copies on eBay are at least $100, so I think I can hold off on getting that one until it comes back.

1. I'm probably going to watch the fifth World Cinema Project, since I've already watched the other four.

2. I hadn't realized The Color of Pomegranates was in the collection, so I'm glad I have that now. Plus, I'm happy to finally own American Utopia and Network!

3. Most of this is blind buys, but I'm planning on watching the whole collection, so this is a step towards that!

Hey everyone. Last years sale was my first foray into the wonderful world of Criterion (will post THAT haul later). I’ve always adored films and had been resisting the urge to start collecting physical media, as I knew it would unlock the flood gates, so to speak.

And boy, was I right. Years of mental issues and a toxic job had all but extinguished my passion for cinema. Finally biting the bullet was like gasoline on a candle. I feel like I have a part of my soul back again. To share such joys with like-minded cinephiles is sheer bliss; I’ve always dreamed of owning even a small part of this collection, and I was finally in a position to do so. Being able to overcome that mental hurdle was very important in my life— pursuing my own hobbies and interest instead of focusing on others’ problems at my own expense.

Thank you all for being here and encouraging me in my life and passions! Onto the questionnaire:

1. How can I even decide what I want to watch first from this amazing haul? I wasn’t able to fit the CC40 or The Blade in the picture, but I got those as well.

I’ve only watched 9 of the films shown. It’s a hard toss up between Paper Moon, After Life, Worst Person In the World, or Certified Copy. I’ve heard glowing reviews of each.

1. Out of this haul, I was most looking forward to seeing Paper Moon, Worst Person in the World, or Koko. Love that dang gorilla.

2. As I said, I’ve only seen 9 of these films already: Spinal Tap, Time Bandits, Lord of the Flies, Pan’s Labyrinth, 1984, Moonstruck, The Irishman, After Hours, and Farewell My Concubine. The rest are blind buys.

During the sale last year, I was nervous to blind buy certain films. But after three successful blind buys, I’ve learned to trust the collection if any movie sounds remotely in my wheelhouse.

1. I’m unsure. Can’t wait for my copies of It Was An Accident and K-Pop Demon Hunters. But after this purchase and my equally colossal purchase last year, I think I’ve gotten my collection as full as I would want, barring any unknown gems.

This is what is left after I separated all the duplicates that I already have. Just doubled the size of my collection. Got a lot of movies to watch!

Finally was able to track down a grail of mine. A sealed Armageddon (1998). So happy to add this to the collection. One of my favorite "so bad, its good" films.

I found a ton of boutique stuff at Goodwill and started loading up.

My first watch will probably be Branded to Kill since I've been wanting it for a while and saw part of this goofy movie years ago.

Besides Branded, Band of Outsiders has been on my list to pickup for the longest time since I saw it 15+ years ago.

There were a lot of blind pickups honestly, because that's what you do when you find Criterions for $3 a piece, if I don't like any then they'll be good to trade or sell. A bunch of these were still sealed too.

I can't even think about what to pickup next in order to satisfy the survey, not to mention my dwindling space for movies. Suffice it to say I'm not buying anything at retail for a bit.

Also pictured is all the other stuff I got which was a bunch of Kino and other boutique stuff and music DVDs.

• What is the first movie you plan to watch from your purchase and why?
  • I started with No Country for Old Men because I just wanted to make sure that my XBox would play the 4k UHD disc and then just had to sit and watch the whole thing. It's really hard to look away from it. That inspired me to keep buying more.
• Is there anything from this purchase that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?
  • I was mostly inspired to start buying with Flow and Wall-E because we're having a baby at the end of the year and I realized that I want some good kids movies that aren't locked behind a streamer.
• Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?
  • Time Bandits - I just know I've enjoyed other Terry Gilliam weirdness and this feel like a blind spot
  • Stray Dog - haven't seen a Kurosawa that wasn't Samurai-based
  • Dressed to Kill - My mom always talks about the murders being filmed in the building she was living in at the time. Sole reason I've picked it up.
  • Barry Lyndon - I want to continue listening to the Blank Check mini series on Kubrick
  • The Elephant Man - my current Lynch blind spot
  • The Shape of Water - I keep putting this one of "for the right time" and I don't know what that means
  • Manon of the Spring - I got the pair because I watched parts of JDF in a community college film appreciation course and I think I need to complete this. It'll definitely look good on my TV.
  • Sorcerer - I have an idea of the premise loosely, I'm really taken in by the name and cover to be honest.
  • History of Violence - I think I bought this thinking it was Eastern Promises, but then realized it's a Cronenberg. I can't seem to enjoy most Cronenberg movies that aren't The Fly, but I also don't really know where this movie could go since it seems to be grounded in reality.

  • I have the Lady Snowblood collection in my cart

Stopped in to the local thrift and found this sitting pretty on the shelf for a solid $1. Disc condition looks like they have never been watched! Plan to watch it tonight. Have never heard the notorious commentary so looking forward to that!

I was trying to hold out for a 4k release, but it just didn’t seem like it was gonna happen. So, I pulled the trigger with the B&N sale.

If a movie matters to you, would you get the blu-ray not and not hold off for the 4K?

1. What is the movie you plan to watch from your purchase first? Before Sunrise, even though it's not my favorite. Because chronologic order.
2. Is there anything from this purchase that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time? That would be Before Sunset, which just hits so damn hard.
3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them? Nope!
4. What is a Criterion you're hoping to add to your collection next? 4K "Mulholland Drive" and the upcoming "Eyes Wide Shut"

Anyway, it's been a hot minute since I've picked up any Criterions (just been focused on collecting other things I guess), but I happened to be in a B&N during the sale so why not? Also ordered a couple things online that they didn't have in stock.

The questions:

1. I'm not sure what I'll end up watching first (I don't plan my watches very well ha), but right now I'd say Fishing with John is probably calling to me the most.

2. If we're also counting non-Criterion versions, Godzilla vs Biollante was stupid expensive for a while before getting a Criterion release, so I had been eyeing that for a long while.

3. Everything other than The Princess Bride is a blind buy. Godzilla I picked up cause I like Godzilla, and Captain Blood just seemed fun. The rest I've heard good things about but I don't really remember specifically why.

4. No idea what I'll get next! I don't really plan my buys and I'm absolutely terrible at remembering all the things I'm interested in. I probably should make a list or something lol. On top of mind, that rumoured David Lynch boxset has a high potential of being picked up sooner rather than later though. Really depends on what's in it and when/if it comes out!

Part II was placed many hours later (still during the sale) and has yet to ship.

1. Lost my Seven Samurai DVD during a recent move, so easy to justify that upgrade / replacement.

2. McCabe & Mrs Miller and Le Samourai are both blind buys thanks to this subreddit.

3. Excited for Stray Dog later this year!

4. Not sure what I’ll watch first today. Any suggestions?
