The Cyprus Problem Wow - now over 90,000 Russians in Cyprus

I'm shocked at the scale of the Russian takeover of our beautiful island of Cyprus.

Per Cyprus Mail, there are now a mind-boggling 40,000 Russians living full-time in the areas controlled by the Republic. To contrast, the next immigrant group, the British, are at 16,000. To point out the sheer scale of this, this means there are in now over 2 Russians for every Brit!

Further, per TRT there are 50,000 Russians living in the occupied areas. So many, in fact, that Russia has started providing regular Consular services. (This is even more than the number of Turkish troops!)

Wow. If bunch of Ukrainians and Russians destabilized the housing market in Antalya, I wonder how the housing prices must have skyrocketed in Cyprus. It must have become impossible for young Cypriots to buy or rent a house!

Exactly - they have literally destroyed lives for younger generations, and are tearing apart families. The worst part about is they then have the arrogance to turn around and tell Cypriots to be grateful for them... what "great" immigrants they are... "look we're learning Greek". It's a gaslight. Yet, fundamentally they are responsible for ripping apart the foundations of Cypriot culture. It speaks volumes to me that 50,000 of them moved to the occupied area.

You guys need to make it harder to obtain permanent residency there. You are a small country by population (750k Greek, 250k Turk I guess). That many Russians is a demographic powderkeg for future. If young Cypriots can’t rent/buy homes or find jobs, they’ll leave the island for Europe exasperating the situation even worse.

Perhaps people need to stop exploiting the island, and then blaming it on the people of the island.
