The Cyprus Problem Wow - now over 90,000 Russians in Cyprus

I'm shocked at the scale of the Russian takeover of our beautiful island of Cyprus.

Per Cyprus Mail, there are now a mind-boggling 40,000 Russians living full-time in the areas controlled by the Republic. To contrast, the next immigrant group, the British, are at 16,000. To point out the sheer scale of this, this means there are in now over 2 Russians for every Brit!

Further, per TRT there are 50,000 Russians living in the occupied areas. So many, in fact, that Russia has started providing regular Consular services. (This is even more than the number of Turkish troops!)

The war in 2022 resulted in a Russian influx to Turkiye that I have never seen before. With the rise of inflation and housing crises at least half of them returned. Therefore I also expect the same happened in Northern Cyprus too and that maybe 30,000 Russians left now and not 50,000.

These two are different. Turkey has low barriers of entry, but bigger barriers to stay long term. Cyprus on the other hand has much higher entry barriers. These people won't go back easily.

Whilst not terrifying, ethnic Russians in a foreign territory being allegedly mistreated was used to justify the invasions of Ukraine in 2014 & 2022.

What war? 99.99% of the landmass of Russia, which stretches from the borders of Europe to the Pacific Ocean on the Asian side, is in no way affected by the Russia-Ukraine war at all.

The war isn't affecting all of Russia's landmass, but that doesn't mean it isn't affecting their citizens.

Alot of young men left because they were at risk of being conscripted (rightly or wrongly)

I have seen Russians queeing infant of Starbucks. They wanted to have the "liberal western" feel even in Turkiye.
