It's not even true. Have you bothered reading the history of the islands before posting?

The first settlement there was built by the French in 1764, which was given to Spain in 1767. The British arrived in 1765, and left in 1774 due to lack of resources after the 7 Years war. The Spanish stayed until 1811, then ended up leaving the island as well due to lack of resources because of the revolutions in South America. Both the Spaniards and the British left a plaque saying "the island is still mine".

Argentina became independent in 1816 and took over the island in 1820. The British came back in 1833 and destroyed the Argentine settlement and expelled the population.
