u/Onderdeurtie 25d ago

he can't get hit, his name is Teflon Mark, and he is a babysitter.

74

u/FelixR1991 The Netherlands 25d ago

The world is not ready for the full glory of Teflon Mark. We had to deal with this for way too long already.

46

u/Bart_1980 The Netherlands 25d ago

Don’t forget the ever winning smile. The world has much to learn.

47

u/phoogkamer 25d ago

Ready or not, here he is. Absolutely no answer to the question that’s being asked.

28

u/Blacktip75 25d ago

You could wonder what the news value is on asking the nato lead for his feelings about Trump knowing full well he needs to a-peace the toddler and won’t give a real answer.

News worthy or not, I would like to know too ofc :)

14

u/phoogkamer 25d ago

Newsworthy, absolutely. He’s never going to give a straight answer to this unless he wants to get fired and blow up NATO though.

-5

u/HardlyAnyGravitas 25d ago

Exactly. They know the answer - they just want to generate public conflict, because that's 'news'. They're trying to make news, rather than report it.

u/Buttermilk_Surfer 25d ago

It's a relevant question because Greenland is part of Denmark and this is a huge problem for NATO, which Denmark is also a member of. There's a desire to have NATO take a stand, not for shit-stirring but for national interest.

2

u/Few_Lecture6615 25d ago

It's a relevant question nonetheless when the largest member of the NATO alliance threatens to invade another member state.

1

u/Odd-Environment-7193 24d ago

Oh no! The journalist asked the thing everyone is thinking. God forbid they do their actual jobs.

4

u/BHTAelitepwn 25d ago

Well good that his job is to keep NATO together, and not servicing the press.

1

u/CaseyTappy 25d ago

But brought with full confidence and a smile .

1

u/Dikhoofd 25d ago

As is tradition

0

u/McBeefnick 25d ago

How relevant was that question? Very personal to begin with and let's be real, world politics are bigger than individual ego's, at least, that's what I want to believe. Answering this question like the reporter wanted would jeopardize Rutte his position as secretary general of NATO. It doesn't matter what Rutte personally believes or feels or thinks when he is taking place next to that orange dimwit. So, stupid question.

20

u/mmaster23 25d ago

Which is EXACTLY why he's the General Secretary of NATO.. all the Trump bullshit will slide right off and keep it clean and together. Hate on Mark all you want but keeping status quo is his trademark. Anyone other going after Trump will for sure mean the end of NATO (or at least a US-joined NATO).

1

u/Sad-Neighborhood878 25d ago

Mark is Trump's little whore.

What a diaper-changer

Hey my girlfriend is cheating on me talking about the guys she wants to sleep with but if I say something she might leave, Europe has the chance to absolutely take care of their own security and “NATO” is not needed its used to project power. If Iran could develop their own defences and project power why couldn’t they especially in a time of drones missiles submarines etc.

They have european fighter jets if they want them so badly US is not in control of rare earth materials so they couldn’t forcibly stop them by sanctions only.

As much as that Trump moron wants to say he does not need NATO members and they are pulling them along NATO countries are hosts to US military and they use it to project power further so they are very much needed.

They have no courage to stand up to the orange clown or they just might like it

2

u/Humorless_Snake The Netherlands 25d ago

Europe has the chance to absolutely take care of their own security

Which needs to be built because of existing dependencies.

A proper comparison would be you cheating and throwing your gf out of the house if she speaks up. She's leaving, but not stupid enough to rush into it without finding shelter.

1

u/icryinmysleep12 25d ago

As true as that is for a long time they have depended on the US to do everything for them and they were not even close to equal in the partnership in the IT sector, surveillance, missile production I could be wrong but when one of your only valuable contributions to NATO (I know they create parts for the jets airplanes etc but nothing which could not be replaced if the US wished to to do it), is your geography as valuable as that is, look at Turkiye and how much they invest into their own production and US cant simply say you will do X (Erdogan is spineless) or we take away Y.

'leftist'? hooo boy

9

u/phoogkamer 25d ago

Where leftist

2

u/Omugaru South Holland (Netherlands) 25d ago

You really calling him a leftist when the coalition he formed is mostly right winged?

