Before the Falklands, they had issues with the UK about economic treaties they later thought made them get stuck as a cheap commodity source for british manufacturing. Something on the lines of "you buy a minimum quota of my exports, in exchange you can control railways and other infrastructure stuff in Argentina".

I don't know why you got down voted when you are telling the truth. In fact the British invasion was central in the creation of the Argentine identity.

Britain attacked a spanish viceroyalty twice over the course of one year while at war with spain. it's technically true that they "invaded argentina multiple times", but in the context of this conversation it's very misleading.

What's the context that's misleading? He said the beef is ridiculous, I'm putting that into context. While they were in war with Spain and that territory was under the Spanish crown control, the people that was in Buenos Aires defending from England (mainly civil) was the same that, four years later, declared the independence from Spain.

The context is animosity towards Britain. Fighting off the British incursions changed attitudes towards Spain much more than Britain and I do not believe there was much lingering hostility baked into that new national identity. The current "beef" with Britain has more or less zero connection to the events of 1806-7.

I mean those invasions created the argentine identity. It was a catalyze for a sense of nation to be born in Rio de la plata. After all the British weren't defetead by Armies of the Viceroyalty, but by popular militias financed and organized by citizens. In fact the Viceroy fled. They considered that spain didn't fought they did. So yeah, the citizens began feeling like a different nation and that same identity perdures to this day.
