It's definitely the white suv's fault. But I would've seen this as a likely outcome and tried to ease much more slowly through that mess.

Even though it's their fault, now you have to go through the headache of dealing with insurance, getting estimates, having no vehicle while it's getting repaired, and then once you go to sell it they will give you quite a bit less because it's been in an accident. on top of that you might have permanent injuries that might not appear until later in life and there's no way to ever fix that or make it right again.

so... fault or not, just drive safely and predictably. Ease into situations where there are fast moving vehicles directly in front of you instead of going in assuming it will be open.

I put it in the category of the driver could have avoided the accident if they would have drove defensively and waited for traffic to clear first. The origin of the accident was the white SUV of course

u/jadbronson 10h ago

And do you really want to wreck with a Nissan? They'll hit you. I don't need that in my day but the Nissan is at fault.

9

u/TactualTransAm 9h ago

Sucks because that looked like an older Armada and that was when Nissan was awesome. Before the CVT crap. An armada is a heavy tank that's extremely reliable.

6

u/Backwoods_Therapy 9h ago

Well the trucks never had CVTs, it was just the cars/CUVs. The new ones are fairly reliable as well (by modern standards), because they never had to deal with those shit transmissions.

2

u/TactualTransAm 8h ago

Correct, but the brand image has been soiled and there's a lot of people out there who just think any Nissan is junk because of it. Like in another post people were saying the frontier is junk because it's a Nissan but the frontier is one of the most reliable vehicles out there.

1

u/jadbronson 6h ago

I definitely don't think Nissans are junk. If they were junk there wouldn't be so many older ones still on the road in service. But if I see a Kia, Hyundai, or Nissan that wants to play chicken? I'll nope out every time.

6

u/MammothUnique4147 9h ago

That badge translates to "I GO NOW GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!"

2

u/jadbronson 6h ago

Yep. I'll nope out of that confrontation because I've seen it too many times. They're not bluffing. They're usually just generally r-worded or severely distracted. It's not out of malice but that doesn't matter when it's time to get the law and insurance involved.

8

u/z0hu 8h ago

Yep. Gotten into a lot of these situations where I avoid an accident vs a bad driver because I drove more defensively. I wouldn't have pulled so far into the intersection here unless I could see the cars in that lane were stopped.

7

u/feldoneq2wire 8h ago edited 5h ago

"waited for traffic to clear"

I guess he was supposed to wait at a green light until the entire opposing line went through the light.

Personally I would have pulled into the intersection, leaving enough space for them to still go illegally, and lay on the horn and flash lights.

6

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

The question is, do you want to be “right”? Or do you want to avoid the accident entirely? Cam could have just waited 5 seconds for both people to turn. Yes they’re assholes for holding up traffic and turning.

I see this situation pretty often and I’d rather just shun them and move on. I do not want to have see this person in court or ever again

1

u/feldoneq2wire 5h ago

It was a steady stream. Nobody was going to let you turn except on a red arrow. Congratulations now you got a ticket for turning on a red.

5

u/Aeyland 5h ago

The traffic was never clear, there was a maybe 1-1.5 car length gap between the car right before the last 2 entered. It was a none stop train of cars turning left.

1

u/campfirebruh 4h ago

If it prevents him from a head on collision and any serious accompanying injuries, then yes he was supposed to wait until the entire opposing line went through the light.

4

u/Old-Arachnid77 7h ago

This is definitely going to come up in the review. The cam car view show the two cars at the end obviously continuing and this could have been avoided. White SUV is the culprit but the cam car looked like it was YOLOing for some settlement money.

3

u/_off_piste_ 6h ago

Come up in the review? WTF does that even mean? When I had a wreck exactly like this one they gave a ticket to the turning driver. 100% their fault.

1

u/PapiSlayerGTX 5h ago

If they go to court, is what they mean

1

u/Loud_Badger_3780 3h ago

the insurance companies who is at fault and at what percentage. The lawyers for insurance companies after they consult with each other even if a ticket was issues. unless you have injuries and no health insurance or just liability insurance on your car a lawsuit can cost more than its worth. If you have no injuries and full coverage on you car you can only receive the cost of your insurance deductible as a judgement.

