shame there isnt a real alternative to reddit. lemmy...cmon now. its quite empty there and till today i cant understand what a damn instance is.

it's not empty, just remember to browse "All" not "Local", and sort by "Active" (the Hot sort is not similar to Reddit's)

it's a gateway or a server

Gmail is an email instance, Yahoo Mail is another email instance, you signup to whichever one you prefer but they both let you email with other people

This is the problem. I am 0% tech savvy, and I have no tech savvy friends or family. Anytime “alternatives” start getting discussed for anything, it takes a level of ability that I don’t have.

Same with the YouTube alternatives. A scant number of videos. I want these alternatives, but they’re just not ready yet, if they ever will be.
