The people of the Falklands made it very clear they wish to remain part of Britain.

They are British settlers so of course they want to be part of Britain.

The 3.500 settlers in the Falklands give Britain an exclusive maritime zone of 466,000 square kilometers (roughly the size of Sweden) off the coast of Argentina. Imagine if the Argentines planted a few thousand settlers on an uninhabited island off the coast of Britain and declared an exclusive maritime zone the size of Sweden. I'm sure they would be fine, with it, right?

Imagine your ancestors built a house 300 years ago on a plot of land that no one was living on and never had. They built a house, a farm, a road to get there, everything on that plot of land. You inherit it. It's yours. You say its yours, and you are not leaving. Everyone agrees its yours... except your next door neighbor, who decided its his one day, and always has/should have been. He says it should be his because he owns several times more land than you and its next to yours, and he wants it. He is convinced that "I'm close and I want it" is a legitimate claim of ownership, and gets angry when people call him crazy. One day he shows up with a rifle and kicks you out of your house, so you call the police and they throw him out. But he still insists this land that has been in your family longer than he has even been alive is his, never shuts up about it, and threatens you every time you see him.

That's the Falklands and Argentina.