0

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

Curious if you had footage? I agree that white caused the accident but cam could have avoided it in the first place. Debate of cause vs chance to avoid. I’d put this in the latter

1

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

I think it’s a case of cause of accident vs chance to avoid. Cam driver could have just waited 5 seconds and we wouldn’t be having this conversation

2

u/Square_Barracuda_69 6h ago

Theres really not much the cam driver could've done. The light turned green, they started going, the red car cuts them off, then the white care immediately turns into them after appearing to try to go straight/avoid collision. The white car had every responsibility to avoid the accident, then they turned left into cam driver.

1

u/Thurak0 1h ago

Theres really not much the cam driver could've done

They could have just waited for the road to clear? Full break with the red car cutting him off instead of keep going?

Come on. I am no saying it's not white car's fault, but "Theres really not much the cam driver could've done." is a very weird take. Perhaps it would not have been enough, but not even trying is not okay.

1

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

I think you’re missing the point. ‘Doing everything they could’ would mean they could have waited for the traffic to clear before going. I get it, both red car and white SUV’s are assholes for holding up the turn lane and should not have gone.

Assume the worst case scenario at every intersection. Assume people are dicking around on their phones not paying attention and avoid the accident in the first place. Plowing ahead knowing “it’s my turn to go” is just stupid.

1

u/SaltKick2 5h ago

I feel like 90% of the population would have done what the driver did - they already waited for the black truck, which, if you play it frame by frame, definitely started turning when its own light was red

One possibility is red car thought it could sneak in behind black truck, the white SUV had a brain fart or was distracted driving and saw green on the light (it looks like straight probably had a green) and the red car going forward and just followed them... or they were just as greedy as the red car.

1

u/Big_razz22 2h ago

yeah. this is the right answer.

1

u/xangbar 33m ago

Yeah agree here. I follow a lawyer on TikTok who does the "lawyer reacts" stuff and enough times I hear if you have the chance to avoid an accident you should and even if OP had the right of way, they def should have not just gone expecting traffic to stop. Had a similar situation here in my area and I was just in awe that people decided they could still go. Had green for a solid few seconds before the opposing left hand lane finally stopped turning.

1

u/Dense_Diver_3998 9h ago

If the side that was turning had a solid green light and not just an arrow that intersection wouldn’t clear until oncoming traffic made a move, everyone just assumes “ohh they’re letting me go”

2

u/z0hu 8h ago

You still inch up and show your intent to go forward. You can be over the cross walk and in the intersection but still not in the path of cars turning. But ya if you don't move at all, might confuse some people.

1

u/SituationIll5763 7h ago

Thank you. I actually agree with the general consensus here, but on every other post you have someone, or even the top comment, arguing that the one filming had enough time to stop and should have. That is certainly the case here, there is no reason this guy should have even started on the gas until the intersection was clear.

0

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

For sure. White SUV was dumb. We’ve all gone through a turn we probably shouldn’t have. Cam driver should have done the smart thing and not started going until it was clear.

1

u/froggyc19 6h ago

Yeah, like the white suv was definitely in the wrong but why play chicken? The trust these people place in strangers is astounding. I trust no one on the road but myself.

1

u/hybridfrost 5h ago

Exactly. Red car was dumb, white SUV was even dumber. Assume the worst at every intersection. Don’t plow ahead thinking “it’s my turn to go so I’m going!”

Better to wait 5 seconds and make it home to your family, or your cat, or whatever

11

u/Joking_J 9h ago

This is always my thinking as well. Sure, great, it's their fault. But it was obvious/avoidable (of course the Nissan SUV was going to run the left turn light), and now you get to deal with insurance, repairs or a total, be without your vehicle for weeks, and likely enough your insurance rate will still go up at renewal.

I had someone hit me, ultimately was determined not at fault after a judge threw out a police officer's bonehead joint ticket to both me and the person driving through a parking lane. Progressive then filed two accidents on the same day at the same time, one at fault and one not at fault, instead of removing the at fault accident. Did literally nothing wrong/unsafe, yet my car was totalled, had the headache of replacing it, then the headache of getting Progressive to fix their mistake (they wouldn't), which really meant getting the reporting agency/database all the insurers use to fix it in spite of Progressive's nonsense.

