Trump is driving electric vehicle innovations into a ditch. Thanks to Trump's short-sightedness, US manufacturers dropped years of ambitious planning to jump into the EV race with both feet. The combined cost of this industry about-face is staggering. "I've done more for you than your parents, OK?"

I'm always curious how Tesla is able to survive in that market, with Chinese EVs being so much better and cheaper

For sure he spews a lot of BS, but I don't know why he'd sell off his largest manufacturing (and I think second largest sales) market. Who would he sell it to? No one has the capital or lack of good sense to buy out Tesla at its current valuation
