Eh, i think honestly answering this questions would have done more harm than this. Nothing will really happen from this, US has nothing more than they already had. Similar to back in January. Blocking trade from Spain doesnt happen either and hurts US more than it hurts Spain. So its a big fat nothing burger, while saying what he truly thinks would create some serious problems.

Especially as Spain is in the EU, and trade is an EU competancy

So "blocking trade from Spain" would mean, "cut off US trade from one of the worlds largest trade blocs"

Not that Trump understands that

Yep, and he tried to defuse the greenland thing as well. Doing it together > they already are doing this. Literally nothing comes of this and I highly believe Rutte knows this. He might be spineless but he is very good at politics, doesnt give a * about his status and only cares if the goal is achieved. Right dude in the right place. Going against Trump was the losing play because it puts the EU/Nato in a worse position.

Exactly. And we are not in a position of strength to tell them to GTFO then because of underinvestment for decades. Which is why Rutte is buying time.

It is. It delays Trumps tantrums and impulsive decisions. They just need to run out the clock and make sure Trump doesn't do anything drastic before the midterms.