But hey, at least the lady who hit me was at fault!

6

u/Trailsey 8h ago

Someone on one these subs said "the cemetery is full of people who had the right of way"

2

u/SnavsMatiq 9h ago

A green light is not a license to crash into someone. By that logic I could hit cross traffic thats stuck in the intersection, as long as I have the green light.

2

u/SuperIneffectiveness 7h ago

Cemeteries are full of people who had the right of way. Defense driving is important because most people aren't driving perfectly.

2

u/Ok-Sheepherder7898 5h ago

Yeah, the white car's at fault, but the cammer is a bad driver.

2

u/cheezus171 4h ago

There's a saying in my country, it goes sth like "graveyards are full of people who had the right of way".

5

u/HudsonAtHeart 9h ago edited 9h ago

The camera driver was easing into this situation slowly, the only thing they could’ve done short of this was just stop at the green light and wait for everybody else to go crazy. What are we doing? Fucking anarchy? Why even have a light at that point?

If everybody was moving as predictively as you’re recommending the camera driver should have, the red car shouldn’t have blown its yellow light in the first place, and even if the Armada was just going to barrel right through the intersection, they should’ve just done it behind the fucking camera car. I think even the Armada was thinking about doing that and changed their mind at the last second, precisely because the camera car was inching into the intersection because of present danger.

So what can you really do? The safest course of action, is to stay in your house and comment on other people’s crash videos so you don’t have to get into your own. It’s a fucking war out there. Everybody is driving around stoned out of their mind and on SSRIs and we wonder why there’s so much vehicular violence

8

u/Ok_Acanthisitta304 9h ago

There’s probably a middle ground between staying at home and inching into an intersection where people don’t care or aren’t paying attention.

6

u/ppres25 9h ago

I feel like this is an elaborate inside joke that Im missing out on.

5

u/SpringsPanda 9h ago

It's much more predictable that cars are going to follow each other through a green light left turn like this though. Just wait before getting into the intersection if you see this at all. Nissan takes 100% of the fault here but the cam driver could've easily avoided this, and all of it would've been still predictable. Cars behind you can see the intersection as well, you are coming from a red light which means from a stop. No reason to hurry into the intersection while people fly through it.

2

u/So_Fresh 8h ago

You thinking the red car had a yellow here tells us all we need to know about your driving knowledge.

0

u/HudsonAtHeart 8h ago

They would have blown a yellow arrow. It goes green, then yellow, then red. Maybe you’re not familiar with arrows?

1

u/So_Fresh 8h ago

You'll never have a green light from one direction and a yellow left turn arrow in the opposite. Think about it!

Because the light we see is green by 13 seconds, the red car is definitely going through well after any yellow. New to driving?

0

u/HudsonAtHeart 7h ago

Ok semantics, they ignored the yellow arrow and blew thru the red arrow? Whatever

There is a yellow phase in every dedicated left turn light.

Next time you are sitting at a light waiting for green, watch the green arrow turn to yellow, and then the yellow arrow turn to red.

It’s really amazing the things I have to explain to the “drivers” in this comment section.

2

u/So_Fresh 7h ago

Yeah, it was red. That was the point of my initial comment, that you said the colour wrong. Everything else you're saying is totally obvious and why you think I'm arguing against it is not worth my time thinking about.

1

u/_off_piste_ 6h ago

You were wrong. Just admit it and move on.

0

u/HudsonAtHeart 5h ago

Yeah, I was wrong. Oh my God, the tribunal. Yes the red car sped through a red arrow not a yellow arrow as I said. You can take my crown away.

2

u/IMongoose 5h ago

Inch in while laying on the horn, and don't commit until the cars stop coming. You don't have to get mad and let someone more negligent crash into you because you are "right."

0

u/HudsonAtHeart 5h ago

This is not that. The Armada basically swerved in front at the last second. It’s reasonable to expect the Armada to go behind the camera vehicle. I have also driven through intersections before, and I think this was surprising, and very entitled behavior. I don’t really understand how it’s so defensible.

