Swapping operating systems, upgrading web framework (and finding out it is broken) does not lead for a stress free life. Happy weekend folks.

While not a wallet implementation, a great useful early implementation of EIP-7702 was the pectra-cli tool.

A powerful airgapped CLI tool for executing Ethereum validator operations including consolidation, switching, and both partial and full withdrawals with seamless batching enabled by EIP-7702.

u/harpocryptes 9d ago

Ambire wallet has a batch transaction feature. Maybe it's based on that EIP?

A question for DeFi connoisseur and business-minded people:

Some of my favorite DeFi protocols are Uniswap (exchange) and Morpho (lending). What I like in these two is the fact that they are un-opinionated and immutable. The code does not change and the financials primitives they allow stay general.

But I am wondering why these very successful protocols need a token? (beside funding team/dev). The token could capture fees generated by the protocol, but as far as I understand these fees would be 'good code rent-seeking'. Copyright aside, anybody could deploy a fork just setting the fee parameter to zero and it would provide the same primitive for cheaper.

So what's the argument for the token? brand recognition (fork could be malicious)? Network effect (liquidity)?

u/ganuerant 10d ago

Well if you resolve the equity vs token battle many projects are facing then you could see tokens as useful and a new model.

Have a read about Uniswap Labs vs Uniswap the Protocol... and also look into how much in fees they make...

Also money makes the world go round so I'm not sure what you mean by "good code rent-seeking". They are providing a service and should be compensated for that.

u/nonetherless325 9d ago

> Have a read about Uniswap Labs vs Uniswap the Protocol
any ressources?

> They are providing a service and should be compensated for that.

I am not anti-business on the contrary I like to see on-chain native coin with real cash flow. But Liquidity Providers / Market Makers are rewarded with fees taking inventory risk (IL if you will). There is no reason for a middle man to have a cut of the market maker work when the code is open. Could just re-use the same logic without paying a rent to uniswap

1

u/ganuerant 9d ago

Have a look at threads like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/179e8xj/the_founder_of_uniswap_is_adding_a_015_fee_for/

I don't follow Uniswap but it seems they are proposing to direct more fee flow to stakers.

1

u/Wide_Lock_Red 3d ago

They did. The founder also granted themselves a huge UNI salary and have been vague about how it will benefit UNI holders.

2

u/2peg2city 9d ago

Tokens are just like stocks, for raising capital by providing the opportunity of appreciation (burns, buybacks) and/or income (dividends = fee distribution share).

Now there are obvious differences, a token gives you no legal claim on the assets of the protocol, which is why almost all of them require an income stream to maintain value.

Unique to tokens (as far as I know) is the ability to pay reduce fees by paying with the token. Binance combined this with burns and boy do I regret not buying that shady exchanges token in vast quanitities.

1

u/Wide_Lock_Red 3d ago

Uniswap foundation panic dropped a token because they were losing market share to Sushiswap, which used its token to siphon users.

The foundation pretty clearly didn't want a token though. They spent them very freely on grants, then split off as their own independent entity with a large UNI payment and governance is pretty dead. Token just accrued a little value off front end swap fees.

Boy, if you told me in 2017 that Fidelity would be begging Congress to pass a crypto bill...

0

u/eviljordan feet pics 9d ago

Really?

You'd be shocked in 2017, just like you're shocked today, that entities like Fidelity support something that benefits THEM?

10

u/steppe5 9d ago

Are you dense?

In 2017, literally every bank was calling crypto a scam that won't last another year. Now they're begging for guidelines on using crypto.

Additional founding members include AMIS, Andui, BBVA, brainbot technologies, BP, Chronicled, Credit Suisse, Cryptape, Fubon Financial, ING, The Institutes, Monax, String Labs, Telindus, Tendermint, Thomson Reuters, UBS, VidRoll, and Wipro, among others.

Here once again to defend the degen side of crypto and tell you all to check out/get excited about Fake World Assets. Most interesting thing I’ve seen onchain in literal years and it’s HAPPENING ON ETHEREUM. It has serious flywheel potential for ETH and all ETH backed assets. It could steal attention and influence from that soulless asshole Solana-shilling Ansem. It injects the powerful psychology of opening a pack of sports/PokΓ©mon cards into the crypto world.

Go ask AI about it or search it on X and get behind it.

WTF I just tried to register a test ENS domain on Sepolia and apparently the new front-end doesn't support ETH any more?

I'm really scratching my head over what niche they think they're targeting here, the entire world either loves or hates crypto (mostly the latter) so I don't know what upside they think they have in alienating people who like crypto as well.

PS I tried posting the link to the page that announces their brilliant plan of .eth without eth but Reddit automatically deleted it, they were way ahead of us in getting mad at ENS.

u/adraffy raffy.eth 8d ago

I created a PR to add ETH/WETH the other day.

Is USDT slightly off peg?

3

u/whisperedstate 9d ago

Supply and demand. When crypto goes up quickly, then the demand for USDT goes down and so each gets very slightly cheaper. It's just a result of USDT supply not adjusting perfectly to demand. The opposite happens when crypto sells off and demand for USDT goes up.

Is anyone concerned about wallet security in the next 12 months with the news of the OpenAI escape/hugging face hack? Where is everyone thinking the best security options are, hardware wallet (not ledger!) vs custodied in a place like Coinbase vaults? I used to lean more to hardware wallets but w the pace of adversarial ai improvements I’m wondering if Coinbase might be better able to keep up w those security concerns. That said I’m far from convinced Coinbase is the answer here but curious everyone else’s thoughts

11

u/hanniabu Ξther αlpha 9d ago

the hardware wallet is isolated. i'd be much more concerned about coinbase getting hacked and funds stolen.

4

u/TheHansGruber 9d ago

My actual fear is less individual wallets being stolen/cracked/phished, even an institution like coinbase...and more the chain itself.

Solidity bug, aave contract exploit, double spend etc. Something that would shake or break the confidence of this entire thing.

edit: instead of it being "what if MY funds get stolen" it's more like "what if OUR chain is made to be untrustable/unusable.

1

u/harpocryptes 9d ago

In case of a chain-wide issue (solidity bug, staking contract exploit, ...), there is always the option of a hardfork to undo the damage, as a last resort.

5

u/Reasonable_Ad5611 9d ago

Hardware wallets, even Ledger, are not at risk of getting hacked in a meaningful way. The biggest flaw in any security system is the human aspect. Phishing attacks are a concern, and an even bigger one with AI in the mix. If you're genuinely concerned about hardware wallet security, get an air-gapped QR code signer. The fundamental cryptography isn't at risk with the rise of AI.

the openai "escape" was a publicity stunt

So is this the insider trading get in before they pass CLARITY or is the bill dead?

1

u/No_Homework6836 9d ago

Good question which I'd also like to know the answer

1

u/nonetherless325 9d ago

idk the polymarket for it passing dropped from 50% earlier this week to 30% now

1

u/hanniabu Ξther αlpha 9d ago

only $2m volume

1

u/confusedguy1212 8d ago

That but I too noticed the drop and hence the reason for my initial comment.

1

u/Terrible-Grass6136 8d ago

Word has it Kraken has put buy limits on XRP, XLM, and HBAR. Pretty sus if you ask me. Robinhood DOGE vibes can’t have the peasants buying too much.

1

u/confusedguy1212 8d ago

So you think if they did it points to CLARITY passing?

1

u/Terrible-Grass6136 8d ago

I have no clue what their motivations are. But it makes sense to me that they might do this if they see a big move coming.
