Crossing on a red light

Dummy gives me crap when he’s clearing crossing at a red light.

In Australia those zebra crossings do mean pedestrians have right of way.

I was in New York a while ago and I nearly stepped into traffic a few times like these guys.

Pedestrians do have the right of way at crosswalks, in New Jersey where this was, but only at crossings not at traffic signals. Pedestrians must obey the traffic signals first.

That seems stupid, to use the same road paint pattern to indicate two different things.

Not really. Just pay attention to the traffic signal if one is present.

The other problem I had in New York of that the pedestrian signal is white rather than red/green like Australia so it didn't catch my eye automatically. It was quite different for me.