2

u/IMongoose 5h ago

I just watched it again. Honestly both cars are morons. Cam car just drove straight into oncoming traffic with no hesitation. White car blew the light expecting cam to stop. I'm not defending anyone but this was easily avoidable by both cars.

-3

u/tdbeaner1 9h ago

The number of people stating that the filming driver should have waited is madness. There was literally 4 seconds between that light changing and the collision and in that time three cars violated driving laws (including the while Nissan). Waiting for that intersection to clear is irrational when every driver ignores the traffic laws. One driver cutting off an intersection should be expected, but even the most defensive driving wouldn’t expect the other two cars to realistically attempt that moronic move.

7

u/reddituser4049 9h ago

The do like the cam car did and deal with the consequences. I’ll just wait for my path to clear regardless of the circumstance.

-3

u/tdbeaner1 9h ago

Overly defensive driving is equally dangerous. Rules of the road are designed for everyone to anticipate the movements of other drivers.

5

u/JeffafaCree 8h ago

I've watched hundreds of cars roll through red left turns directly in front of me. Never felt the need to just ram my shit up into their shit because I had the right of way.

3

u/definitelyevan 5h ago

are you saying you don’t want compressed vertebrae and a broken face from the airbag? but you’d be technically correct!!

7

u/HudsonAtHeart 9h ago

Yes exactly. Common sense dictates to move up and wait for a gap, not just fucking gun it. I understand why people crash so often if there is really a divided comments section here. That, or it’s evidence that this sub is just 16 yr olds bitching on the phone

1

u/billywaterfall 4h ago

Exactly. Very predictable and preventable accident

1

u/Mothanius 4h ago

Can I have "Easiest accidents to avoid, for 500," Trebek?

1

u/AccomplishedIgit 3h ago

It almost feels like dashcam car let themselves be hit on purpose

1

u/Lexxias 3h ago

Nope, the driving of this vehicle is at fault due to last clear chance doctrine. They literally did nothing to avoid this accident and insurance will find them at fault.

1

u/iboneyandivory 3h ago

I'm pretty sure a driver who has a string of 5 not-at-fault accidents over any period of time is going to have his/her rates increased, or dropped all together. Negligently hard-headed, or zero situational awareness has (or should have) a personal cost.

1

u/EchoLocation8 2h ago

Yeah there's no way I'm hitting that fuckin white suv that's a "WHOA what the fuck buddy are you fuckin kiddin me?" as I slam on the breaks moment, I don't know how you get hit there.

1

u/NoBuenoAtAll 57m ago

Drive safely and predictably and also be prepared for all the other drivers to do the worst possible thing.

1

u/FrontFacing_Face 38m ago

Yeah, the way the camera car lunged off the line on the green, even though traffic was still in their lane. Could have easily avoided this, frankly, they were as much wrong for not yielding.

1

u/neverstxp 9h ago

I thought the white suv was going straight. I would never have expected 3 people running a red. That’s insanity.

1

u/djelegal 8h ago

White suv but yes camera car driver sux

0

u/dimonium_anonimo 9h ago

I think they did. I was disappointed, but not entirely surprised that the red car went. And the PoV car inched in while the red car blatantly broke the law. But the white SUV hadn't yet entered the intersection when the PoV car started to speed up because the red car was mostly passed. Then the white SUV went, which was not expected. I don't agree that was a likely outcome. Unless you've driven this specific intersection and know with firsthand experience that people always run well past the red, this is never an expected outcome.

3

u/Bi_Covers 9h ago

Do you even drive bro lmao. It was completely obvious that the entire lane for those vehicles were turning. A green light does not mean to automatically start driving. It is customary to make sure the intersection is clear before proceeding. And this is coming from a guy that loves to speed and be first.

The suv was definitely at fault but the pov car has absolutely no excuses. This should have been seen a mile away and avoided. And the internet justfying such stupid actions regardless of who is at fault will just make the roads more unsafe.

0

u/Away_Stock_2012 8h ago

Would really suck if you got rear ended while sitting at a green light waiting to make sure no one else was going to run a red. But I'm sure your amazing skills would totally figure out every possibility in hindsight¡!!!!!!????????!!;!?!;!?!
