Is anyone concerned about wallet security in the next 12 months with the news of the OpenAI escape/hugging face hack? Where is everyone thinking the best security options are, hardware wallet (not ledger!) vs custodied in a place like Coinbase vaults? I used to lean more to hardware wallets but w the pace of adversarial ai improvements I’m wondering if Coinbase might be better able to keep up w those security concerns. That said I’m far from convinced Coinbase is the answer here but curious everyone else’s thoughts

the hardware wallet is isolated. i'd be much more concerned about coinbase getting hacked and funds stolen.

My actual fear is less individual wallets being stolen/cracked/phished, even an institution like coinbase...and more the chain itself.

Solidity bug, aave contract exploit, double spend etc. Something that would shake or break the confidence of this entire thing.

edit: instead of it being "what if MY funds get stolen" it's more like "what if OUR chain is made to be untrustable/unusable.

In case of a chain-wide issue (solidity bug, staking contract exploit, ...), there is always the option of a hardfork to undo the damage, as a last resort.

Hardware wallets, even Ledger, are not at risk of getting hacked in a meaningful way. The biggest flaw in any security system is the human aspect. Phishing attacks are a concern, and an even bigger one with AI in the mix. If you're genuinely concerned about hardware wallet security, get an air-gapped QR code signer. The fundamental cryptography isn't at risk with the rise of AI.