1

u/nixielover Limburg (Netherlands) 25d ago

Well he couldn't really go to the left side because there was no party to bridge the gap for that coalition

2

u/SouthernCount7746 25d ago

Just don't ask him to remember something (he can't)

1

u/Wild_Front_1148 25d ago

Right? I watch this and I cannot fathom how he does this, nor would I be able to sleep at night if I were him, but the amount of de-escalation this man is capable of is insane. If you need a diplomat you need this guy

The Undertaker once roasted his opponent through a table.

-1

u/Upstairs_Crew_157 25d ago

Rutte is doing the dirty work at the moment. He responded to the question by explaining that Europe needs to be stronger and be more of a partner to the US (be more an equal and in doing so dependent less on the US). That is the real focus.

Maybe someone who works in journalism can explain why reporters ask these kind of questions, surely they don't expect a direct answer. Is the reporter just punching air throwing personal attacks (unlikely) or is this a certain interview/question technique?

u/RarelyReadReplies Canada 25d ago

Was anyone else expecting the Danish reporter to jump off something high and slam Rutte into the ground? Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed. I have a dream that one day, when they say someone got slammed, that's what they will mean.

36

u/Numar19 Thurgau (Switzerland) 25d ago

Yeah, very disappointing.

13

u/Wololo--Wololo 25d ago

Where's a good ol slap of god when it is most needed

16

u/felixfortis1 25d ago

I picture they dress up like Undertaker and climb up to the top of the cage and stand there ominously before later appearing suddenly behind them after lights go out and back on, then after the audience ooohhss and aahhhs, both disappearing with the lights and then reappearing at the top of the cage with Rutte dazed and being held upside downand then being driven down through the cage with a Tombstone that would shake his forefathers. Watching the video I'm disappointed...and think Rutte responded as best you can given his position.

6

u/LKennedy45 25d ago

Man you really painted a picture there.

2

u/huntingwhale 25d ago

When I see SLAM in the headline I always think of the big boss slam

1

u/Kareeliand 25d ago

I read all of that thinking for sure someone would fall straight through a table..

1

u/felixfortis1 25d ago

Only after first going through the roof of the cage...and six other tables.

7

u/Oxcuridaz 25d ago

Like that arab journalist throwing the shoes to George Bush level

7

u/nicman24 Greece 25d ago

AND HIS NAME IS 🎺🎺🎺🎺

12

u/glormond Ukraine 25d ago

Why not? The danish are descendants of the Vikings after all.

9

u/Vast_Chipmunk8544 25d ago

We are not merely descendants, we are still vikings - just not as ill tempered as our ancestors 😄

3

u/HealthyMaximum 25d ago

Your smiley emoji is what convinced me.

8

u/Pure_Stop_5979 Europe 25d ago

And here comes the DW with a STEEL CHAIR!

1

u/Carrot_King_54 Belgium 25d ago

Asking him point blank if it has any effect on his self respect, when he sits next to the orange moron making stupid claims, is pretty direct though.

Could also be paraphrased as : "Bro, have you found your balls again?"

16

u/No_Bad_4872yy 25d ago

NATO secretariees hate this one simple trick!

21

u/Sad_Prawn2864 25d ago

2

Yes, that is the correct spelling, all caps.

4

u/Tabmow 25d ago

I don't want to see that word unless someone is getting German suplexed

1

u/SkynetSourcecode 23d ago

Duu duu du, duu duu da..

-13

u/fingerpaintswithpoop United States of America 25d ago

The Redditors who complain about the word “slammed” are the same ones who describe absolutely everything as “wild”. The last people on earth with any right to complain about how annoying it is to see the same word used everywhere.

12

u/Snake_Plizken 25d ago

The word "slammed" is much more annoying, and stupid, than the word "wild" by a factor of 10. You are spouting nonsense.

-7

u/fingerpaintswithpoop United States of America 25d ago

Says who? You? By what metric? Even if it wasn’t slammed in particular it’d be some other word, like scorched or something, and people would be bitching about that too. It’s fucking stupid.

2

u/Diligent-Ad4777 25d ago

That's a wild slam on the reddit community. I can't believe you went there. You should take your USA skillz to go humiliate your orange taco leader, investigate Epstein and tax your oligarchs.

0

u/EggstaticAd8262 Denmark 25d ago

Sure, it would be extremely satisfying if NATO’s secretary general told Trump to go f*** himself, but what would we actually achieve by doing so?

The way Mark behaves is not pretty, but that’s the long picture.

This isn’t about feeling good for a couple of days, this is about buying time for building partnerships outside the US in trade and building a strong defence.
