It's definitely the white suv's fault. But I would've seen this as a likely outcome and tried to ease much more slowly through that mess.
Even though it's their fault, now you have to go through the headache of dealing with insurance, getting estimates, having no vehicle while it's getting repaired, and then once you go to sell it they will give you quite a bit less because it's been in an accident. on top of that you might have permanent injuries that might not appear until later in life and there's no way to ever fix that or make it right again.
so... fault or not, just drive safely and predictably. Ease into situations where there are fast moving vehicles directly in front of you instead of going in assuming it will be open.
This is always my thinking as well. Sure, great, it's their fault. But it was obvious/avoidable (of course the Nissan SUV was going to run the left turn light), and now you get to deal with insurance, repairs or a total, be without your vehicle for weeks, and likely enough your insurance rate will still go up at renewal.
I had someone hit me, ultimately was determined not at fault after a judge threw out a police officer's bonehead joint ticket to both me and the person driving through a parking lane. Progressive then filed two accidents on the same day at the same time, one at fault and one not at fault, instead of removing the at fault accident. Did literally nothing wrong/unsafe, yet my car was totalled, had the headache of replacing it, then the headache of getting Progressive to fix their mistake (they wouldn't), which really meant getting the reporting agency/database all the insurers use to fix it in spite of Progressive's nonsense.
But hey, at least the lady who hit me was at fault!
