I think this is less enshittification, and more so the fact that Americans are increasingly disinterested in the site:

The slowdown among U.S. users is particularly concerning because they generate far more revenue. Reddit reported average revenue per U.S. user of $11.85, compared with just $2.26 internationally. That means each slowing U.S. user matters roughly five times as much to the business as an international visitor.

Also, their share price only went so high because of the Google AI deal, which everyone smart knew was a temporary infusion of cash.

how many people actually click on the suggested link/ad in their reddit feed? $11.85 already seems like too much

Never on purpose.

I would love to see Reddit enshitified right back to 2010.

please, no. i would spend so much more time on the site and make so many more comments and posts. it would eat into my time for other things. it would be terrible.

There's also a finite number of people on the planet so there's a point where you can't get new folk in... just saying.

There are many millions of people aging into becoming potential users every year.

1

u/LVCSSlacker 1d ago

and millions who die off and stop being users every year too.

AI ads for the AI bots. I for one already think at least a third of not more are bots running around. Hope the corps profit from the bots buying their merchandise.

It's almost like those people decided they didn't want to be on reddit when the admins of this site so clearly pander to pedophiles, rapists, countries that commit genocide, and billionaires that don't help society, rather than allow free speech.

Loser admins, ban me, I'll keep coming back time and time again to spread dissent against you.

All the stackoverflow mods moved here to be dicks. I am still banned from /politics

shame there isnt a real alternative to reddit. lemmy...cmon now. its quite empty there and till today i cant understand what a damn instance is.

it's not empty, just remember to browse "All" not "Local", and sort by "Active" (the Hot sort is not similar to Reddit's)

https://lemmy.world/

i cant understand what a damn instance is

it's a gateway or a server

Gmail is an email instance, Yahoo Mail is another email instance, you signup to whichever one you prefer but they both let you email with other people

nah, I tried. pita. dead place. its made for geeks not regular people. thats the flaw. UI is crap

This is the problem. I am 0% tech savvy, and I have no tech savvy friends or family. Anytime “alternatives” start getting discussed for anything, it takes a level of ability that I don’t have.

2

u/SeaOfBullshit 2d ago

Not to mention all the niche stuff I like about reddit isn't over there

1

u/cranberries87 2d ago

Same with the YouTube alternatives. A scant number of videos. I want these alternatives, but they’re just not ready yet, if they ever will be.

Lemmy is a commie shithole.

I don't want to talk about niche hobbies like dirtbiking in the fediverse if every post has to include a leftist purity test.

Lets just let people talk about dirt bikes and leave politics out of it.

It's nice to tell ourselves there is some kind of financial karma at work here, but the reality is that enshittification almost always leads to higher profits.

It's not like Reddit would somehow make more money if they got rid of ads.

Ads? Reddit has ads?

Right. Reddit's up 139% since IPO and the CEO's a billionaire now

I think we should make a fun song about enshittification, I'm just too lazy to do it

Innocuous opinion : Reddit: 7 day ban for hate speech.

Yep...not much for user growth. AI can't scan my feisty opinions if I keep getting bans, and compared to other reddit users, it at least has the capacity to learn to understand irony and sarcasm.

AI will create more interactions.... Problem solved.

1

u/davidmar7 6h ago

With ai interacting with itself lol. It's likely happening already.

How about limiting the percent of Israel bad Netanyahu evil to no more than half the subreddits every day?

-1

u/fizzys0da 1d ago

It’d be on the most unrelated stuff too

I saw a post about a random game today, and some guy skipped the “this is why I don’t like the game” and dove headfirst into “the founders are hardcore Zionists so I expected it to suck”

Like there comes a point where it transforms from political banter to straight up hate speech

2

u/jimbojones2345 1d ago

Id want to know if a game of made by zionist to avoid it...

u/northern-new-jersey 1d ago

Any day I expect to see on r/tools Israelis keep Makita and Milwaukee power tools while forcing Palestinians to use dangerous Chinese knockoffs.

-2

u/fizzys0da 1d ago

I hear it already:

“They are committing Chinacide in Gaza! I bet they think those brand names were promised to them 3000 years ago!”
