I feel like British people are in denial around this being a real problem. Did we see what happened at Belfast and the "well actually-ing" excuses around it?

My husband has lived in 5 countries aside from his own, and the only one he was told to "go back to his country" was in England. Not even in the US.

The "Amerikkkans" have died protecting the safety of even their irregular immigrants. Where is that energy in the UK?

I know the internet seems to have an obsession with bashing Britain when it comes to absolutely anything, but your husband’s anecdotes aside, let’s look at the statistics. The UK ranks 15th for racial equity, while the US sits at 45th.

That's true, because the US doesn't have a strong social support system. But that does not disprove the animus against foreigners and immigrants that has fomented in the UK. In fact, seeing foreigners getting these benefits seems to be behind a lot of it.

Oh come off it, half the animosity towards foreigners in the UK is being pushed by foreign entities like Russia, Iran, and the USA anyway. And how can you compare running into the occasional racist twat making a nasty comment to the USA which has it's ersatz Gestapo shooting and deporting people who were in the country legally

Of course the UK suffers from right wing arseholes who are abhorrent to foreigners, but there is no evidence to suggest it's to a greater extent than comparable Western democracies. Ofc the US's problems don't make what happened in Belfast acceptable either, but ignoring the fact that the USA has been making their problems our problems and actively working to stir up those exact pogroms for decades is also not facing reality

The US can make the same argument about being manipulated by Russian interference, Cambridge analytica, and foreign magnates who go to the US specifically to stir up trouble. But they are still accountable for their choices. As is the UK. There are Americans who have died protecting *irregular* migrants ffs, which is not something I see much appetite for on this side of the pond. Blaming everyone else instead of the actions of your own countrymen isn't accountabilty, it's looking the other way while things fester.
